Mouseykins Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 That's my thinking too. I have a couple of the DVD releases my girls watch every once in a while. My 3 year old is enjoying watching Masha and the Bear on youtube kids. It's in Russian, but she still likes it. I'm not sure what all she's understanding with it though, but it keeps her occupied when her sister and I are doing school work. @balloongal247 Have you seen the new Sofia episode: Ivy's True Colors? My 3 year old is in tears after watching the episode and she wants to watch it again, even though it makes her cry. It's a good episode if you haven't seen it. I'm getting her another tissue to watch it again. Poor girl! balloongal247 1 Quote
balloongal247 Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Yes, I have. It was good. Though I think the original Ivy episodes are about the only ones I haven't seen, at least fully, so I might not have fully appreciated it. Quote
Mouseykins Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 It's a good episode! My 3 year old has been watching it several times and has now stopped crying when she watches it. She used to cry when watching Frozen when she was about 2. It was the part at the end when Anna gets turned to ice. I had to sit with her and tell her to watch and see that Anna would be alright. My oldest has never gotten emotional over a show, just shows how different they are. Sunday night it snowed here and it's melting now. The girls and I have to go out to the post office and the store for some milk, so hopefully it's not too icy out there. Since taking my daughter out of school I was thinking of having a Halloween party, but I'm still deciding what I want to do. Quote
Naamah D. Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Speaking of muffins, I don't really eat them anymore. Excessive gluten makes my knees hurt. Mouseykins, it snowed where you live? Lucky you. I wish it would snow where I live already because two of my favorite winter activities are tubing and sledding. Just out of curiosity do you still have your dogs? My real life Kougra (my cat Jude Dudley) likes to eat plastic so we have to keep plastic out of sight. Our other real life Kougra would rather cuddle than have cat treats. His name is Tucker. Quote
Mouseykins Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Yup it snowed, but it's all melted now though. Which is fine by me! I enjoy the beauty of winter, but not the extra work and the mess involved with having snow. Yep I still have my pup! Mouse is 11 years old now and still acts like a puppy, therefore I'm inclined to believe she's still a puppy. Sadly we did lose her Mum 6 years ago. Angel had serious health problems and we put her to sleep. She passed away in our living room on her blanket with her favorite toy. Since the time she was purposefully overdosed on a tranquilizer to stop her heart and end her pain and suffering she was not alone. My husband and/or I were with her. He made her a lovely box and we laid her to rest in our yard, in my flower garden actually. Whenever I'm there weeding or planting I always talk to her. Even though she's not here with us anymore, she's not truly gone. What's really funny actually, is Angel loved to climb into the laundry baskets with clothes in them. Didn't matter if they were clean or dirty, it was comfy. Though she seemed to prefer the clean clothes. A couple weeks ago Mouse was looking for a spot to lay on the couch and it just so happened that there was a laundry basket full of freshly laundered clothes. She climbs into it, looks at me with those adorable brown eyes saying "What?!" and I just about fell over laughing. I couldn't believe she climbed into the laundry. As far as I can recall I've never seen her do that. Your cat is silly! Wonder why plastic is so intriguing. Edit: Monday we made a spur of the moment trip into the city and I took our girls over to the Space & Science Center while Dad was across the street at his physio assessment. We were there from 1 - 5pm and we had a blast! I was hoping to take the girls into the planetarium, but it's being renovated so we made do with all the other exhibits and activities. The girls even got to pet and hold a bearded dragon on their laps! Pics and full details are posted on my blogs. raising-littles.tumblr.com and homeschooled-littles.tumblr.com If anyone is interested! Quote
Duma Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Pets just love soft stuff! Make sure you always check your laundry machine and dryer before turning it on! It would be horrible if they ended up being inside of it while it's turned on. I wish we had snow already, still 10 to 13 degrees Celcius here at noon. Well, now that I think about it maybe it can wait for another month. I don't think I would like snow very much when I have my drivers license exam in a month. At the moment I'm in the middle of trying to make onigiri for the first time (rice is cooling down). Went to this cool japanese supermarket the other day, about the only one I could find in the neighbourhood, and bought a bunch of stuff. Since it was not exactly cheap and a half an hour away with public transport I decided to just try at home. My normal supermarket sells sushi rice and nori so I can just make it myself. Or at least I hope. If it turns out okay, I might just make it a lot more. I'm a bit japanese obsessed at the moment. Trying out lots of kinds of their food, trying to teach myself the language (listening, reading and writing), watching anime (that's what started the obsession actually). I even bought myself a kendama. Mouseykins 1 Quote
Mouseykins Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Mouse weighs like 20 pounds so I'd know if she was in there when I took the basket down to do the laundry. Lately Mouse has been going outside constantly and it's driving us bonkers having to open the door and close it right away after she comes in so I said to my husband, "Two words for you. Doggy door!" So he replied back with, "Two words. A stuck!" A is our 3 year old and she most likely would try crawling through the doggy door and end up getting stuck in it. We got snow today! Probably about 3-5cm total. I have no idea I wasn't outside today. It was rather windy and still snowing a bit this evening. Having snow when you take your drivers exam next month might be a bit uncomfortable. But if there is snow then at least you can prove that you can drive in snowy conditions. My husband was working tonight and since I don't have my drivers license the girls and I stayed in and didn't go out trick-or-treating so our little girl doesn't catch a cold. A's too young to understand or care. K was a bit disappointed but she understood why we weren't going. I told her when we go shopping next I'd buy them a bag of lollipops and tomorrow if we go for our walk I'd let them wear their costumes. Dad was nice and brought them a few lollipops and a couple of chocolates each from work. I'm happy we didn't go because I've been trying to get most of the junk food and candy out of my house, and they don't really need any more of it. I don't know much about what you're making, but I hope it's good! K, my 6 year old actually tried sushi a few weeks ago and enjoyed it and she is the pickiest eater of them all. I was shocked! She demanded we get sushi from the store and ate one at home. Duma 1 Quote
Duma Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 ROFL A would do that for sure, and it wouldn't surprise me if K tried it too if her little sister was able to do it. Back when I was little we used the chicken door to get into the farm. I think I managed until I was 12 years old or so. I knew whenever my head fitted through, I would fit through completely. At school we had these metal fences and I would just go between the bars, no problem. I bet your girls would do the same . My onigiri turned out great to be honest, I made 2 with salmon, 2 with tuna and 2 with pink shrimps: If K likes sushi maybe she'll like this as well! Quote
balloongal247 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 @Mouseykins, they have animal doors keyed to collar tags or maybe even microchips, where it'll be locked unless the right pet is the one trying to open it. That way no animals or small children can wander through or get stuck. I like veggie sushi. Not sure I'd like it with raw fish and stuff... I like my foods fully cooked! I have the stuff to make it, but I don't do so very often. Quote
Mouseykins Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Duma, you're most likely right that they would do something like that. I can also see K pushing A through the doggy door and trying to yard her out if she gets stuck. @balloongal247 I'm aware of such technology, however Mouse is a pup who prefers to be naked. She never wears a collar around home, even though she's technically supposed to for her dog license for the town. But I don't even bother getting her licensed since it's just a money maker for the town and they get enough from us. Friends down the street had their dog licensed and it's supposed to keep you from being fined if your dog gets out, not the actual case. They were fined. I don't bother wasting $30 on it. When we go for trips and take Mouse with us she has to wear her halter and she has a love/hate relationship with it. She loves it for the fact that it means she gets to go on an adventure and she hates wearing it for prolonged periods of time. Plus a collar would just give the girls something else to yank on. Quote
balloongal247 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 @Mouseykins, is Mouse microchipped? (if not, they should be!) Like I said, I *think* there are some that work by sensing for the microchip, so that even if the pet loses their collar (or doesn't wear one), they aren't locked out. That might work for you. I just open the doors constantly, especially for one of my cats (the cats are allowed onto the screened in porch, not actually outside). If he gets too bad about it though, I just won't open the door, and if he meows too much about that, I just shoo him away from the door. Quote
Naamah D. Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 My favorite type of sushi are octopus, squid and mackerel. I also eat eel sushi. Quote

I had a dog when I was a kid and he was microchipped when he was adopted. That did him a lot of good when he got out of the yard at my dad's gf's place. They went all over seeing if anyone found him and he never turned up. Someone probably kept him. Poor Donnor he was such a lovely dog and broke our hearts when he ran away. Since we keep Mouse close to home and a constant eye on her there's no real reason to get her chipped imo. We've had her since the day she was born in our house! We'll just have to make do with getting up to let her out and close the door behind her. At least now our 6 year old is able to open and close the door so she can let Mouse out too. A isn't quite strong enough to open the door yet, thankfully, but she can close it so she helps too. We just have to be quick with the door so we reduce the draft that enters the house so it doesn't make it's way to Baby S too much. @Naamah We just had the basic sushi that you can get from the supermarket. Not the best, but it was rather decent. Quote
Duma Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 @balloongal247 for the things I made I actually didn't have raw fish inside (except the shrimps). It's basically the stuff you put on sandwiches, tunamayo and the same for salmon but with salmon instead of tuna of course. I do love normal sushi too though, with the raw fish. I just love fish, as long as there aren't any fishbones inside anymore. I'm a picky eater too when it comes to that: I DON'T want to pick. So no bones for me in either meat or fish. Veggie sushi is yummy too though. I just like variety. (Btw: usually supermarket sushi is horrible quality compared to sushi freshly prepared by a sushi-chef) @Mouseykins That's the good thing about kids growing up, they start being able to help you out! But like @balloongal247 says, letting the pet wait a bit if they keep going in and out isn't bad either! At least they know that they are crossing a line. Especially now that it's winter and it snowed at your place, I bet you want that door closed as much as possible. Quote
Mouseykins Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 I'd do that but then I'd be risking having a puddle on the floor which she's done to me a few times recently because I ignored her. Can't win can I! Quote

Can't win can I! That's a problem with my old lady dog. Sometimes I'm like "it's not time for you to go", but particularly if she went earlier than normal the night before, or if there's a thunderstorm, she does that. Usually these days it's an accident because she's like 14 years old. However, there were times that she would poop vindictively on the floor if we left her home alone. Like it didn't even have to be for hours, we're pretty sure she did it as soon as we left, because there were times she did it when we were only gone less than an hour, and it was totally not time for that. Luckily she hasn't done that lately. However, there have been times lately when she'll seemingly wet herself in her sleep. One time on my leg. I got up and was like "why is my pant leg so wet, while I was a little warm, I don't think I was sweating that badly...." and then checked the couch next to me and realized.... Oh, and then, because Dagny (old lady puppy) has these accidents sometimes, when we adopted a new, younger dog in May (she's about 2 now), she decided that the proper place to pee was not outside, but on my bedroom carpet! Luckily we were already in the process of pulling out the carpet and switching to hardwood floors. Quote
Mouseykins Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Pups sure can be a bit revengeful can't they! Mouse has done that to me a couple of times over the years. Mouse usually doesn't have accidents when we leave for a bit. She just tends to not drink as much water when we're gone. She has a spot in the basement with those puppy pads and our basement floor is easy to clean in that area. Ick more snow overnight! Now we've probably got 2-3" or a bit more then that. The girls are happy. Mouse, not so much! It's almost belly height for her. This morning we were out to take the recycling out to be picked up and Mouse usually follows me to the gate and she just stared at me from the deck. Poor pup just about became a pupsicle. If I left her in the house she would have barked and whined which would have woken the kids up and I wasn't ready for them to be up just yet. I'm hoping the recycle truck came this morning. This afternoon when my husband gets home he has to use the snowblower in the driveway, make a few paths in the yard for Mouse and do the sidewalks. EDIT: We've had a disappointing and heartbreaking development today. Due to Mouse's increased water consumption we took her to the vet. They tested her and she's in the beginning stages of Kidney Disease. She also has elevated liver enzymes and has to fast for 12 hours before her blood test on Monday to see what's going on there. To manage her kidneys we're trying a change in diet so *fingers crossed* she adjusts to the switch. Both her front legs have been shaved in small patches to accommodate the blood draw, so she looks a little funny and is a bit sore. We've been helping her up onto the couch and down as much as possible to help her rest. They even trimmed her nails too! We're used to her having somewhat long nails which she trims herself and she makes a distinct clicking when she walks. Now she sounds so different walking! I"m just glad she has something that is treatable. We are not finished with her and need more time with our special girl. Quote

We've been dealing with the shaved bits on our pup lately as well. My girl, Minnie, was hit by a car and they had her shaved to give her stitches and and IV. The hair has ALMOST grown back, but man she looked pretty silly during the whole deal. I'm so glad what Mouse has is treatable as well!! Fingers crossed for your pup that she adjusts to the new diet :) Mouseykins 1 Quote

They wrapped her paws yesterday for us and in the evening we changed the bandages. I have to attempt to change them myself. One fell off and the other one is loose. Hopefully if I catch her while she's resting she'll let me. If not we'll have to wait until Dad gets home and he can bandage her boo-boos. She has polysporin on to help her legs heal. She's not washing them so that's good. Our main reason for keeping them wrapped is so she can't wash them. We'll get the results back in a couple of days, so we'll know what's going on with our girl. Awe I'm sorry to hear about your Minnie. I'm glad she's doing better and I hope her recovery continues to go well. Quote

I mean FLEW off and hit the fence. It was not my shining moment. I'm just glad I was outside and could catch it before she went to chewing on her stitches. Quote

Thankfully you caught it before she started chewing on them! Mouse is basically back to normal now, constantly wanting to play. Her bandages came off yesterday and she hasn't been licking her legs so I've left them off. Later I'll see if I can squeeze her into letting me put some more polysporin on her legs and some on her neck. They took some blood from her neck too so they wouldn't bruise or hurt her legs any more. Monday they said if the bandages come off and she's washing her legs then we might have to come back in and get a cone put on her. I can just imagine this little pup wandering around with a cone on her head, running into everything and just being even more of an all around cranky girl. We're still waiting for the vet's office to call so we know exactly what's up with her. Quote

Do you mean the very big ones? the Cheetoh cats? Or just cats with these colorings? There are a lot of species that have cheetah like spots. Bengal, Savannah, Egyptian Mau, California Spangled Cat, Ocicat to name a few. I Like the Cheetoh, Bengal, Savannah and Ocicat the most out of these spotted ones. (Yup, I am a cat girl ) Quote
