Altador Cup Signups Have Started!

The anticipation for signups is now over! Head on over to the colosseum to choose your team for the 11th annual Altador Cup. Who will you join?

Each year I get more and more impressed at how high the cup number is. I'm kinda surprised it even happened this time around XD

 

But of course, whenever it's here the Lost Desert can count on me!

I joined Altador, as always, my favorite land and favorite team and I will always support them!

 

So, here is a rant from me; I wonder why JS made such rude comments about Altador! First "Why So Smug?" on the pre-sign up team info, then "Altador’s 12th place finish in AC X was one of its better performances, which says a lot about the team’s caliber." and "Are they content to be remembered as the hosts of the Cup? Sure seems like it.", just a few sentences from the info on the team sign up page. Okay, though they have obviously done well in the past, generally Altador tends to not be one of the more popular teams. This is a bit confusing to me, considering if it wasn't for Altador, we wouldn't have the Altador Cup. In any case, my point is if not many people join and play for a particular team, of course it's not gonna do as well. However, even if that is not a factor, or it was really the team itself deciding how to play, I still think it's unfair to just count them out or make those types of comments. JS at least could have said something like 'Are they content to be remembered as the hosts of the Cup? We shall see.' to acknowledge it is possible things could change, instead of just writing them off. I read the descriptions for all the teams and I don't think any were as harsh as the one for Altador, even for the teams that didn't do as well last year.

 

By the way, I don't think there's anything wrong with being content to be the hosts of the cup, maybe they just have fun participating, it's still an unfair comment.

 

Pardon me, I'm just really loyal to Altador and will always defend them.

I joined Shenkuu, a loyal Shenkuuvian for 5 years on this account but 8 years total since 2009 (I joined Neo in August 2008 so I was too late for that year's Cup)

 

with TNT doing little to nothing to combat the cheaters, I couldn't care less which team wins. Besides the trophy, you don't any special treatment or more Prize Shop points for being on a winning team so it doesn't matter but personal efforts for individual achievements.

So I've briefly played the Altador cups the last couple of years, I usually miss it 0.0 I just really love Slushie Slinger

 

So how does it work? Is it random who wins or is it based off of ever players score, do our points contribute toward the win? 

 

Is there some type of prize/better trophy awarded for playing everyday? Are there ever challenges to beat?

 

Do you only get a gold trophy if your team wins? And is there a list of requirements for each level of trophy on TDN?

 

Sorry for all questions, this is probably the only yearly event I haven't participated in entirely.

I'll be joining my favorite team Virtupets! I joined their team the year after they got first place, not knowing they won the year before and got 2nd. I really hope they work on the cheating this year since Kiko Lake had an unfair advantage due to bots( or "magical" steroids as they are saying).

 

@Musical_Shoryu I'll answer your questions to the best of my knowledge as a veteran AC player

It's based off every players score combined. Yes our points contribute toward the win.

No. You get a better trophy the more you rank up which you do by playing the games often(more than 3 times) every day. Challenges? Not really. You should try to keep playing to get high scores on the games so your team wins the match-ups.

 

Do you only get a gold trophy if your team wins? And is there a list of requirements for each level of trophy on TDN?

You can get a gold trophy if your team wins or if your rank reaches gold status. As for the requirements I'm not sure but you can search TDN.

Is it awful that I hate this event? You need to put so much effort in, to even get the level just above participation. Especially for those of us who are terrible at Yooyuball...not excited :(

 

EDIT: I just went and had a look at the FAQ, and saw this:

 

"This year, we've made some changes to the values needed to reach each rank. Now, moving past your Beginner status is more attainable than ever, but reaching All Star will still be quite the impressive feat! Be sure to keep an eye on the Rank Calculator to see what's next!"

 

I assume that by "this year", they mean 2016. Slightly more excited now :)

I joined Krawk Island, I just liked their logo.  In previous years, on my old account, I backed virtupets, but that was a different lifetime, so hopefully I will have a great team and win it all!  :)

As far as I know (but my knowledge of the Altador Cup is fairly limited), the colour of your trophy depends on the rank you reach. The winning team gets a slightly bigger/different trophy, but it mainly reflects your own rank. (No idea if it'll work that way this year though.)

 

And I think the colour of the shield (of the rank) you reach will be the colour of your trophy. But someone please correct me if I wrong. :)
