srahski
Noooo, I can't believe I was so stupid! I had a Baby PB on trades for 570k, someone offered 570 and I accepted without even thinking! So now I've just lost out on 569,430np because I was a bit stupid and didn't check everything properly :( :(
GlitteryCupcake
Oh no! I'm sorry, whether or not that's "a lot" of np for you, that still has to hurt.
Neomancer
Whoah that is quite a severe loss. Have you tried contacting the other person? Because this sounds a bit like trying to fool the other person into accepting, and that is not allowed. Emily
nbbug132
This is actually considered scamming by TNT and is a reportable offense. Crystalline and Spritzie
Neomancer
Time to make a few calls then :D Tho it could technically be an oversight by the buyer as well, maybe he/she did not know what 'k' meant and just offered 570.
andaraen
That's awful! I hope you can get something worked out with the buyer or TNT. 570K isn't something to sneeze at. :c
Finn the Human
This is actually considered scamming by TNT and is a reportable offense. Its not, I tried reporting someone. Its apparently called TP sniping.
Rebecca~
Yeah, unfortunately, this isn't a warnable offense at all. :( Just like when you misprice something in your shop, offering a small amount on a trade is perfectly allowable. What isn't allowed is badgering the seller and trying to convince them that their item is worth less than it is. I'm sorry this happened- it's always such a blow when you miss out on a whole bunch of NP like that, even if it's not a "lot" to you. :( EDIT: Whoops, apparently I read something either outdated, or completely wrong. Ignore me~
siniri
Ugh, I hope you remember the name of the buyer. At least put them on your "block" list so you can't get fooled by them again. Sorry this happened -- I think we've all made similar mistakes before.
emkatrine
If the buyer is a noble person they should honestly redo the trade. I would try contacting the person.
Angeló
you can and should report them to TNT .. this is considered scamming ...
Popular Post hrtbrk
This IS 100% considered scamming. It has been in the editorial many times. They tried to trick you, and it worked. You don't even need to recall their username if you do not have it. TNT will track them down through trading history if you report the instance. There is absolutely no such thing as "TP sniping" in these scenarios. That's just what scammers try to claim to make themselves feel better. The specific fact that they offered the exact number (570) without the few extra hundred thousand nps onto it, confirms it was them attempting to be malicious and "trick" her out of her requested bid, either by misreading the offer, or misclicking the request. That is, and will always be, against the rules. Well, once again I got scammed at the Trading Post... I asked 725k for a Honey Potion and I got 725 NP. I didn't pay attention and accepted it. I don't even remember the username so that I could report what happened or anything like that... you guys should really make a trading history or something for these kinds of things. *goes to vent on Punchbag Bob* ~wassabi_spiceOof, that stinks. We'll spare you the lecture about always doublechecking offers. Rest assured, you're not the only Neopian to have learned that lesson the hard way. Well, as someone once said, it's best to learn all those nasty tricks that scammers use on Neopets with Neopoints rather than in real life with real money. D: As for reporting the person, please do, even if you don't remember their username. While reporting the username is always helpful and appreciated, we should have no problem tracking down who it was even without that information. You have stated previously that intentionally cheating someone on the Trading Post (for example, they ask for 100,000 NP and you offer 10,000 NP) isn't allowed, but I was wondering if you could get in trouble for offering less than the Trading Post price for an item on a trade and that offer being accepted? Also, if you can, please explain what the difference is between that and Auction / Shop Wiz sniping? Please remove my username. ;D ~username removedThere's no problem at all with making an offer of whatever you like for a lot on the Trading Post, as long as you are not maliciously trying to trick or spam someone. In the case of your example, or the instance of offering a plushie version of something on their wishlist with the hope that they'll fall for it, that is what crosses the line into scamming, not making a lower offer in the hopes they will accept your bid on their lot. This, Auction, and Shop Wiz sniping are all fine as long as everything is on the up and up. Hey, TNT! Can you please confirm if this is a reportable offence? I've noticed users putting the item "Pirate Krawk Plushie" into auctions for over three million Neopoints, the approximate price for a "Magical Pirate Krawk Plushie." Is this considered scamming, since an unwitting Neopian might make a bid, only to realize that they spent two million Neopoints on a simple plushie? ): Thanks, and please remove my username. ~username removedIf they are purposefully attempting to trick someone for their own profit, then yes, it's scamming and you may report them. Is it allowed to make worthless bids on good items, with the intention that they might accidentally accept? ~swedelock_holmesUhh... no. Trying to bait someone into making a mistake that will greatly benefit yourself or your friends is a total scam. While it is the buyer's responsibility to be wary and know what they're getting into, someone who is intentionally being underhanded and misleading is just as liable. While the seller loses out on their Neopoints, the buyer will lose their account. Emily, tinyplasticdinos, Lamppost and 10 others
wakka9ca
Like hrtbrk said, this is 100% considered scamming. It will be good to contact the user first just to make sure that it's not an accident on their part (i.e. newbie who don't know the real price). I believe you might still have the event log? Duskitty
That's terrible! :( It IS considered scamming, as the two people before me said. Did you remember the person's u/n? Fingers crossed for you!
srahski
AHH!! I go to sleep and come back to all these lovely comments! Thanks guys! It's not "a lot" of NP to me, sure it was a great bonus to my bank account and I love getting a chunk of NP at once but it really was my own stupidity that did it, I know that you need to check over and over again just in case someone will try and get away with a tiny offer but after a long day at work I wasn't concentrating properly :( *sigh* I didin't think of reporting to TNT because I figured it was my own fault for accepting, but I will now that you guys have mentioned it and it's been in the editorials so much. Oh well, we'll see what comes of it. I can't seem to find their username atm but I'm hoping it's stored in my computer at home. Sadly I checked and it's a 3 day old account so I'm guessing the person knew what they were doing and just used another account to do it. BUT all is not lost! I logged on to neo this morning and a lovely person's gifted me a pb so thank you so much for that :D :D Lamppost, Mouseykins, karmacow and 6 others

Yeah I will report it once I work out who it was :P That's my biggest worry though, other people being scammed. Especially since this *is* a kids site (or was, there's such a mix of people now) and it's just supposed to be fun so I don't like the idea that people could be scamming younger people or people who don't expect to be scammed. srahski
Like hrtbrk said, you can report them without knowing their username, Oh yeah!! I'll definitely do that later tonight if I cen't find the name. I know I searched them so i'm hoping the un is still stuck in my history somewhere on my home computer. Thanks for all your help guys, and all your "ugh! sorry" comments, it cheered me up! I just felt so stupid yesterday coz I should know better, but I'm sure everyone's done it, in 10 years on neo I've probably done it a couple of times -_-

Koralis
I'm sorry you fell for that, people who do that are unacceptable. I have those kinds of people offering on my lots a lot and I get so annoyed. It's nice to know that's actually scamming and report-worthy now.
peabrain
I had someone offer 110NP on my 110k lab map piece once and I was just about to click accept when thankfully I realised! It's really strange how the brain just sees what it wants to see even though the number is a whole 3 digits shorter than it should be! I'm sorry that happened to you. Let us know how it goes, won't you?
MuffinDaemon13
Yeah, definitely something you can report, keep us updated for sure!! Also, one reason I think our brains sometimes "trick" us into seeing what we want is because we usually type something as 110k or 570k, not 110,000 etc, so when we see that 110 or 570 offer, it looks so similar to the way we shorten things in TP etc, that we just automatically make the connection to the number we were expecting. Annoying, but it happens... thankfully it is a reportable offense now :)
