It looks like donating more potions + battling more had zero effect on the prizes/trophies. (So I'm glad I didn't do any of that, but I feel kinda bad for the people who did, because it's so hard to tell whether or not that kind of stuff will be rewarded.) I'm pretty happy with the prizes though. ?

I'm with @phill and @Nielo Shenkuu has always appealed to me as a place so the first year I played I picked them, and I've stuck with them since. I don't think there's much hope of them ever winning, they seem to be pretty stable middle-rankers, but I'm gonna stay with them.
One of the BIG deciding factors for me though was the fact that there's 3 female team members. Not many of the teams have ANY female players, unfortunately. : /

In my case, yep, I always play with numbers! I'm surprised you feel that the symbols are easier to follow... That screenshot you posted makes my head hurt, lol. I'm not usually a fan of numbers (I'm more of a word game kind of gal), but in this case I think the numbers are more straightforward. Everyone knows 1 is followed by 2, which in turn is followed by 3. So you just go 1-2-3-2-1-2-1-2-3...
Oh, and for a higher score, I always make sure to get at least one golden tile in the first level. If I don't, I restart the game. I usually score somewhere between 30k and 50k in level 1. My highest score ever was 753,900, which earned me a bronze trophy (it was one of the few trophies I earned by accident - I love this game so much! ).

Too bad you didn't use that image for the caption contest. Lots of snarky, nautical potential there!

Um, you could get in trouble for letting someone else play a game for you, on your account, and, also "paying"/giving them an item for doing so.

For future reference (assuming it works the same in UK as in US) you can link Paypal directly to a debit/credit card or checking account! So you don't have to transfer to Paypal and then pay, it all just goes automatically ^^ I've done this for years and never had any problems with security or anything like that. Highly recommend it!

I've had that happen once before. And it wasn't a bank robot, it was a bank person. I think it must have been because I bought NC several times on the same day, so it may have looked like the site was charging me multiple times for one transaction. I have to admit, I was a little embarrassed admitting that I'd spent all that money on neopets.com.... ?
Since then, I've started using Paypal for all my Neopets purchases. It's a lot simpler anyway, and the bank trusts Paypal a lot more. But idk if you can use it in the UK...?

i think the score is achievable by level 8 - 9 
no need to get to level 10 even 
but i will try to play again on my own terms and see where i get 
EDIT 
I played on big screen and towards the later levels (5 - 6) i died once on purpose and that boosted my score 
Level 7 allowed me to get a 1000+ score ... you can simply die on purpose and the score will accumulate
Don't forget the code "deliciousflies" for an extra life .. it really comes in handy later in the game 
TIP
 Try not to hold / keep your finger on the space bar , esp. in later levels , even though it keeps your tongue out , you need to be able to move quickly to avoid the speeding bee and to meet the flies as they get dangerously close by maneuvering the lilies .. i used quick strokes to get short bursts of tongue that can eat several flies in a row 

I also have Premium Membership. I have had this for about 5 years running (maybe longer). I don't think I would play Neopets without it. The SSW alone makes it worth it but there are other perks. I use PayPal and it just auto renews every year at the same time. I say if you can pay for the yearly membership that would be the way to go since you do save money.

To add to what @kayahtik the Premium sale is usually in July when the NC Mall celebrates its birthday. Personally, I'm too cheap for premium.

Thank you both for your thoughts, I appreciate it! (and thanks kayahtik for those older threads.) I decided to go ahead and purchase a single month just to see if it was worth it... in the last like TWO HOURS I have decided it was an excellent decision! I've been able to check off a couple avatars, mostly because I knew I'd be able to resell items as soon as I was done with them. I also cleared out my shop AND purchased several new things for my gallery. I think it will still take a while to track down enough Pumpkin Shields and GGTs for ITTPD, but at least I'll be able to find good prices (and actually make nps selling stuff quickly!).....

tbh I wouldn't play Neopets without premium, mainly because of the ads and ssw. I'm currently on an annual subscription. Once a year there's a sale where you can get it a little bit cheaper than normal, so I wait for that to roll around and then renew.

actually it's a reversed L that can be turned clockwise. I usually preferred the upside down L, three blocks on the left and one in the top right. I would bring 2 blocks in from the bottom right. You don't need to have a pair close to it though, if you have plenty of time (in the earlier levels) you can  bring two blocks together first.
Also, I liked having a combo of 6 with an hourglass ready in the bottom left corner of my screen (it can be anywhere though). I would have it like in that screenshot (but different rotation) so that I could get extra time with just one click. Try to save the hourglasses that give extra time for when you need them or when there are more than enough. If you do have a dynamite, clear out the other colors first so you have a big combo. If you have a multiplier, bring that up to your dynamite to get lots of points. I believe that blocks with powerup don't get destroyed when you clear a dynamite block, but can't remember (and I'm not about to go and play it again to check it).
In the later levels I didn't bother making big combo's anymore, I just tried to make as much squares as I could even if most of them were 2x2. I'm not really good at this game, so people that are good at it might have better tips.

This may be the one that undoes me. My highest score so far is ~360. I can't believe how slowly the points go up in this game ;.;
And if it weren't already hard enough, playing is making me dizzy. That turmac rolls wayyyyyy too fast.
