So we've seen in families like the Fairweathers or Sophie and Bruno's family, sometimes the parents are a different species than their offspring! That could be because they've transformed since conceiving their children, or they have recessive species markers that come out in their children, or just because, but I LOVE the idea of offspring having some inherited traits from their parents! If you scroll down on the main event hub page there's a bar that shows how many points out of 3000 you've gained during Chapter 8. To my knowledge there isn't a weekly cap, just the 3000 total you can get before the next Chapter releases (most are saying 2? weeks or whenever they decide to drop it).
