While I've never sent a support ticket in myself, I have heard many people complain about really long wait times, or not getting a reply at all. ? I'm not sure what age exactly you mean by 'older', but I'm pretty sure that a lot of older users (my mom, for instance) are tech savvy enough to use ad blockers, which are so omnipresent these days that some browsers actually include them by default. I'm not exactly sure how Neopets generates income from ads, but what I've been able to find is that it's most common for ads to only generate (a tiny bit of) money when they're clicked. I think @jellysundae is right, and that Neo's resources are pretty limited these days. (I'm also not sure what kind of effect NetDragon's purchase of JumpStart had on the site, but the pessimistic side of me can't help but think that a game that's been bought by several different companies over the years will probably feel the effects of that, and not in a good way.)

This happens quite often (it even happened with another book from this year's Advent Calendar, I think). New items aren't always activated right away, so we'll end up with books that can't be read, album items that can't be put in your stamp album, or toys that can't be played with. They usually fix it within a few days, so you'll probably be able to read this book to your pets soon.

I assumed that was intentional though, considering he's seeing his life flash before his eyes. The restaurant scene was simply a flashback to last year. And isn't the Unfortunate Holiday Ogrin a recurring (Advent Calendar) character anyway? I'm pretty sure I've seen people mention him before, and there's even an Unfortunate Holiday Ogrin Action Figure (given out in Y15). So, while there are definitely instances in which JS/NetDragon have copied previous artwork, I don't think that's the case here; they were simply continuing this Ogrin's story.

I'm not a 100% sure, as I've never actually used a Hue Brew Potion myself, but I don't think there are any Christmas colours. The potion looks different, but it'll still give you one of the regular colours. Here's a thread from last year discussing that very thing.

I believe they do change them quite often. TDN has lists of both active and retired Dyeworks items.
