Anime got a reaction from _ahre_ in The Daily Neopets Forum Guidelines FAQ
In this topic, you can find detailed information on various aspects of the rules that people frequently ask about. Currently, this topic includes questions about the following:
Bumped Topics Short Posts If your question is not covered here, please feel free to PM Spritzie with your question.

    Bumped Threads

Q: What is a bumped thread?
A: Here on TDN, a bumped thread is a thread that has been posted on long after the thread's relevance has passed. This includes old News threads, discussions that became inactive due to lack of new things to discuss, and threads about events that have ended and are not recent, among other things.

Q: I think my post added lots of new information to the discussion. Who can I talk to about unlocking the thread?
A: If you think your thread has been unfairly locked, send a Private Message to Spritzie, our Head Mod. She will review the thread in question and your reasons for wanting it unlocked. If she feels your reasons are sound and that others will be interested in continuing the discussion, she will reopen the thread.

    Short Posts

Q: What is a short post?
A: A short post is any post that contains less than 7 words. Smilies are not included in this count, as they are not words. Quotes are not counted either because they are someone else's words rather than your own.

Q: Why are short posts bad?
A: Short posts are considered spammy because they do not add much, if anything, to the conversation.

Q: I really want to post, but I only need four or five words to do so. Do you have any suggestions about how to lengthen my post?
A: For starters, try elaborating on the topic at hand. If you're posting in the News forum, add in why you like or dislike the news you're posting about. If you're posting in a discussion, explain why you agree or disagree with someone, or expand on your point of view. There are lots of ways to add more words to your post, and all of them are related to expanding on your point and adding to the discussion. If you can't think of a single way to add to your post, you're probably better off not posting and simply leaving a comment on someone's profile or sending them a PM.

Q: Do abbreviations count as words?
A: Used sparingly, abbreviations are considered a single word. "ALP", "kthxbai", and "idk" are all examples of abbreviations that, while they stand for several words, will only count as one.

Q: What do you mean by "used sparingly"?
A: Overusing chat speak (abbreviated or otherwise) is considered spam. If you just have one or two chat speak words or abbreviations in your post, there is no issue. If your posts consists entirely of chat speak, it is considered spam regardless of the length of the post.

Anime got a reaction from BrassOtter in Social Rights on Cross-Gender Interests
It all links back to one very simple thing that has dominated our culture for far, far too long:

Being female is seen as "weak" while being male is seen as "strong".

As such, it becomes okay for a woman to do things seen as "for men" because she's "moving up" and "acting stronger", while a man doing things that are "for women" is "moving down" and "being weak". And it's a horrible double standard, and total bull crap, but that's the mindset behind that particular reaction.

Really, it shouldn't matter what anyone likes or wants to do and no one should be ostracized for doing anything they enjoy doing (provided they're not harming someone else, obvs)...

10 years goes by so fast! I've been a member for about 6 years and a staff member for 5, but in some ways, it feels like time has gone by so fast!

It was such a great experience being a member here and I jumped at the chance to apply for staff and it's been such an amazing experience, helping out with the site and forums and getting to work with all of the great staffers, past and present.

I've met so many great people here and I've met two of my closet friends here.

They didn't specify very well, did they? Any item with the category "School" can be donated. If you bring up an item in your inventory you'll see a "Type" field in the information. Anything that says "School" there will qualify. This is generally notebooks, folders, pencils, ect. Be careful though, if an item is r101 it's type "Special" and will not count even if it's a relevant kind of item (such as notebooks from old Advents). You can also sort your SDB by type. Selecting "School" there will bring up the relevant items (though again, take care about r101 things).

I did some checking, and yes, 5 is the upper limit. So when donating, the first item can be whatever, but after that, the rarity of the next item must be between the rarity of the item before it, and that rarity plus 5 inclusive.

So, if r is the rarity of the item preceding this one, and n is the rarity of the current item to be added:
    r ≤ n ≤ r+5

And the dropdowns will helpfully sort this mathy stuff out for you as you go so you can't accidentally try and donate things that aren't properly sorted. You won't even be able to make the selection.

Yes, you can donate the same item several times. I donated 5 Yellow Tonu Folders earlier in one go.

This does include books and wearables (I missed that tidbit when I made my earlier post, since it's an offhand remark in the event description...). But the wearables all things in the cross-section between "wearable" and "school" or "clothes" or "books". And while a lot of wearables are clothing items, most clothing items aren't wearable. People are far more likely to donate the piles of cheap, unwearable clothes items laying about than expensive wearables. The same goes for books, really- people are far more likely to donate cheap junk books you can get from dailies or the BD than anything particularly expensive.

Also they've changed the donating style from last year, so JN may have just copied the old one over to start with. Instead of being "five items in this range" it's "five items, with each one being no more than 5 rarity points above the previous". So an r76 can have up to an r81 after it. (If that 5 turns out to be wrong forgive me, I haven't tested this in depth yet but it makes sense as a breaking point.)

Note that the above goes double because last year's end prizes were ridiculously little compared to the effort a lot of people put in. I'm personally going to donate several times so I get a trophy, but it'll mostly be things from my SDB and dailies fodder.

Anime got a reaction from mtsparky in Transferring pets with PB clothes?
The PB clothes transfer system is a bit funky, and I can see how you'd be kinda confused. It's hard to word in a sensible manner.

That said, you've got the right idea for getting the clothes and pet you want moved to your side. What you detailed should work perfectly for your purposes.

As for your specific questions, the short answer to both is "yes". Once the clothes are on the side account, you will only be able to move those clothes if you have a Stealthy Draik on that account and transfer it out. You won't be able to move them with a Magma or Purple or whatever other color Draik.

To elaborate on how the system works (in a way that hopefully makes sense)....

Basically, when a pet is transferred, the system does various checks on the pet and its clothing and items and such. Noting that I don't have exact knowledge of how they've got the backend of the site set up, my guess is that the chunk of code that handles which clothing items stay and go would go something like this:

For each article of clothing the pet has on:
       Is this an NC item?
       If yes:
Remove the item from the pet and place it in the current owner's closet.
If no, is this an NP item?
       If yes:
Leave the clothing item on the pet, transfer as is.
If no (meaning it must be a PB item):
Check the item against the pet's color. Does this item come with this color of the pet?
          If yes:
Leave the clothing item on the pet, transfer as is.
          If no:
Remove the item from the pet and place it in the current owner's closet.

Does this pet/color combo come with PB clothes?
       If yes:
For each article of PB clothing this pet/color combo comes with:
Does this item exist anywhere on the account?
          If yes:
Is the pet currently wearing this item?
             If yes:
Leave the clothing item on the pet, transfer it as is.
             If no:
Is the item on another pet?
                If yes:
Remove the item from the other pet. Place it in a "temporary transfer closet". When the transfer is accepted, place it in the new owner's closet.
                If no:
Remove the item from the closet. Place it in a "temporary transfer closet". When the transfer is accepted, place it in the new owner's closet.

I have no idea if that helped you specifically, but that's as straightforward as I can make what the system does when it comes to clothes when you transfer a pet.

Pets can only be transferred once per day, so this is likely a weird glitch with the BD being down that's getting the errors crossed. Just try again tomorrow.

Anime got a reaction from sara1elo in Please Do Not Train ALP Pets
    Hello all!

We've been running into a bit of an odd issue with our pet lends of late. We've occasionally had pets returned to us with increased stats, something that we would much prefer to not happen in order to keep transfer costs down.

As such, we would like to request that everyone refrain from training ALP pets in any way (from actual courses to faerie quests). We understand that occasionally stat boost REs happen, but please keep the pet out of the line of fire by have one of your own pets active unless strictly necessary to obtain an avatar.

Keeping your own pets active also goes a long way to preventing rare color or species changing REs from hitting ALP pets, so really doing so is an all-around good thing!

    Thank you!

The language switcher has been wonky since the server move.

I've found that if you use a different browser sometimes it helps. IE specifically the language tends to stick better on, so you may try logging in on whatever version of IE is hiding on the dregs of your computer and seeing if that works. I would recommend logging in, doing the reading, and then logging out and not going anywhere but your inventory, however. it is IE.

It may have been changed at some point, but so long as it's not a limited edition pet or a rare color (it's easier to list what you can get....) you should be able to transfer it. If nothing else, it doesn't hurt to try and send the pet. Worst case the system goes "That account can't accept that pet yet!"

If it won't let you then a pound drop is an option. For a basic color, common species, it should be fairly simple. I'd recommend being logged into both accounts on different browsers and have the pound up on your side ready to search to make things faster. But no one's going to be trying to snipe a basic pet so if you're quick you should be fine. )
