1: Will this be your first AC? If not, how many ACs will this make for you?
I've done them all. I think that makes it my eighth.
2: Are you joining the same team as you did last year? If not, where will you go?
Yup. Roo Island ftw as always.
3: What are you most looking forward to this year?
The mind-numbing boredom of playing the same game hundreds of times.
4: Who do you think has the best chance of winning?
    I have no idea.
5: What rival team are you most looking forward to playing against?
    I'm not.
6: Any AC goals? What are they?
I'd like lots of goals. That's the way you win :D
7: A change you're hoping they made to the event?
    Change the games!

1: Will this be your first AC? If not, how many ACs will this make for you? I've participated in all of them. So this is my... 8th.
2: Are you joining the same team as you did last year? If not, where will you go? Yes, I'm joining Roo Island again -- have been a Rooligan since Year 3 (except Year 5, for some odd reason, when I joined Shenkuu.... oh, because up to that point, the second place team had gone on to win the following Cup, but that broke down the year I tried to play the system to get on the winning team, so I decided to stick with the team I liked).
3: What are you most looking forward to this year? Nothing. I loath the AC.
4: Who do you think has the best chance of winning? Roo Island! :D
5: What rival team are you most looking forward to playing against? I don't care.
6: Any AC goals? What are they? I don't know. Play at least 5 YYB, 30 SS, and 60 MSN and 60 SoSd a day. Theoretically. More likely, send at least 3 scores in each game per day. My highest rank ever was 11. Last year's was 8.
7: A change you're hoping they made to the event? Require that we play less to rank up. Make the side games count more. Have a more reasonable cap. Add some puzzle games instead of just carpal-tunnel-inducing games. Or some other way to participate. Oh! They could bring back those achievements they did that one year... that actually made me work harder, and made it a lot more fun! I was so sad they got rid of them after 1 year.
8: Something you're dreading? All of it.

Finn the Human reacted to Lamppost in Battledome: Explain Like I'm Five
Your plot participation will depend on the strength of the enemies. With your pet, you might not be able to beat all of the enemies, but you'll definitely be able to do some of them. If you want a better chance, I suggest increasing your stats, especially HP. Also, you can try to work to the next strength and defense boosts at 35, and then keep pushing to get to the next boost. (If you don't understand boosts, you can read the Battlepedia guide at http://battlepedia.thedailyneopets.com/index.php/articles/viewarticle/battle-strength-defense-boosts/.)

I'm glad to hear you're using the TDN guide for weapons! You have some good ones. Recommended weapons will probably depend on your strategy, though, so I'm going to answer that question first.

Strategy is very much personal preference, and often depends on your pet. My strategy tends to be something like this:
    Turn 1: Constant + Freezer
Turn 2: Constant + Bomb or 2 Constants
    Turn 3: Constant + Healer
Turn 4: Constant + Shield (repeat until done)

When I was just starting out, I used a similar strategy, except I used a dual-duty instead of a constant, so it looked more like this:
    Turn 1: Dual-Duty + Freezer
Turn 2: Constant + Bomb or 2 Constants
    Turn 3: Dual-Duty + Healer
    Turn 4: 2 Dual-Duties (repeat until done)

You could also use a shield on the first turn instead of the constant if you want to conserve your HP, which you probably do. There are certainly other strategies, such as using reflectors or stealing, or just using two constants to try to out-power your opponent. If you want to see another step-by-step guide, check out the Snow Beast guide on the Battlepedia. I like my strategy because I love attacking when my opponent is frozen. There's nothing more satisfying than doing a ton of damage and having none done to you.

My suggestion is to get into the Battledome, try different weapons in different orders, and see what you like best.

For your weapons, you have 2 dual duties and 3 constants, and they're all good ones. However, because of your low HP, I think you should invest in a few more shields. In addition to Leaf Shield, Parasol of Unfortunate Demise is a good one because it blocks full light icons and it defends with your opponent's defense boost instead of your own. I also really like Shiny Shoal Shell Shield for beginners like yourself because it defends a lot of different, common icons. Another good one is Virtupets X-514 Super Shield because it defends 5 of the 7 icons, though it doesn't defend as much of them as the SSSS.

I can see Dark Nova being a great weapon for you because of the healing, especially since it has the potential for full heal. It's one I've never used myself, so I don't know much about it, but if you used it in my strategy, you could essentially combine the healing and bombing turns. If you're interested in pure, multi-use healers, Lesser Healing Scroll would be good for you for awhile, and Bronze Scorchstone too because it's almost a full heal, but also overheals. They would be good upgrades for your Magical Healing Potion.

If you're looking for freezers, I recommend Scroll of Freezing or Randomly Firing Freeze Ray. They might be pricey, but they're worth it if you're planning to use freezing as a main strategy, since you'll use them until you're ready for a 100% freezer like H4000 Helmet.

For bombs, Jar of Meepit Eyes is one of the best, especially for its icons-to-price ratio. If you want something a little more expensive and with a little more power, Swift Darkfire Negg Bomb is a favorite of mine, especially since it won't inflate much since it's buyable in the Neggery. Other options are any 15-icon muffins like Shooting Star Muffin, Brain Muffin, or Radioactive Muffin.

For other upgrades, just keep following the TDN guide. You can mix and match between sets, so just take a look at the different weapons and decide what's best for you. Staffers have also recommended upgrades for some weapons in the reviews on their pages, so you could also look at the weapons you already have to see the recommended upgrades.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask about anything more!

Finn the Human reacted to Emily in Jury duty
I got a letter for jury duty a few months ago. I actually want to do it, as I'm fascinated by criminology and psychoanalytic theory, but I'm a full-time student, so they usually don't call us.

I think it's a good way of ensuring the trial is as fair as possible, being judged by a jury of your randomly selected peers. However, for many people, it's kind of a pain. I'm not sure how it works in other places, but in Ontario, if you need to travel or miss extended periods of work due to the trial, you're only reimbursed a fraction of your costs/missed wages (I think it's 60%, or something). So for someone living paycheck to paycheck, or someone who can't afford to miss work for an extended period of time, this could be a huge problem.

As far as benefits for the court, there's the aforementioned "fair trial" aspect. In a perverse way, I think it also alleviates the court system of a little responsibility as well. If the jury reaches a controversial verdict, the court system gets to deflect at least some of the blame for what may be considered an unfair sentence or verdict.

Though I do think it's more beneficial in terms of a fair trial, the way it's set up doesn't exactly inspire people to want to do it, if even for the aspect of having to miss work, potentially travelling in bad weather, disrupting personal plans/events, etc. If people were given more choice (like you got to select days/times of the year that would be more convenient for you) or there was better compensation, I think a lot less people would resent being called to do it.

Your stats are really good. For one, stop training movement because you have access to the Heavy Robe of Thievery now :) Train up to a 250 boost for both your attack and defense.

You already have a Leaf Shield and a Hanso Charisma Charm which is pretty nice. I agree with Finn on the suggestion of a Downsize! as it will serve you for a very long time until you can afford the ever-expensive Thyoras Tear.

For constants, I also agree with Finn that you could get a Scroll of Knowledge x2. I also suggest you get a Rusty Pitchfork (11 icons attack, 5 physical icons defend) and I agree with coltom as well with the suggestion of Altadorian Swordbreaker. Finn pretty much covered most of what I wanted to suggest for shields as well.

I don't suggest Honey Potion, however. I don't find it's power-to-price ratio alright. I'd rather suggest Swift Darkfire Negg or the 15-icon muffins because, although they're one use, they're a lot cheaper. You can get Robot Muffin for around 500 nps or less (or even for free through the BD). If you're looking to buy a (near) 13-iconer then go for an Ylanas Blaster, Altador Throwing Star, or Bow of Destiny.

Your healer is definitely the trickier one. I'd suggest you get a Greater Healing Scroll as well (as it is the only one that fits your budget). But for long-term use, I definitely suggest you check out Everlasting Crystal Apple and Crisp Blue Tunic as I think you'll find them interesting.

Finn the Human reacted to ~Xandria in Weight loss support thread!
Alright. So I've been overweight pretty much my entire life. Partially from genetics and also from my mother never putting any emphasis on healthing eating or exercise. I've always been self consious and have alway wanted to lose weight. I've also been clinically depressed since I was 13, which is when I started packing on the pounds. Not because I was eating so much, but because of my lack of drive to do anything. There are also a few studies that state stress = weight gain. I have a huge host of anxiety disorders that are probably contributing factors.

Anywho. I was recently put on a new anti-depressant which is helping me out tons! It took awhile to kick in, but now that it has I feel better about life and less anxious day by day. Which is definitley a good thing. At my largest, I weighed 165lbs and I'm 5'1. When I went to the doctor last, I found out I've actually lost 5lbs in two weeks! So now I weigh 160. This is really great news for me because usually I absolutley dread going to the doctor and having to look at the number on the scale.

So this has been enough motivation for me to lose all those unwanted pounds, feel better about myself, get in shape, and be healthy! I'm cutting out fast food and soda completely. I'm allowing myself one cheat day, so as not to be deprived. I'm not going to call this a "diet" because I'm done with that. For me, this is going to be a complete lifestyle change. I want to be more active and I want to not only feel good about myself, but be healthy on the inside.

So I started this thread in case anyone else would like to embark on this journey with me. You don't have to make any drastic changes at first. In fact, it's better to start small. In my case, I started off by drinking 8 bottles of water a day. Which isn't difficult for me, because I quite like water. I added in some welches 100% white grape juice which I now drink with breakfast every morning. It has some great health benefits (including weight loss!) I'm also walking at least 30mins everyday. Some days I'll power walk and somedays I'll just stroll, but either way... it's something.

So, would you like to lose weight, have more energy and feel better about yourself? If so, please share your stories about your weight loss struggles and I'll be here to support you in anyway I can. :) If you've lost weight in the past, don't hesistate to share your motivational stories.

If you'd like you can also share something like this: (if you're comfortable of course!)

    Current weight: 160
    Height: 5'1
    Goal weight: 125
What lifestyle changes will you make to lose the weight: Drink 8 glasses of water a day, exercise at least 3x's a week, make better eating choices and use low fat subsitutes when possible, completely stop drinking soda, never starve or deprive myself, eat only when hungry, use portion control, read motivational success stories, eat smaller healthy snacks more frequently.

Finn the Human reacted to Emily in Youth Adult Cancer Canada: Shave for the Brave!
    Hi guys!

This month, the national organization Youth Adult Cancer Canada is running an event called "Shave for the Brave." The participants, young adults from across the country, are raising money to support social programs in Canada for people and their families who have been diagnosed with cancer. On February 28th, in celebration and solidarity, all fundraising participants will be shaving their heads and donating all qualifying hair to the production of wigs and hair pieces for those who have lost their own due to cancer treatment.

I strongly encourage anyone who can spare a few dollars to donate to a great cause. Every penny helps. A good friend of mine is participating in the program this year and her donation page can be found here. For more information about the program and how to get involved, check out http://www.shaveforthebrave.ca.
