  1. I'm nearly done with "Miss Julie" by August Strindberg (from a book called Thirty Famous One-Act Plays, published in 1943). I'm in the middle of 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller, and I just started Life and Time by Isaac Asimov. I just finished The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman.

As soon as I finish the last 2-3 pages of "Miss Julie," I'll start on King Lear because I rented the DVD, too, and I want to read it before I watch it. And the next children's lit book I start will be A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck.

  2. From what I've heard, the bag lockouts come from having more than 100 pages of items in the bag. That's why I keep the eggs to 50 pages. I put filled storages in there, too, but I only have a few pages because it takes a while to fill and Habi is too draining to leave open long on my computer (it overheats it) -- and I had to delete just about all of them during the second gem lockout. I'll start deleting eggs if I get more than about 5-10 pages of storages. It's just nice to have lots of extras in case I don't harvest very many, and I should be able to level quickly by discarding them (or hatch them as my habi expands). If we ever get to level again.

  3. I'd be satisfied with just 100k interest... that would be amazing. I wonder how many neopoints you would need for that.

291,997,081 NP. (edit: got ninja'ed. Ah, well. I used Google's calculator: 99999*365/0.125, then added 1 so it would round up)

I don't foresee myself ever getting there; I don't restock.

Right now, I'm rebuilding my bank account because I just bought a KBT for the war. What am I building towards? I suppose the paintbrush and morphing potions to turn my battle pet into an Island Mynci once I stop zapping her (I save so much money supplementing training with zapping that I've already "paid for" them 3 times over, by my calculations -- but I don't actually have the money to show for it!). A few weapons upgrades, eventually (100% freezer, 100% healer, better shields/reflectors/bombs). Maybe a few super-expensive items for my gallery. The more expensive avvies (I'm only 54 away from getting the avvie high score avvie).

Hmm, maybe that's why I've been demotivated lately on Neopets; I don't have a specific goal I'm currently working towards. Well, now I've got the war, but for the past year or so, there wasn't really anything. Okay, it's decided: tidy my gallery to submit it for the spotlight, and buy a better shield in the HT once I raise the funds (probably after this war, especially since we might get good weapons prizes).

  4. I don't think you can give special NC-locked items away in gift boxes, because the casks themselves are not actually NC (they show up in your regular inventory) -- they're just not tradeable, like the Moltaran worms. I've just dumped them in my SDB along with all the old ones, to rot for forever. I suppose if I ever won a surfeit of NC, I might consider opening some of them depending on what's inside, if I could get my hands on keys then. *shrugs* But really, they'll most likely just rot until Neopets goes away. Or my account does.

  5. Wow. :O

Well, when you sell next, I bet it'll be an absolutely amazing profit. Do you tend to sell all of your shares in a company, or only half or wahtever?

I always buy whichever 15NP stock I have the least of. Then I sell ~15-30% when it first hits 60, and then about the same at 75, and then sell the rest when it drops that 10% but is still above 60. They never hit all at once. I did make about 1.5M over the course of a week about 2 weeks ago, from 3 different stocks hitting 60. I have ~20-25k shares of most stocks under 60, some more, some less.

When I was saving for a pirate pb back when they were 12M (yes, I really did pay that much 3 months before they were released as an AC prize), I actually compared stocks vs. bank. At the time, I was making far more in the stock market vs. if I had that same amount in the bank. I'm not sure if this is true anymore; they just don't seem to cycle through as quickly, as evidenced by my growing stock of stock. It seems like the time to turnover has at least doubled (since I have twice as much on hand as I used to and my buying is constant). Is the Neodaq still around? I should do some calculations and figure out if there's a slightly lower sell point that would be better (if it's hit much more often than the old 60 -- it seems like they get close often but rarely get there now).

  6. Eek! Don't do that! I got locked out twice by filling my board with gems and having my browser/Flash crash. The second lockout took forever to fix, too, and I lost ~50,000 NP worth of stored eggs and dozens of filled storages (and the first one happened before the workaround was discovered, so it was months).

I wonder if they'll ever release additional levels for Habi. I'm nearly back to being ready to level up quickly if it does come back (that's what the 50 pages of eggs are for).

  7. Can't wait for the next round to begin! I got so into the whole Battledome thing yesterday, made some changes in the equipment of my pets, learned some abilities and so on. My lab zapped pets are so weak in defence that I need to equip them with shields mostly :D I want more faeries in bottles.

Actually, you're probably better off attacking like crazy with higher-icon weapons than using shields if your strength and HP are high vs. your defense. For example, if you've got the x7 str but only x2 def, that means a 13-icon attack will take 91 HP from your enemy (assuming he doesn't defend), while a 13-icon shield will only save you from losing 26 HP. If you need defense, look at full blockers (such as Hanso Charisma Charm, which attacks 10 icons but blocks all dark) or things that don't rely on your boost (such as downsize!, which blocks half of one attack per battle; single-use thick smoke bombs, which block all of one attack per battle; and reflectors, which reflect a certain percentage of an attack back on your enemy instead -- but many of which are fragile and could break permanently -- check out artisan lens and expert lens for non-fragile cheaper reflectors).

I managed to hit all the win limits in TFR using double Ylanas blasters and the above defensive strategies; my leaf shield wasn't blocking enough for the stronger enemies to be helpful. I found that I needed to end the battles as quickly as possible, and leaf shield made me go an extra round (because it kept me from using one of the blasters) but didn't save me enough HP to last that extra round.

I managed to beat each baddie 47 times yesterday (I was trying to even things up and kept getting faction challenges). Today, I think I'll refresh periodically and do any challenges I get, and then try to even things up again at the end of the day.

  8. I think I win. And by that I mean lose:

    Totals: 678,500 16,574,500 9,071,000 -45.27%

I buy 1k shares every single day. I sell at 60 or above, and I only sell once the price has started to fall again (by 10%+, which is usually only 6-7 points) to try to time the market. It used to be that I had ~300k shares on hand as a steady state. A few weeks ago, I was down in the low 600's. I might have to reconsider my sellpoint.

  9. I think that the item order in the inventory should mirror that of quick stock though. What is now listed at the top of the inventory, is still listed at the bottom of the quick stock list and it's just a personal grievance because it's throwing off my efficiency.

This! It's really bugging me; it makes it harder to find things in either because depending on what I'm doing, I go to one or the other, and with restocking my shop a lot lately, I don't know where anything should be any more.

I also don't like all the extra space at the top; it was already pretty bad. Especially when most of the links are a repeat of the shop links just above them, anyway.

I honestly don't get what's so different, though, besides newer items being first (and the mostly redundant links being back -- I'd rather they add the missing links to the top banner so I can get to them from any of the other shop-type pages and get rid of the Aisha, though I suppose I could ad-block it). To be fair, I suppose newer items being first makes more sense; I just wish it were consistent with quickstock.

I noticed they fixed help as another "quality of life" change. It's much better.

  10. It's not really a superstition, per se, because I don't believe it's lucky, but I don't really have a rational reason for doing it, either. Whenever the Wheel of Monotony lands on the beast, I click on the link, knowing I will see the 3D pteredactyl jumping out at me (I always mute my volume first). I guess I just really appreciate the art? *shrugs*

  11. I noticed after I filled mine that it had a gold checkmark. In other events, the color of the checks was often gold for completing on the first day and green for completing but not on the first day. So maybe there will be something similar. I wonder how often we'll get new waves with new achievements to unlock.

I also wonder whether your other fights will still count towards your faction, just like some people would play more games and help their team in the AC, even if it doesn't help you individually get more prize points (like in TFR, when it told you that you'd reached the win limit -- I assume the bar is the equivalent).

  12. I joined the Seekers, too. Now that the Neopedia pages are up, I realize I might have considered the Brute Squad (because I bet a lot of the big battlers joined them, which could help their chances, and they have an altruistic goal, too). But I still like the Seekers, so I'll just have to fight as much as I can and help us win.

Less than 24 hours! My battle pet is armed, trained (just got the 600 str and 600 def boosts yesterday), and schooled; she was smart enough to have a large stockpile of healing potions and a small one of thick smoke bombs and jade elixirs.

I do hope we have some puzzles as well as battles. It'd be neat if we unleashed something that all of us would have to work together to conquer. Besides, the battlers always get to fight in puzzle plots, so it's only fair that we puzzlers get to puzzle at least a little in a war, right?

  13. I selected "other." While I finally played a game of KQ yesterday and it seemed better, I had stopped a few weeks (months?) ago because of the glitches. I got sick of only having 1 of every 4-5 games actually finish because either I or my opponent got booted, even though we both had decent internet connections. I couldn't stand how long it took the game to load from the start (if it ever even did). And then the mini-games (which I try to avoid, but I won't if that's the way I need/have to go), which either wouldn't load at all, crashing the game, or would load full of glitches and bugs (spyderbytes not letting people's spyders go down, the memory game saying you clicked incorrectly even when you didn't, not registering clicks in the berry-clicking and nova games, giving points to the wrong player in several games...). Like I said, I played yesterday, and it was better, but over the past several weeks/months, I've had times where I could get a good game in, but most of the time couldn't finish one due to the glitches. And then to get absolute junk because TNT hasn't updated the seasonal prizes in ages... It's frustrating.

  14. Thanks for the advice. I was actually considering the following HT items:

    Attack upgrade:

    Sword of * (anagram swords)

    Pirate Captains Cutlass

    Skarls Hasty Mace

    Kelpbeards Trident

    Jhudora the Dark Faerie Doll

    Glittery Faerie Dust

    Shield Upgrade:

    Shield of Pion Troect

    Shield of Faerieland

    Pirate Captains Hat

    Hubrid Nox Memorial Shield

    Ghostkershield

    Faerie Tabard

    Dr. Sloths Personal Body Armour

    Freezer Upgrade:

    Magical Marbles of Mystery

Bomb "Upgrade" (to replace nothing, really):

    Ghostkerbomb

    Dual Duty/Unique:

    Mask of Coltzan

    Bracelet of Kings

I just don't know what the weakest component of my set is, particularly in 2p, and thus which is the most important to upgrade.

ETA: Guess I'll have to figure it out myself. I'll be checking back again until ~10pm NST. Thanks again for any insight anyone can offer.

  15. I need weapons advice given that today is HT discount day and there's a war on. I'm mostly a 1p battler (plots, DoN, avatars), but if it's to be a war, I guess I'm going to have to learn 2p. I'd like to add 1-2 items to upgrade my set a bit, preferably something(s) from the HT so I don't overpay, that will serve me well in the looming war and yet also work well in my usual 1p battles.

    Current stats:
    Level: 297
    Health: 580 / 580
    Strength: ULTIMATE (595)
    Defence: ULTIMATE (590)
    Move: ULTIMATE (585)
    Intelligence: ULTIMATE GENIUS (1009)
(I train in Ninja School and w/ lab ray, though I try to keep things balanced. I cancelled a training today because zed codestone prices had doubled in 4 hours. I need ~10 days of training to get everything to the next boosts/training level.)

    My current weapons:
    2x Ylanas blasters (att 5F 2A 3E 3P each)
Hanso charisma charm (att 5L 5E, def all D)
Heavy robe of thievery (def 2L, 100% steal - if stealing is active during the war, 1x/battle)
Bag of healing dust (heal 50% of max HP, 1x/battle)
    Randomly Firing Freeze Ray (50% freeze or 50% att 2W 2A, 1 freeze/battle?)
Downsize! (def half of everything, 1x/battle)
Parasol of unfortunate demise (def all L 3W 2-5E)
    Devious top hat and cane (att 2A 2P, def 3L 3E 3P - if attacked w/ air, def +3P)
    Leaf shield (def 5E 5W 3P)
    Earthen scorchstone (def 5A 5D)
Yooyuball goal net shield (def all A if attacked w/ E, def all F if attacked w/ A, or nothing)

I've also got a few of some 1-use/fragile items:
    ornate fighting fan (att 5A 5E 5P) - 1 use
    amulet of darkness (ref 75% D 25% F) - 1 use
amulet of reflection (ref all F all D) - 1 use
jade elixir (full heal) - 1 use
thick smoke bomb (def all) - 1 use
    double dryer (ref 50% A) - fragile
turbo flame reflector (ref 50% F) - fragile
dual battle mirror (ref 50% L) - fragile
expert lens (ref 50% L) - not sure if it's fragile?
    artisan lens (ref 25% L 25% E) - not sure if it's fragile?
ultra dark reflectorb (ref 50% D) - fragile
only 25% reflectors for earth and water - fragile
scroll of freezing (freeze 100%) - 20% fragile
several of the 15-icon attacking muffins (various combinations of icons) - 1 use
    fire jug (att 3F 2L, def all W 2E) - 1 use
    slippery floor potion (att 2A 2W 2P, def all F all W) - 1 use
    stream of light (att 2A 2L, def all D 2E) - 1 use
several magic potions that def all of a single icon - 1 use

I do have a lot of TFR plot points left, so I could buy Brynns legendary sword, but it doesn't seem all that different from the blasters (or another Hanso charisma charm, but I don't think I need two of those). I don't think I've spent last year's AC points either, though I didn't get very far in that, so if there were weapons, I may not be able to afford them. I don't want to overpay, so I'm mostly looking at HT items, mostly a shield or bomb, but maybe an upgraded attack weapon? Not sure what's best to round out my set. I'm looking to spend ~8M, but it's flexible. Thanks for any advice!

  16. Hey Question: How do you add a game to your favorites list?

Thanks for asking! I was wondering the same thing; I thought I was going crazy.

Pirates will win!!! ^__^ good luck though everyone! Though my prizes are saying Undefined :/

You click the heart at the top left of the game :) make sure it stays red though.

And thanks for answering... but Ninjas all the way! (Only because they picked puzzles; otherwise pirates rock.)
  17. Congrats on your first win! I didn't do it until Thursday, so I'm not too surprised not to be top 250. I caught this week's news after 30 people had already scored 600k or higher on Spellseeker (the Better Than You contest), so I doubt I'll be getting the top 250 next week; either. I have gotten it a few times, though, and not always on Wednesday, either.

P.S. If you're trying this week's, a program like Microsoft Excel is your friend. I saw that some people tried on a calculator, but that's a lot more work.

  18. Only two or three? I've been getting 10+/day. As long as you have strong (different!) passwords on both accounts, you should be fine. I think anyone can request that your password be sent to your e-mail address; TNT won't show what your e-mail address is to them, though!

  19. I like JellyNeo's item database for things like this because you can click on the price (once you've clicked on a specific item) and see the price history for that item (how its price has changed over time, and how recently they updated the price). If you want to search in the Shop Wizard, when you hover over a shop, you'll see "obj_info_id=" followed by a number. Even though each piece has the same name, they each have their own number. I used to buy individual pieces and sell whole sets. By keeping track by id # and recording prices by letter group, I could get an idea of what was a good price for each piece without having to click into a shop.

  20. All the new games are listed here, and you can win prizes for beating AAA and Abi in Smelt. You probably missed an awesome plot (The Faeries' Ruin) and the Daily Dare, but you're right in time to join the Altador Cup and pick a team for the staff tournament (have to pick by midnight NST tonight). Welcome back!
