flyingeevee Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Same here ^^ I grew up with the original ponies and toys and as I got older, I saw maybe one of the later episodes from the early 2000s and yeah...it really became more girly for even me. The new one that is out now (the 4th generation) really is different compared to the past ones and have gained more fans than I would think possible. Quote
Spritzie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 It's so weird to see the shows I used to love as a kid, making a bit of a come-back. Like Rainbow Brite and Care Bears. Quote
flyingeevee Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Can't blame them since creative ideas are running low. That's why we're getting more movies based on books, movie remakes, or "true events". I still like to watch cartoons every now and then if they interest me. Pokemon lost me after they went to a new region and then every other new cartoon are now rarely hand-drawn. Quote
Spritzie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I don't generally watch much of anything anymore. I like seeing books I've enjoyed made into movies though, as long as they don't screw it up, like they did with Clive Cussler's book Sahara. The casting was so horribly done. My mom got me reading one of her favorite series from Janet Evanovich (Well, more I got her the series to re-read after her surgery, and when she wasn't ready for them yet, I got bored and ended up reading them) and the first book was made into a movie recently. Her and I are going to have a movie night when it comes out on DVD. Remakes, I don't particularly like, especially if I love the first one. Quote
flyingeevee Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Haha I remember seeing Sahara. I didn't read the book but even the movie wasn't as interesting to me. I don't have the time to read just for fun as I would like and I just don't know which series to even get into. I do try to read fanfics since there are some talented writers in that department. Quote
Spritzie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I'd been reading Cussler's books for years before that. The main character from the book, played by Matthew McConaughey, that series, he's been writing since the 70s. So I think it was a huge letdown for long time readers of the series. His character, Dirk Pitt, is always described as pure black hair, bright green eyes, and buff, but not a skinny buff, but like a football player buff. And his "side-kick" in the books, was a burly Italian guy. I have no idea what they were thinking with the little redhead. o_O I read all the time. And as I'm always told, I read too fast. If it's a really good book, I can't put it down. I'll stay up until I finish it. On my days off work, I can read 1-2 full size books, in a day. Maybe more. I think I've probably read 7 books since I got off work for the week on Wednesday afternoon. Quote
-Ryan Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 On that subject - I'm re-reading the Eragon series, currently on Inheritance. Well i'd never read the first book, only seen the movie. And I thought the movie was good until I read the book and realized they completely changed the plot and cut out about 3quarters of the book. Quote
Spritzie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 They tend to do that with the change from books to movie. Movies based off John Grisham books generally turn out pretty good, but most of the others have had really big changes, or the casting was done badly. (Like a book where one of the characters was a male English butler type, they cast as Queen Latifah.) Quote
jumpingbeans Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I know, that's what I hate about movies - how they have to get rid of some stuff. That's why the book is almost always better. Quote
Spritzie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 It's nice to see how it would be done, when made into a movie. I usually keep an open mind, as long as it's not totally out there with what they did. But I agree, the books are nearly always better. Quote
flyingeevee Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Man...I remember reading Blood and Chocolate back when I was younger and was totally excited to hear a movie for it! Turned out they changed the WHOLE plot and even who the girl hooks up with the end D': Quote
Spritzie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I can understand certain things needing to be changed for whatever reason, but some things are just changed way too much and for no apparent reason. Quote
jumpingbeans Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 My parents are still mad about the Gone With the Wind film adaption; they keep complaining that it missed one of the best lines from the movie... Quote
Tyler. Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 sorry, my deaths are very frequent didn't gone with the wind come out in 193-something? that was most likely before your parents were even born I don't read much, it's pretty bad. (Like a book where one of the characters was a male English butler type, they cast as Queen Latifah.) um, did I read that right? Quote
Spritzie Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 :laughingsmiley: Unfortunately, yes. You did. The book was The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver. The main character was changed quite a bit as well, but at least stayed the same gender as in the book. Quote
jumpingbeans Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 sorry, my deaths are very frequent didn't gone with the wind come out in 193-something? that was most likely before your parents were even born I don't read much, it's pretty bad. um, did I read that right? Well, my mother and my grandmother. But yeah, it's a reallyold film. Quote
Naamah D. Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Yahoo! I'm gonna start my birthday wish list tomorrow! Woo!!!! Quote
jumpingbeans Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 When's your birthday? Mine's coming up soon - Star Wars Day. Quote
Naamah D. Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 My birthday is on June 9th. I beg to differ with Silent Hill fans who say it's scary. I think it's not scary at all. Maybe I have a low jump factor. Quote
jumpingbeans Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 ...I've never even heard of Silent Hill before. I'm guessing it's a horror movie... Quote
Tedhaun Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 ...I've never even heard of Silent Hill before. I'm guessing it's a horror movie... Actually, Silent Hill is a horror movie. For me and horror films, I never really watch too many of them these days, I never had the time to watch many movies these days. :( Quote
Rebeka Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Silent Hill is a bad horror movie. But I do like the video game. All that shooting and fighting. Oh how I miss the old times when I had time for such bizarre things :D Quote
jumpingbeans Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I don't much like horror movies. Or games like COD and MW3 and all them. I prefer Harry Potter and Mario. :D Quote
flyingeevee Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 The Silent Hill movie wasn't all that great and now with the news of ANOTHER SH movie coming out that has Heather (SH3's main character)...I don't know what to think :/ The Silent Hill series game-wise is really good though! It's more of a psychological horror and the main thing I love about them is that every monster represents something about the main character and that it's an experience. I love horror movies that are truly scary (ones that don't depend on jump scares). Quote
passiflora Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I love horror movies that are truly scary (ones that don't depend on jump scares). Know of any good ones?! I've yet to see a horror movie that's actually... well... horrifying. :P Quote
