Why do you fight in the BD?

Recommended Posts

That's a question that I'm asking myself more these days and I'd love to hear your answers too. I'm either going through a huge slump or something has changed from TNT's side.

Background: I have been training my pet for months now and his stats are:

Level: 123

health:156

Strength:150

Defense: 142

Movement: 72

I've done my research with the battlepedias and have some strong weapons. Some were dirt cheap and some cost a pretty np or two. I was advised by a veteran of the BD to start fighting both koi warrior and Jetsam Ace (yes, I have premium) in order to win codestones and nerkmids. Needless to say, my pet beats them both easily without breaking a sweat. I have been fighting one on one day and the other the next. Up until a few weeks ago, he was winning a good deal of codestones (at least 4 a day, usually more) and with the JA he would get a minimum of one nerkmid each day he fought him. That basically paid for the training that day plus a little bit extra.

The past couple of weeks have been terrible and I don't know what's going on. I started keeping track a couple of days ago and I'll take today, for instance. He won 1 codestone, 2 space faerie cupcakes, 2 Flutters, a Gorunda the Wise (usually gets 3-4 of those), scroll of the dark nova, space faerie cereal, a koi plushie, water pizza, three bottled air faeries, and a worthless book, There were 7 battles where he won nothing. I switched from koi warrior to JA halfway through, btw. Then I go to train him and they want 6 codestones, Sigh.

So my question is does anyone here find fighting in the BD worthwhile? I mean is it just about the "fun" aspect? Because right now I'm just throwing NPs. away. Yes, I've used the FQ cookies to help with training but I don't want to do that too much because well, it's real money! :) The BD itself can be monotonous so the "fun" part is minimal for me.

My goals were to get him trained as high us as possible (just keep training everyday) and I've also been training my kougra and wanted to get her to and keep her around the 100 level. Any advice to make this even a little bit more profitable or should I forget it and just focus on making my pets "pretty"? lol..

The BD is definitely worthwhile. You can battle with super low stat pets and still get good items (I like the robot). If you're not interested in training your pet any further, you can still battle and sell the codestones/nerkmids/neggs/etc for nps.

I've been battling Jetsam Ace as well, and here lately I haven't been getting many good prizes from him either. If I don't get a Nerkmid within the first 4 or 5 battles, I stop battling him and go to the robot.

I don't have Koi Warrior to battle, so I can't say anything about him.

It is monotonous for me as well though, but I always battle the opponents I can knock out in one turn so it goes pretty quick.

It's definitely worthwhile to fight in the battledome. How long does it take to beat Jetsam Ace on the hardest setting? Do you have to heal at all? If you are getting one codestone (worth 2,500 or more) within two minutes, then you are already doing better than you would get on most games. Chances are that you will do better than that, as long as the Battledome isn't lagging.

I can finish up one battle every ten seconds, so all in all, it takes me less than five minutes to get all my prizes for one day. I freeze my opponent using abilities and use items that do a lot of damage, no defense. I fight the giant space fungus, and it takes two turns to beat him.

You might be finding that training is not profitable anymore. If so, don't worry about training, but do remember that training can help you in wars later on, which will be profitable for prizes.

Well, I have a battle pet mainly for big plot and war events on the site. And having a strong pet allows you to hit the top tier in those events which will in turn get you better prizes, avatars, and trophies... so yeah. I see the daily BD prizes as a bonus only. Besides, the prizes never existed until the new BD anyway.

Having a strong pet really just allows you to boast about something, or feel accomplished in some way... just like everything else on Neopets pretty much.

Maybe the S750 Kreludan Defender Robot? I think I battled him once but don't remember it. I'll have to give it a try though.

Well I appreciate all of your input and it is encouraging. eventually I'd like to try the site events but I feel that would come way on down the line since my pet isn't near ready for that.

He beats the JA within two rounds and no, he doesn't have to heal. When you say it like that ( If you are getting one codestone (worth 2,500 or more) within two minutes, then you are already doing better than you would get on most games), that kind of puts it into perspective. I also didn't know that the old BD did not give you any prizes for daily battling. Wow - I guess that there is one thing that people like about the new BD! lol... Hopefully I'm just going through a slump and they haven't decided to make it more difficult to get worthwhile prizes. My habi runs in the background almost all day now!

Lol... so true! Someone said to me the other day "oh - you have a power pet." And I thought - yeah, yeah, that's right - I do! :laughingsmiley:

Battling can be fun! And profitable. ;) Some opponents have some pretty nice rare prizes that can be sold for some decent NP. I've been battling Plumbeard on the Mighty difficulty, and you sometimes can win a Golden Compass from him. Not too shabby, right? ;)

I battle for fun, plots, plunder, and for info gathering.

If anyone is looking for Battle info on the 1-player opponents, I recommend the 1-player profile section of TDN's Battlepedia. Here's the link.

http://battlepedia.thedailyneopets.com/index.php/oneplayer/index/

See what HP your opponents start with, what weapons they can use, and what abilities they have, Remember, that a 1-player opponent can, and sometimes will, use their faerie abilities more than once per battle. Be careful. ;)

There are also many helpful articles in the Battlepedia they can be found here.

Good luck and happy battling! :)

Thanks, Aquamentis and you know, you're right.... btw - I didn't know about Plumpbeard until you mentioned him so I got him but there's no way I can fight him even on the easy level yet. You're peophin is extremely strong though and really pretty! I usually don't like eventide however with your custom, she looks great!

So after me coming here to sort of complain about my dry spell and woah-is-me-why-do-I-bother attitude, what does the BD do? It rewards me with not 1, not 2, not even 3 but 5 red codestones and 3 brown cs for battling the koi warrior today. Maybe I needed to vent to get the system on my side again? Anyway, I know today was very unusual but I guess the lesson for me is patience, grasshopper.

I don't really think of Plumbeard either. lol Except he owes me a Zed Codestone, him and Tekkitu, they're evil I tell ya! You try to be nice, only beat them up a little bit, and what do they give? Mostly junk. lol But every now and then something decent. I just want the Zeds they owe me. ;) Maybe it's just the opponents in the Island arena so far.... Or maybe they fed the Zeds to the volcano god? lol

Thanks! The customization interface runs kind of slow for me so I don't change my pet's clothes very often. He's been a very good peophin, and is now about double the stats he had during the Obelisk War. Can't wait to try him out in the next war/battle plot! :D I've worked on his training a LOT in the last year or so. The only real downside for training/battling with a peophin is that they tend to be weak against Fire. Or at least that was the Old BD. But, it would be JUST LIKE TNT to bring back the species weaknesses and resistances. They're also evil. ;) lol

Lastly, Congrats on getting the awesome codestones in a single day! :D Gotta love it when something like that happens. LOL

Which Robot do you mean exactly? I'm curious now :P

I believe Patrice mentioned it above, but in case you didn't see : the S750 Kreludan Defender Robot. He's SUPER easy to beat, and I usually get decent prizes from him. I've gotten quite a few armoured neggs as well, and they usually go for around 40-43k.

Really? I've NEVER gotten an armoured negg as a prize from him. How often does this happen?

Hmm it's definitely not every day. I also don't battle him consecutively, so I really couldn't say for sure! I've probably only won 3 in the past couple of months. But since the robot usually gives me good codestones anyway, an armoured negg is more of a bonus :)

I actually already had Koi Warrior and didn't know it so I battled him today. He gave me good codestones as well. I can't decide if I like Koi or the robot better.

According to our project (here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoF2iuJXFP8qdGt2Y2h6YzZIbXhWMGdLdHJUUUVaSEE&usp=drive_web) in red mode, there is a small chance (less than 6% due to not receiving a armoured negg in 15 days with the Robot on red, need more testing though) that you could get a Armoured Negg. Commander Garoo has around 1% chance of giving out a armoured negg, so since the robot is easier to beat, it is probably (but not certainly) less than 1%. Also according to our project, the expected value of fighting the robot in red is only 17k while Koi Warrior on orange has an expected value of about 45k.

Back on topic, I mostly battle in the BD for prizes, and maybe for that occasional skirmish. Training my pet for wars/plots and maybe bragging rights too.

I battle for the prizes I get a lot of NP that way, being premium helps because I can battle Giant space fungus and he throws out a nerkmid around once a day and also other high value prizes

It took a lot of training to get there and must have cost millions in training so now Im getting some of it back in prizes I suppose.

I started training after I realised I needed to be stronger in the war, now I am pretty much high enough to beat anything they throw at me or at least hold my own.

  • 2 months later...

I wasn't very interested in training until the Obelisk War. My BD had about 80hp and I couldn't get past Round 3. When the new beta BD came out, I started to battle because of the nps and prizes. I only battle 1-p though except to get the avatars.

If DoN I/II are ever fixed, I want to update my trophies. I also train so I can do better on the next War plot.

Someone mentioned getting Armoured Neggs from the Kreludan Robot, it has happened to me but it's rare.

Wow. Everyone is way past me in experience. I only started Battledome because of the Obelisk War. I had to start training and found how ridiculously expensive and difficult it is, so I only have a level of 50 (thank you Coltzan!) and 53 HP. As a long-time veteran of far too many RPGs to count (at least a few hundred), I'm baffled by the fact that you get no experience through battling. That's so counter-intuitive to me that I almost gave it up. I've persevered and though I'm no where even close to where Battledome can make me more than a few NP through codestone sales, I'm not too unhappy with it. I get enough codestones to make it worth my while.

My reason to continue playing Battledome, on and off, is for the codestones (I usually average 3 - 4 per night - my worst night was 0 and my best night ever was 9). My secondary reason is to get the last three of the Obelisk War avatars (Brute Squad, Thieves Guild, and Red Erisim.)

The rare times I train, I use dubloons from Coltzan or Anchor Management.

If you don't mind me asking, how old is your account on Neo? Just curious, because yeah, training does get expensive, long and tedious. Though the rare times you get a 1-3 extra points from a training session IS rather fun. ;) but those bonuses are very rare.

If you don't mind blowing some NP, try Kitchen Quests on Mystery Island. Every so often by completing one, you COULD get a random +1 to a random stat. Level, Hp, Strength, Speed, or Defense. Or, you might get a pittance of NP, under 1k as the prize, or you could get an item worth junk, or worth a decent amount. Again, very rare in my experience. With KQ's, I limit myself to about 5k, TOTAL, per quest. If you don't want to do a quest, just let time expire and try a new one. KQ's count towards your 10 (completed) quests per Neopian day.

I hope this is helpful. :)

I like to battle the famous Koi Warrior to gain codestones to sell for neopoints, and to support my daily training. I also like to collect the BD avatars if possible.

I'd also love a chance to battle the Ace Jetsam for some nerkmids, but I'll have to get premium to battle him.

My account is 7 years as of this past March. It took me most of 6 months just to really get around the place and learn what some of it was about. I discovered the NeoLodge and well... that put me on the path to being on NeoPets for only a couple of days a month. I was a terrible player for about three years, but because of my pet's name... I didn't have to heart to walk away. Suddenly, three years ago, I came back and got more involved than I ever had been before. I even added two more pets, tripling the commitment.

To be honest, I'm still finding my way around to a degree. I've never done a Kitchen Quest. Not once. Same thing with Key Quest. The two people I found here at TDN who were willing to take on a newbie are either on at the wrong time for me or haven't been around for getting close to three weeks now. So, I've given up on that. Battledome was something I only tried a few times before the big revamp. Like I said, it's only because of the Obelisk War that I gave it another try, which is when I started to train. I can only get onto Neo once a day, so multiple training sessions are out. Trainign was never really important to me because I honestly never thought I'd do BD. I'm more of the explorer type of gamer. A treasure seeker. Not so much a fighter. (Except for Fallout3/New Vegas, Skyrim, etc. Then I'm a sniper assassin. *evil snicker*)

Thanks for the advicce on the Kitchen Quest. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I can always let it expire if I think it's too expensive, right? How hard can it be? (There I go... jinxing myself again....) :)

Ah, well at 7 years old, (your account. ;) ) Then you kind of know about costs of things and such. I don't know if you buy NC at all. But sometimes there are Faerie Quest Fortune Cookies that the NC Mall stocks. They last for 7 days, 7 x 24 hours from when it's opened. And you literally can get ANY kind of faerie quest, once per day before time expires at the end of the 7th. Though if you forget one day, then that one day's quest is gone. In fact, I just checked the NC Mall to double-check the price, (100nc or $1) and there are about 114 in stock right now. Like any random faerie quest, you can't use the Shop Wiz, so going to the Faerie Quest help boards is your best bet if you use a cookie to help supplement your training. Also, there is a training fortune cookie in the NC Mall that will cut your training time I think between 30% and... Maybe 75%.... I haven't used one of those since the Obelisk War, so I forget the range.... lol And the price. Anyway, just some Neocash suggestions.

With Kitchen Quests, yes, you can let time expire without penalty if the items are too expensive. I probably said this before, but I try to limit myself to about 5k total for all requested items. Oh, and before you buy ANY items for the quest, I'd recommend doing multiple searches for the items first, to make certain of both individual item prices AND get an approximation of the total cost of all items combined.

As for Key Quest, I should really try that again... For a while, after one of many hiatuses a few years back, I was doing pretty ok in them. Except for the mini-games, others had WAY faster computers than my old one. So I usually lost those. I should give it a go again sometime though.... there might be some decent items I don't know about for prizes. Ah well, maybe after my animation project is done I'll take a break and try Key Quest again. XD

It's fun when you find a reason to stick around a place like Neopets. I come back for my pet, all the work I put into him, and my guild friends. And now of course, TDN. The staffers and members here are pretty awesome. :D Oh, AND the advent calendar. LOL Gotta love free awesomeness! LOL

Well, I hope this is helpful to you.

Best of luck!
