What is the meaning behind your pet's names? I recently got really good at naming pets. My Wocky's name is Maingo as in the fruit Mango. Then my Gnorbu, Dizoo, is named after a pet I used to have who had x's in her name. When I saw that just plain Dizoo was avaliable I named her that. Dizoo is also a combination of my favorite words Dizzy and Zoo.

I'm a huge DBZ fan and named my Lupe, Saeyen. I figured Saiyan was already taken so I spelled it Saeyen to make it more feminine for a female pet.

My mynci is named Kalis_Minky because my daughters name is Kali and she LOVES monkeys. But I have called them (monkeys) minkys since I was little. And MojoThe2nd is made up of Mojo which is the name of our future puppy (it's going to be a goldador) which is why "The2nd" follows it. Also my mynci already has a petpet named Mojo :)

The pets that I named when I was 10 don't really have much meaning, especially because of the string of numbers at the end.. My Lupe I named Rufus, because I had always wanted a dog named Rufus.

On my side account, I have Atana_Paws. Atana is a name that I've used and loved for several characters, and it seemed fitting for a pet that I want to turn into my dreamie.

All but two of my pets are adopted, but I would love to know the meaning their original creators had in mind.

The two that I created myself don't have any specific meaning, I just like the name.

My Shoyru Umfrey and my Poogle Victurm were both adopted from the pound.

My Jubjub is named "yellowfluffstuffz" because he was a yellow jubjub and looked fluffy, he's currently gold and I'm not gonna paint him any other color because then he wont look yellow :P.

I also have a Usul named Justinaa on a side account named after me :)

Of my current pets, Blooglet, Liophena, Blueponk and Stormfinch are the non-adopted ones. Neither of the names have much meaning, I love thinking up names, simply. The rest of my pets were adopted :)

My pets were all named back when I used to role play, and they were related to the characters. Actually, Karinth was named after my (then) best friend's character's pet in the guild. My friend was with me when I created the account, and I couldn't decide what to name my pet, and my friend suggested Karinth, so I went with it. Then, after I had been in the guild for awhile, my character ended up with two Neopets named Lidith and Mina, and thus my other two pets were born.

Unfortunately, none of them are well-named because I didn't realize the importance of well-naming, so they all have numbers and/or underscores, but it doesn't bother me much. Mostly I ignore them (the offending characters, not the pets :P).

I'll probably only discuss a few as I have so many, but here it goes: My oldest pets, on my main, have pretty random names that don't mean anything really. Only one has a string of numbers at the end of her name, another's name is sandwiched between underscores. Shuhune's name was something that came from a random name generator when I created her at age 12. I pronounce her name as if it were Japanese sounding (and have given her a last name, rounding her character more.) The Japanese word "fune" means "boat", and the latter half of her name is similar.

My Acara was named "Blossom Babe" after seeing these "Bubbles Babe" and "Buttercup Babe" personas on a popular Powerpuff Girl forum and fan-art site (now gone) called RowdyRuff.Net. Because there was no Blossom Babe, I named my Acara that (I was, again, 12 at the time). Like Shuhune, I eventually also gave Blossom a last name, Thornwell, which I thought was a fitting name for a lovely Neovian lady.

Azarale is taken from the flower name "Azalea", but I felt that sounded too feminine for a 9-year-old street urchin boy. So I changed it up a little.

Mermallie is of course taken from the word "mermaid". As a matter of fact, she is even depicted as a mermaid.

Eckert was the name of a computer scientist, as well as a character at the Disney California Adventure ElecTRONica attraction (the main host, in fact). I was surprised nobody took the name Eckert yet, so I took it for my (sort of white) Xweetok. His customisation is even a bit of a nod to the Tron films, and it is a fitting name as he is a character with computer powers.

And Rapira is the name of a computer program, or a computer science term. (Noticing a naming pattern with my Virtupets-themed characters? XD)

Hikaru's full name is Hikaru Isanichi, or, as you'd say it in Japan, Isanichi Hikaru. It means "Under sunlight" in Japanese.

Illhaze's name is partly taken from Illusen's, as well as the word "hazel", even though it's pronounced "ill-ha-zay".

PART 2:

So...I felt the need to add more and I did not want to make a new post so, here it is. Look closely at this post and you'll find the edit XD

Terraluna is Latin, I wanted her name to begin with Terra but had no idea what I would end it with, but I wanted the name to make sense in an English translation, so I wanted another Latin word. I found Terraluna wasn't taken, so, that is her name, it means "Earth Moon".

Shiroumaru means "White Circle" in Japanese.

Daisuke has been a character I've had years before I created him on Neopets. (In fact he was only added just the last Hissi day!) His full name is Daisuke Kamoshita, but of course I couldn't use that full last name so I had to take the "ta" syllable out. But, first and last name, he is there, as "Daisuke Kamoshi"

Seth is another with a first and last name. Seth, or Set, is the name of an Egyptian god, and since Seth is from the Lost Desert, I thought it would be a nice fit. I gave him the last name of Amari to add to his name, I was looking for an Arabic last name for him and Amari stood out to me,

Oh boy, then there is KP. He probably has the most embarrasing name, in my opinion: Kristal_x_Pheonix. First of all, I didn't realize phoenix was spelled P-H-O-E-N-I-X, I thought the E came before the O. Also, the "Kristal" part of his name sounds girly, so I just say his name is Kris Phoenix. Then there is the horrible spacing....if I know how to correctly spell phoenix the _x_ could probably have been avoided. (The story behind that involves doing something I really regret: abandoning a Kacheek with a similar name because I wanted a Kougra instead when I should have just morphed him. *facepalm* Regret regret regret.) But oh well, I just call him KP.

Now onto my adopted pets:

Kiinneey; I really have no idea, but I just call him "Kii".

Adeinle: Not sure what it means, but I think it's very pretty. :) I have chosen to pronounce her name as "A-dien-lee", as if it were Greek.

Lighlet: I rather like that name, I pronounce it as if it were French, "lie-lay". His name looks like the word "light", to me, so I gave his name its own meaning. X3

I actually only created two of my pets - Ibililly is a portmanteau of Ibis and Lilly, which are just two names I like and Valitatko is a Finnish verb meaning "to care for", which is basically the foundation for his character.

My pet's name, Kaibajouryuuki, I found on a site that had Japanese names for mythical creatures. The peophin species remind me of the mythical Hippocampus. Like a giant seahorse. So according to that site, Kaibajouryuuki is Japanese for the mythical hippocampus.

Not sure if that site still exists after all these years. But it was pretty cool to find that. :)

Neat topic idea. :)

My Usul's name Usiima is just a cute little name I came up with. My Xweetok Morygyan's name is inspired by Morggian from Darkstalkers. I have two pets from the pound so I didn't name them.

the pets i created

darkobsession , darkinvention , darkphilosophy , darkintuition .. well they are self explanatory .. i was just trying to make up combined names

edwardhyde is the name of the other half of dr jekyll in the famous story

arnoobie means "my bunny" in arabic and it's a cute name in english for a cybunny all the same

alsou is a real russian girl name

16B is my favorite dj's name

coatofarms is coat of arms

peophus - i created him to go with peopha (i love latin suffixes that go together like Augustus and Augusta)

the pets i adopted

faras means "mare" in arabic , i found her newly created as a red lenny on a random girl's account , i mailed her that fact and that she'd better be a uni or a peophin , so she sent me the pet :D i morphed her into a christmas uni ... then into a desert peophin

gazookesasmile - i have no freaaaaaking idea

drastan - again i have no idea but its a nice name

randomsilliness - i was looking for the name just out of curiosity and i found that the pet was in the pound so i adopted him (he was a yellow yurble to start with)

Nice thread idea! This is a great way to know more about each other's pets :D

Let's see... my pets from way back were well, not well named xD

I just mashed all the words I like together so they either look strange or are un-prounceable haha Some of my newer creations:

Incendies came about after I fell in love with a similarly named movie. It means fire in French :)

There is no specific meaning to Cybrielle. It just appeared in my mind when I was trying to name a few characters for my own roleplay & I like the way it sounds & how it can be shortened to Cy.

Subsist, I found in the pound. It's an English RW meaning 1) to exist or 2) to maintain life esp at minimal level. I intend to just zap & release but the word is slowly growing on me & may end up keeping him.

Sidus is Latin, meaning (surprise) star. A star for a star lover c:

Harpuiyas - Harpuia is a boss from megaman zero who looked bomb and could fly around..and my main was originally an eyrie so I just thought it would fit :D

My pets were adopted. I don't think that their names have any meaning- they just look pretty cool, and are pronouncable. :)

Most of my current pets don't have an actual meaning (except trying to have something that sound nice), but just two do that I hope to eventually make characters:

  • Hypnagogia: "experience of the transitional states to and from sleep", sometimes called "waking sleep". It's a term I learned from a book I read last summer. I mostly associate that term when I have those sudden moments of waking up just as I am falling asleep (which often happens when I am very tired, due to lack of sleep).
  • Holeum: It's a term coined for a theory for particles that are made of mini black holes. I'm not quite sure about the whole theory, but I liked how it sounded.

My pets names don't have much meaning. I adopted Xaudea because well, she's beautiful and also because her name is similiar to mine. (Xaudea - Xandria) So after I saw she was UFT I knew I just had to have her. :)

I have a pet on my side account named Rhvenge who is named after a character in my all time favorite book. (Lover Avenged - Black Dagger Brotherhood)

I also just think it sounds really cool. xD

Then there's Valenshia on my side account which will eventually be on my main after I save up enough neopoints to paint her plushie. Her name has no real meaning, just thought it sounded nice.

I found a pet at the pound named Hodden and I fell in love with that name for some reason. He's also on my side because I don't know what to do with him just yet. xD

Emtz and Deitzi are on my main, both adopted... so have no meaning.

Not really sure what all my adopted pets mean for names but here are my created ones:

Beauty9004 - I honestly named her after the main female character from the anime Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo xD (she was my first neopet)

Faith9004 - I always liked the name Faith

Ivana9004 - tribute to my boyfriend but added an "a" at the end

Heaven9004 - I knew she would be a Christmas Zafara so it seemed appropriate

Repatica - means Comet in Croatian

Atzicitlali - took the words Atzi (rain in Aztec) and combined it with Citlali (star in Aztec) to make Rainstar ^^

Uvertira - means Overture in Croatian

Kialaza - I honestly just put words together until I saw it wasn't taken haha!

Gavric - a real last name from someone I know (pronounced Gav-rich)

I_Love_Ivan - this...should be easy to figure out xP (made her on our anniversary)

Technobirdy - I love techno music and my favorite animal are birds

Posted

Bhutani is the name of my grundo and I didn't think too hard about it when I named him that. It was just a word that flew into my mind. I guess I had been reading about Bhutan or something around that time :P According to wikipedia, it can refer to people from Bhutan, Pakistan and India.

Lille_Bitte I would translate to "itsy bitsy" - meaning very small.

Numse is a a polite word for "butt", which amuses me to no end :P

And that's all the pets I have with names that mean anything.

Posted

IbisMay - Ibis means bird in latin and May is just May :)

She's the only pet I created. Others I adopted:

Perfid - (perfidity) means betrayal of trust, treachery

Neridah - variation of a name Nereida (which is greek)

I actually love those names. Adopted Neridah just recently from the pound :)

My Kau's name is Peachamina. It's a silly name, but it was inspired by Princess Peach.

I enjoy making up names that I think sound pretty, so that's pretty much the story of most of my pets. My main pet is adopted, so I can't say much for her name to begin with xD My first created pet is a slight variation of my very first neopets account name I had back in elementary school (purged a while back.) THAT name was based on fairies, since I was such a girly-girl at heart, and had my birthday month and day numbers acked onto the end. The only other pets that I really deliberately named are a royal pair that I painted; I wanted their names to match, and I like mythical stories, so they each start with "Myth." Then, I love landscapes, so I tacked "sea" for the girl and "sun" for the boy onto the end of "myth" (with a few letters in-between.)

Elivnoe (Stripped Draik soon to be White) Is an Anagram for "Evil One" I thought it was nifty doesn't reflect her Customization right this second though *lol* I am working on that!

Alexyus (Eventide Hissi) Was simply a name I made. Misspelling of Alexis.

Telea (Water Draik) I also made up and I thought sounded a little like Teal which is kind of the color she is. Also fitting
