  1. Our beans have a lot less sugar than US beans. I didn't understand why North Americans would urgh at beans on toast until I realised their versions of beans are very much sweeter.  I wouldn't want to eat sugary beans on toast either.

We are an Island, so we have a lot of traditional seafood dishes obviously.  Same as anywhere else really, we have a lot of regional variations on similar dishes. Sausages have been mentioned, there are many varieties and styles up and down the country and all are 'the best ones'. we call them 'sausages'...despite me being emphatically assured once by a North American that no, I was wrong...we call them 'bangers' :D . Jamie Oliver and London tourist pubs might call them bangers, but rarely anyone else.  Cheeses, we have hundreds of variations on regional and artisan cheeses. There are so many more cheeses than the boring (imo :D) cheddar. (and fun fact, the cheese rolling game on neopets is a real traditional event from back when there was no tv or internet hahaha). So yes, preserved meats, hams and the like. Same as most places in Europe but with different names.  Pies are traditionally popular, you can put anything in a pie. Pork, rabbit, venison, beef, fruit, cheese, mixture of the above, lol. I don't know how to do pictures or I would.  Honestly, I don't really know where to start with traditional foods, theres so much.

Steamed puddings are also traditional.  Yes, they are fattening stodge, and yes they are delicious.  When you are in the middle of a cold grey rainy winter a little bit of stodge with custard does you the power of good :D Treacle or syrup pudding are types, you've probably heard of Spotted D.ick because iit has a comedy name, but actually contains dried fruit like currants, it's good.  Sussex Pond pudding has a whole lemon in the centre, crazy but crazy good.  Or you can have savoury steamed puddings like steak.

I have observed that as well, which I agree is kind of weird since it seems like FEA is a pretty easy way to make a decent amount of np with very little effort? esp for anyone with SSW. It's right there on every pet's lookup... you are probably right about trophies being helpful in encouraging people to do jobs though :D

I would definitely take more interest in it if there was a trophy!

I just went and played it to remember why I don't bother playing it and I think it was because I can only take 3 jobs. I was just getting into it and I'm, BAM...done for the day.  Basic jobs, so only made a few thousand nps, minus the value of the items (all from my sdb) doesn't really seem worth it.  I'm sure it's very different playing with coupons but I just sell those when I get them..

Anyway, what I came onto the thread to say was, when you do your shop theme and design,  try not to have too much extraneous detail at the top of the shop. There is nothing worse when you are on a timed quest than clicking into a shop that has three miles of animated pictures, adverts, and text, and it slowing you down.  I know I'm not alone (when  I used to do timed quests) in clicking straight back out again and going somewhere else.  I'm not for a second suggesting that you would do that, just observing that themed shops can look great but aren't ALWAYS user-friendly so that's something to keep in mind.

  3. I thought after I posted that quote that, ironically, the person who says that line is a man dressed as a lady so it probably wasn't the best quote to choose haha.

I'm quite at a loss when choosing skirmish sides since charity corner.  I chose awakened because it has randomised boons so I might find something more useful to me than what the other factions are offering.  I don't tend to fight skirmish battles until I've maxed on the koi, because I don't really like the skirmish arenas prize pool.

Sadly, I only fought three plot challengers because I couldn't get past the rotating chest lock from hell after that, so I was locked out of participating much further in the plot.

I think I'm one of the few weirdos who actually LIKE how wind turbines look, lol. I don't find the sleek lines an eye sore and they're cool to watch. I'd maybe not feel so nonchalant about them if one was going to be built next to my admittedly hypothetical back garden, that could well awaken a hitherto slumbering NIMBY gene, but until that day I've got no problem with 'em.

    1

Got to admit I'm a little biased. I've know/met more than one person who's got them in their back garden. As in, their families have been ekeing a living for centuries off not very productive hill farms because the land was what they could get rather than the rich peoples valuable lowland arable land, until the day when someone decides that land has a value to them after all and slaps a compulsory purchase order on it.

I don't think there'll be a majority for the AC, I think the majority of us make a more personal choice for this contest and tend to stick with it though thick or thin. So we're not gonna be much help to you there, lol.

    1

Yeah, I agree. It's more like supporting a sports team than choosing a temporary and everchanging obelisk skirmish side. You support your team because reasons.

  6. I donated thousands of things...right before charity corner started. I didn't even know that was a thing back then. lol, winning at life ?

Good luck with your shop.  As for any jobs Ive taken, no I haven't used a job coupon. I just sell them. so ive only done low values and there was never any problem getting those  jobs.

  7. We have lots of those ones near the middle, the white one with the three sails, in windfarms. We call those ones wind turbines though. Not that popular with a lot of people because they're eyesores especially since they seem to like to put them in scenic areas.   I've never seen the other sort apart from in pictures and in films!

  8. I don't mind the rain, we have lots of agriculture and it's kinda handy when things will grow :D  It's being relentlessly sunny recently though which the animals are enjoying but me not so much.

Yeah there're stereotypes about all of us I suppose, and they wouldn't be stereotypes if they were particularly flattering. They don't even need to be true, but people think they are because...stereotype lol! (for the record, I don't speak like the Queen OR D.ick Van Dyke being a cheeky cockney chimney sweep, my teeth are fine thank you very much, and I don't like cricket. The tea thing is completely true though hahaha).

  9. I bet it is, São Paulo is a massive city! What's it like living there?

I'm not a big city person but they're great to visit, I know some people love the big city craziness though :D

(edit: sorry, or do you mean the state not the city?)

  10. Lincolnshire is soooo flat :D

That station is very similar in style to the closest train station to here, and the next one a couple of miles down the track is a one-story greystone with the postcard worthy window boxes and flower planters, a different style but the same 'feel' about it. I agree the Victorians did make pretty buildings.

@MouseykinsI am not worried about the mom. She was giving just as much as she was taking. She had quite the potty mouth on her. I don't know that there was an actual police report filed since there was no violence. The police officer was just stopping to have a quick chat. He was not dispatched to the situation. I technically did not call 911 since the phone never connected.

I hope that in the future the couple will be able to become actual parents, not just some people who have a kid. There is a difference.

Would it be possible for you to lodge an official report or complaint now, after the fact?  I don't know, it may be useful down the line to document that there have been prior problems with this couple and their baby. I know I would feel happier if it happened to me if I'd made official channels aware of the problem.

And honestly, I know you are beating yourself up right now, but I think it was the right thing to do not to take the baby from the man in the street right there and then in the heat of the moment when they were obviously arguing about the baby. I think there would have been a strong chance or one or both of the parents turning up at your door in a few days bringing trouble for your own family.

  12. Ah Rayd, when I personally say Football, I mean our football, not American Football. We just call it football here in Europe, rather than soccer, on the whole.  I've only seen clips of American football on tv, it looks like quite a fun thing to go to watch, quite an extravaganza.  And the tailgating thing looks fun.  I'm not really into following or  watching sports though, on the whole.

Hello Jellysundae, fellow Briton...waves....yes, it's nice and sunny and warm and the birds are singing. I'm inside because it's giving me a headache lol!  My mothers dog is sunbathing and refuses to come indoors.

Got to be fair to the real football fans, it's only the bad element that are newsworthy and they aren't there for the game anyway.

  13. A milkmaid is literally a young woman who works in a milking parlour, what they used to be called anyway. I don't know if there's a new term for them or what.  I live in Great Britain, specifically I live in England.  Don't give a monkeys about the royal wedding and don't 100% get why its a big deal.  We still have some windmills over here and some of them even still work, although many are now converted into really inconveniently laid-out houses lol.  And we have clogs too, in the North anyway, I remember watching them being hand made in a place that used to be a few miles up the road from where I used to live. I don't know if anyone actually wears them though.  They're supposed to be comfy I hear.

It's okay where I live, the scenery anyway.  There is lots of green i.e arable land, pasture, woodland, moorland, and we are quite near the coast.  So that's nice. Lot's of castles and stuff. From ruined to lived in. Lot's of wildlife around my area like foxes, badgers, different types of deer, rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs, weasels, the usual suspects. I saw an otter once but thats rare. Lots of wild birds I don't know the name of, but I've seen owls, woodpeckers, herons and kingfishers, theyre really pretty. (theres also plenty of pheasants and game birds around but they aren't really wild I suppose).  And bats, I like watching the bats. There's plenty of wildlife and we aren't all that far from a city.  I don't know anything about how many people are here or their genetic makeup tbh, as there are several universities in the county which means frequent massive fluctuations in pop. numbers and makeup.

We have a chunk of pasture and woodland and have some horses, breed a few, sell a few.  I used to be mad keen into horse showing, but my favourite filly died and my ambition died with her really.  I had my sights on the Horse of the Year show with her, but my hearts not really in it anymore although we've still got some really nice horses.  I don't know what else to write, I wrote more and somehow lost a chunk.

The going crazy often doesn't involve hugging, as much as it does riots and vandalism. (I mean, most fans are probaly normal, but these kinds of stories aren't exactly rare either.)

Yeah, same.  i think many countries have problems with people who pretend to be fans but for whom its really about the fighting not the football. They are an embarrassment to their countries and clubs and  give real football fans a bad name.

  14. Go with whatever team takes your fancy, imo.  It's not all about being on the 'winning team' for me, it's about supporting my team and having a good time with my team mates on the chatboards.  Honestly, I wouldnt try too hard to figure out which team will come in first just to be on the winning side because the results are out of my control, shall we say.

I chose the team which most appealed to me my first year and I stick with that team, but some people go with whatever team takes their fancy on a given year.

  15. I thought we had another day too, I don't always read the news or I'd probably have known I didn't. I had a vague plan of finding a mouse and playing the ones I couldn't do on a track pad and arrow keys some time before the last day but best laid plans and all that. I'm not so good at the games. lol.

  16. I blocked it because it was annoying and stretching my page out.  I wonder if only a few people selected that perk, or if TNT realised it was just irritating people and got rid. I've got spare CC points left too.

    Said just about everyone.

I wonder how much of an impact the bank and stocks perks have had on the amount of people fighting the Obelisk battles now. If a significant percentage are no longer picking to try for those boons then that's surely going to skew the results.

    1

Yeah, good point.  I'm still fighting the obelisk battles, but I got both the bank and stock perks so my usual faction choosing criteria are gone.

There aren't really many boons left of interest to me. I don't restock, takes more commitment than I'm willing to give it, so I looked at the boons available for the 3 selected factions and chose the faction with the multi wheel-spin boon this time.

  18. I've never bought any NC but I've had my card stopped twice when I've bought multiple books for my ereader and I'm like, can you not!  Complete hassle to get a new card when all I'm doing is getting a few books. I daren't buy more than one book now, lol.

I just know it would be the same if I bought NC!

"I wonder if it could be because it's an overseas site I'm giving money to?"

Could be but if so that's daft, people buy things from all over the world nowadays with the click of a button, it's not unusual.
