JumpStart Survey Is Here!

If you read this weeks Editorial, you saw that TNT planned on releasing a survey regarding the transition to JumpStart. It's now released so go ahead and let the team know what you like, don't like, and what you want to see in the future on Neopets!

JumpStart bought Neopets about a week ago, so Nickelodeon is no longer in charge of Neopets. They have no plans to "kiddify" the site, so no need to worry! There's a separate forum called "Ready, Set, JumpStart!" on the TDN forums that you can check out if you have any more questions:)

In case you're wondering why I rated socialization so low, it's because Neopets has such restrictive filters. Since I'm saying this in complete anonymity, I don't mind confessing that I prefer to skirt the "no sharing of social media contact information rule" if I like someone well enough, so that we can talk freely on Facebook. I stay away from the neoboards (unless absolutely necessary) because I hate the system and guilds are full of drama.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who looks for other avenues of communication. (Sadly, I never think of directing people here...)

I think what I dislike so much about the neoboards is the way they're setup--especially the auto-scroll to the bottom so we can't see if someone has replied. It might be too hard for them to implement the popular BB-board format, but even if they could do something similar, it would be much appreciated.

I had so many problems with guilds last year that I'm just done with them. Permanently. (Even though I did like the idea of guild tournaments.)

That being said, I'm thankful for small events like this thing with the watertower; because otherwise, I'm living for the big three (Daily Dare, Altador Cup and Gamesmaster Challenge) and there's not much reason to be here in between.

I acknowledge the fact that the SFEC was poorly run (those flowers! That maze! Mother Goddess!), but I also have to admit that I'd rather have a poorly run plot/event/plvent than nothing at all. Every time I've thought about taking a hiatus in the last three to six months, I've always been tempted to say, "Let me know when (the next big three event) starts!"

I look forward to drastic changes with JumpStart's input. I'm not entirely sure the past issues were all Viacom's fault (sorry guys), but I'm sure JS will create a new and better site that we'll all appreciate.

Maybe it's naive to hope for big changes...but what's the point of living if no one leaves us anything to hope for?

What is this "Saskia's Masks", they speak of in the survey? o.O

They did it in 2012 (I think) as a Halloween sort of thing. I believe you followed clues around Neopia while wearing one of the masks from her collection and when you got back, you (probably) got a prize and (definitely) got to keep the mask. At the end, there was something to do with all five masks together...and you got to keep that final mask, too.

How would you rate the Customer Service on Neopets?

The survey took me about an hour. They better have been serious about it being okay to include a novel for the essay portion, since that's about what they got. So many things!

 

1/ Fix the broken content before putting out new content! (There have been players waiting for years for things to be fixed and it never happens - it makes NeoPets look unreliable as a site.)

2/ Fix the Battledome (I suggested making it more in keeping with an RPG so that your pet levels as they fight - it's more realistic and encouraging).

3/ Allow for people to change their Usernames/Pet names once a year (I suggested February when things have calmed down after Christmas - they could call it the Celebration of Second Chances).

4/ Delete unused accounts that are over 2 years old. (This will free up server space and NeoPets in general.)

5/ Fix the way that they handle the Forums. (Especially the Battledome Forum, which is particularly nasty. Also, don't penalize both the offender AND the victim. That's just wrong.)

6/ Do something about accessiblity issues, including font and game content sizes. (Not everyone has perfect eyesight, and that includes young and old. Slow down the shops a bit for people with disabilities to at least have a chance to get something without being forced into the marketplace or trading post.)

7/ Allow for revisiting of old plots for those who can't be on NeoPets every single day for 8 hours a day. (Some of us have lives outside of Neopia. Strange, but true. *lol*)

8/ Lower the price of a subscription to something sane. (Over $100 is crazy. I'd pay no more than $40 a year and it had better have a lot more for my money than it currently does.)

 

There was more, but I just can't remember it all. I really hope that they'll at least consider some of it before tossing it in the garbage. Some of it actually makes some sense. (Doesn't it?)

I gave them a 2 since 1 means they don't have customer service. I believe they have a teeny bit of it. XD

 

5. What would you like to see more of on Neopets? If you could add anything, what would it be?

 

Key Quest: Have KQ glitches fixed, receiving a gold key when opposing player quits near the exit, optimize KQ for slower computers

Habitarium: Reduce NP rewards (let's not waste electricity leaving the computer on to get 100k NP a day from Habi!)

Content: More plots, with a mix of puzzles and battling (and less of the repetitive things like the hundred floored catacombs).

Altador Cup: Put back minimum score of 600 for Shootout Showdown, more transparency on how scores are computed, change format to SRR + Finals/DRR + Finals, set up captcha every few AC games to curb Score Sending, improve surveillance against Score Senders and Array of Bytes users.

Ticket System: Hire more support staff to speed up handling of tickets, improve customer service.

Account security: Investigate thoroughly to prevent unfair freezings, freeze accounts that are using Score Senders/Auto Restockers, and the like. (maybe disallow proxies)

Restocking: Increase the frequency of restock of rare items, retire many junk items that are clogging shops, increase maximum items in shops from 24 to 30.

Battledome: Fix all glitches to make 2P battling competitive and feasible (check petpage: http://www.neopets.com/~aequorei#main), change 1P prize drop rates to favor more difficult challengers with more valuable prize drops. Increase strength and defense boosts continually to encourage training). Retire many junk battledome items (most weapons w/ attack of 6 icons or less or less than 8 icons defense). Release new weapons that are suitable for current use (at least 9 icons, maybe bridge the gap between Sophies Magic Hat and HT shields). HP increase for 1P should coexist with the 3 difficulties right now. Bring back skirmish mode. Balance the power of abilities effectively (have the strongest, say lens flare at level 500 and make it a hard decision to choose between the 3 abilities in each tier) and tone down the power of abilities so that weapons will have the major role. Bring back species resistances AND stances.

Staff: Interact with users frequently (Neoboards, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). More transparency in how things work.

Neopian Economy: Release more NP sinks to help curb inflation.

Stamps: Release r99 stamps more often or just put them in HT for a expensive price.

Filters: Seriously, don't try to block skill because of kill. And "a SSW" because of (you know). (I think they got the point here)

I do think this is a major step forward for Neopets. I hpe that they will follow through with the changes that were asked for by the players.

 

P.S. Last question got me thinking. I yielded to the 3rd Meepit though I think I would come to regret it. lol

In the second box about anything else to say, I said I was working for TDN since 2007 and would love if they gave fansites more sneak peaks. ;)

 

Plots, Plots, Plots! (I had to say to start!)

With interesting stories, challenging puzzles and battle steps. Something in the vein of Lost Desert plot, Curse of Maraqua, Tale of the Woe or even The Faeries Ruins. All were awesome.

 

Hire good game designers and create or re-create games for the games room. Many genres have been explored by TNT in the past, from simulation, platformer, action, rpg... I think that in this day and age, it would be possible to create even more beautiful, engaging and fun games than before. HTML5, Unity3D... (Flash can burn in fire.)

 

Whenever you start something, finish it! Battledome 2.0 has been in that beta state for over a year. Everybody wants to see HP being increased for challengers. Neohome 2.0 is still very glitchy and it would be fun to have more control over what you can do inside. For instance, I always wanted to be able to put walls rather than using items as division. Habitarium needs some work too. Aren't you ever going to release anything beyond level 50? I find it highly disappointing.

 

I would like to see your mobile app released too. Make it appealing to people who aren't part of Neopia yet. Make mini-games (time waster) that awards item codes that can be redeemed on Neopets to attract more traffic. A little bit like those code we received when we played Treasure Keepers. Speaking of that, if you can buy back the license to that game, it was half decent for a social game.

 

Also I was highly disappointed when I read after painting my Wocky Maraquan that previous wearable for that color would never fit on it. It's sad since Maraquan don't get a lot of clothing to start with. I wouldn't say this is high priority, but I do think you should reconsider.

 

Probably also low on the priority list, but Guilds could use some love. At minimum, bump up the amount of characters we can use for the HTML code.

 

It would also be nice to see more of the staff interacting with users. Be it on the Neoboards, your social media pages or even on fansites. You need to have a couple community managers that we can identify to and hang out with so to say.

I'm not sure about leveling, but I would certainly like to see stat changes of some sort.

Abso-freaking-lutely. I would like to be able to reclaim some of the usernames on my frozen accounts. I don't like Emelyn Taylor.

Usernames and pet names, yes. Plus, accounts that have been frozen for a certain length of time (especially if they were frozen for cheating...*cough, cough*)

I guess I miss the part where C$78.15 for a year's premium is "over C$100"?

But yes, it is kind of expensive. I find it easier to buy in four month blocks. $24.95 (USD) is just much more reasonable.

I love that idea. Just as long as they make the app tablet-friendly, since I don't have my smartphone anymore.

 

And I never got to play the FB game, because it went out before we had broadband; so I would definitely like to see it back.
