The concept of giving different chores or less chores to children based on their gender is completely alien to me. My brother and I grew up on a farm, and we were given the same tasks, whether it was stacking wood or cleaning the bathroom. I honestly can't understand why anyone would do it differently. It's not like the Y chromosome disables the ability to use a broom.

She wasn't saying there wasn't stereotyping before. She was saying that she didn't like media stereotyping.

I agree. Just because you or people you know don't think it's offensive, that doesn't mean it's true for everyone. You don't speak for everyone, you speak for yourself. To say that something can't be offensive because you don't think it is, is silly. It seems like people who are saying that it's not offensive because it doesn't offend them are completely ignoring the people who think it is. 'Oh, there are people who think it's offensive? Well I don't think it's offensive, so it's not offensive."

Yes, but a lot of the stereotypes come from before tv and movies. Especially for Rromani.

Stereotyping is the whole point of why a lot of the g*psy stuff on the site irks people, Rromani descent or not. I mean, the g*psy village? Really?

If I had a dollar for every time I heard a stereotype against any of my identities I would be a hugely rich man and could probably buy Neopets itself and change things people wanted changed quickly and nicely. ;p

The entertainment industry certainly harms a fair number of people.

As a side note (and this isn't really directed at anyone it's just a sidenote), there is this irritating thought process some people have that where if some people don't find something offensive, then it isn't offensive. It's totally possible for a group of people to be divided on what is offensive or not. I think this is important to remember. Everyone has their own thoughts and feelings on words and how they are used. I am offended by a number of words that other people who are in my ethnicity or other identity don't find offense over. Which is perfectly fine. But to say 'but so-and-so is okay with it' is doing nothing but derailing the whole thing. I have seen so many people use 'i have ___ friends' to defend their offensive speech it's ridiculous.

I know my brother doesn't like the use of the word g*psy but I will not and have not said all Rromani should feel the same way as he does. Not all of them do. Same as not everyone dislikes the term 'ukey' being used against Ukrainians.

I'm not suggesting we all rise up and petition. But if we know those who are Rromani and are bothered by it, I see no reason why we shouldn't at least send in a ticket on their behalf. My brother no longer plays Neopets, so I'd be sending in a ticket on his behalf these days.

Hit twelve million in the bank! My RL has kept me extremely busy and I haven't had much time for neopets lately, so it's nice that even the little amount of time I've been able to be on neopets lately still contributes to my goals.

I just completed Hannah and the Kreludor Caves! I was originally planning to go for a trophy until I saw the high scores. :nerd: That last level was so finicky and frustrating that finally beating it counts as an achievement for me.

Bottom line is, all kids have a ton of energy to spare. And saying that only half of them are able to adequately express it is wrong.

In my house, the cooking is evenly split between parents. When they first got married, my dad was usually the one to cook, because my mom knew how to make peanut butter and jelly and cereal. My dad is a chef, and my mom is a baker.

Saying that women should only do the chores is like saying that a women's place is in the kitchen, and the terrible classic 'cool, go make me a sandwich.' :sick01: (which, sometimes I feel the only correct response is 'cool, go fix my car'.)

The Knowledge and Extravagance wheels are the specific wheels that can give out job coupons. To be honest, though, I would recommend sticking to the basic jobs that don't require coupons - the cheapest ones (aside from any you might get once in a blue moon from the Wheel of Knowledge) cost about 60k, and the rewards for super jobs are usually much less than that.

All these years and I've NEVER gotten a job coupon from the Wheel of Knowledge. It's beyond frustrating. Most of the time I get the darned "?", which gives some silly little hint about one thing or another. EVEN a "did you know" that states that job coupons can be gotten via the Wheel of Knowledge. :P

Anyway, yeah, you're MUCH better off buying/trading for coupons, if you really want one, or just doing like Slavecrown suggested, and just doing the basic jobs. I've only done basic jobs myself. 1,825 so far. Which SOUNDS like a lot, but if you check the top 100 for basic jobs? Some of them have nearly and OVER 20,000 jobs completed! Which means they've done jobs just about every day, for OVER 12 years! (Or at least their number 1 Employee has!)

Basic jobs are a decent way to make NP depending on the market and how much certain items sell for in user shops. Just make sure to avoid the basic jobs with a 1 minute time limit. Those are hard to finish in time and you won't get a good time bonus payout for doing it quickly. The 4 jobs I've failed on were 1 minute jobs, when I first found the Basic Jobs.

    Best of luck!

Okay, so either I'm not fully understanding the point you're trying to make, or you you didn't fully understand mine (or possibly both). My last line referred to the fact that holding a door open for someone coming in behind you is simple common courtesy, and yet several times that I've done it for a man they've snapped at me and reacted as if I was implying they weren't men. If in fact you did understand this and you were taking issue with me holding a door open, then I honestly have no idea where you're coming from.

As for the first part of your post: yes, there are people who call themselves feminists who can be jerks, or have really strange ideas about what feminism means. This is true of of any group, though, including geeks, psychologists*, and even neopets users - (if you substitute feminism out for whatever that group is centered around, obviously :laughingsmiley: ). Writing off an entire rights movement because a small but vocal minority of them are jerks does a disservice not only to women, but to men who 1) want to take up traditionally 'feminine' careers or hobbies without being harassed or thought less of, 2) are victims of female (and often male) violence who'd rather receive help than scorn, or 3) want a fair chance of getting decent custody of their children instead of watching sole custody go to the mother just because women are assumed to be more nurturing than men. There are other benefits for men, obviously, but the point is that feminism does help both men and women, and if you cant see that then you should do some research on the movement that you're dismissing.

*I'm tired. These were the first groups that popped into my head that weren't absurd like badgers or hot dog eating contestants.

See, I find this was of thinking very hurtful (although, I do understand you weren't personally trying to cause offence to people)
because sometimes I'm very masculine/tomboyish, and sometimes I can feel really girly (it's like people forget that women are multifaceted human beings that can have a range of tastes) But no matter how I'm feeling on a certain day, sexist jokes always hurt me.

My University, and particularly my course, is majority guys, the majority of my lecturers are guys too. Even when I'm being masculine and *one of the guys* with them, it can be horrid when one of them uses sexism to alienate me and hurt me. And I can sometimes feel resentful for being womanly then, but the truth is, it's not me being a girl that is to blame, it's men thinking that can use that as a weakness and exploit it to make me uncomfortable and get an upper hand.

Anyway, feminism is there to protect women & fight for them, if you don't need fighting for - that's fine, good for you - but don't forget that there are thousands of women who are vulnerable. And it's not just because they are women, they might have a different financial background to you, or race, or live in a different country which is more dangerous.

So I support feminism, not just for myself, but also for those who need it more than me,

If I remember right, your pet has to play with a toy about six times for its mood to raise a level. Usually I just get a cheap toy and hit f5 and enter in the item window after I click 'submit' for about twenty seconds, then repeat if my pet isn't delighted yet. I'm not sure the neolodge actually changes a pet's mood - my battle pet's been back in the lodge for a week and its mood is still just "Happy", and that seems to be the case whenever I put them in there if they aren'r already delighted. Maybe it just maintains their current mood level (barring random events)?

Exactly. It's not feminists I hear making snide, condescending comments when I'm changing a tire on my car, moving heavy objects, or simply holding the door open for a man (because apparently common courtesy is threatening to their masculinity?).

I don't mean to sound rude, but the reason you're can freely be so masculine and tomboyish is because of feminism. Feminism has nothing to do with being womanly and everything to do with being able to be your true self. Sexism can impact all women, regardless of how feminine or masculine their personality is.
