neomail filters, keeping us safe from english.

Recommended Posts

A short message I was trying to send kept giving me the "Oops! You're doing something naughty!".

Since I was telling someone about the items stuck in my neopets Closet, I mentioned the NC mall, paintbrushes and the pound....Am I getting blasted for scams, cheating, what?

Took me forever to figure out the bad word i was trying to use was "accumulated" as in "NC mall items I've accumulated through the years".

Are you kidding me TNT? I then had to stare at that word (because saying it aloud didn't reveal anything naughty) for a while to figure out why it was blocked. That's such a reach.

Unfortunately the filters pick up a lot of blocked words within words and have done so for quite some time.  Your best bet is to copy neomails etc before sending/submitting just in case you've accidentally included something.  If you're really having trouble finding the triggering word you can always paste the text into a petpage and it will tell you what word is being blocked when you try to preview or save the changes.

THAT is a really handy tip, Brianna! I think people not knowing which are the offending word/s is the most frustrating thing.

"George Cybunny tonight at the Tyrannia Concert Hall with the 7000 Words You Can't Say In Neopia"

XD that's all I can think of from this.

It's kinda sad that the new TNT isn't working on making some words that are far from swears ok to say for once

I'd guess sorting out the word filter is way down on their list of priorites at the moment. But it's going to be moving closer to the top as more things get fixed! :D

I wish the filters would either tell you which word it doesn't like or replace the offending word with asterisks. If they are going to be that strict, why would they not want people to know what the rules are? Having to play twenty questions and try to read dirty words into literally everything is ridiculous and ironically encourages you to see inappropriate double meanings in innocent words.

Exactly. I remember sending a neomail to a friend asking her if she wanted to play keyquest. It was so long ago so I don't remember what word got flagged, but I remember thinking "Wha?" It serves no purpose if it's just going to make you try to see inappropriate things that aren't there.

Words like cucumber and cracker get blocked too. Makes fun on the quest boards... charades anyone.... 1st word......

During the faerie quest event, I thought about making a gallery of neoboard censored items.

I was sending a recipe to someone via NM, and something in the recipe was blocked. It took me forever, changed at least 20 words, then I put it in my petpage, and discovered that the word 'scrape' (as in 'scrape the batter out of the bowl) wasn't allowed, because of 'rape'. God, that was annoying!

They need some kind of uber-advanced filter that takes context into consideration, don't they. Something like that probably does exist, but it no doubt costs the arms and legs of a small continent.

Just adding a gazillion part words to a basic forum filter isn't a viable long-term option on a high traffic site. : /
