Hi @GillyTook, so you're still using this same set as before? I would say that Illusens Staff might not be AS useful for you as it would for a pet with higher HP. But it could still save you under the right circumstances, especially if you participate in the upcoming battle-plot that TNT is planning. Since some opponents will probably be at your strength level or higher.

Illusens Staff can also be obtained from completing the last of the 50 Illusen Glade quests. But this way is probably much cheaper to obtain it. 😉  Damage-wise, it's 13 earth icons and about 0.5-6 physical icons. So a maximum damage of 19 icons. Your Sword of Malum is stronger than this. However, it also blocks all dark. Also, if you receive both light AND dark icons at the same time. If I recall correctly, it should reflect 75% of the dark damage. You will still take light and 25% of the dark damage though.

Lastly, and probably it's most useful ability. If your pet falls below 20% of it's max health in battle, it will heal your pet by 20% of max health. This can keep you in the battle much longer than otherwise. So, if your HP falls below 27 HP, it will heal you 27.8 HP. Which is 20% of your ixi's current max health. This is a multi-use weapon. I've never had one before, so I can't say I know exactly how it works. But I think it should heal you each time your HP gets below 20%.

That being said, I joined Illusen's team to get it myself. For power I would've preferred Wand of the Dark Faerie, but Illusen's staff isn't bad at all.  In fact it cuts Wand of the Dark Faerie's attack down quite a lot from what I've read about both weapons.

On a side note, if you get it and don't like it, you can always sell it. Current pricing on the TP is around 200-225 million NP.

Overall, it's got more attack icons than Hanso Charisma Charm, which also blocks 100% dark, it also can reflect sometimes, and it can heal you. So it's definitely a weapon you'd want to consider hanging on to. 😉

I hope that helps. 🙂

Hi! I was wondering if you would mind giving me/us your opinion/thoughts on   Illusens Staff that is part of the prize shop?  I went to JN and I am not always sure what they are saying about a weapon maybe because of the way they break down the explanation. I really don't know why but what I do know is when I read something you say about a weapon I can usually understand what you are saying. I feel like when I read their explanation they are going in circles, giving the run a round so to speak. So, if you do have a minute maybe you can express your thoughts? I do not know if I need this weapon because I am a 1 player BD person and would only see myself using it in a plot situation and not 1 player battles. If you have time to give your thoughts I would very much appreciate it. Please and thank you.

Well Granny, thanks. That's a nice compliment. 🙂  Going by JN's profile of the weapon, Illusens Staff can do a minimum of 13.6 icons and a maximum of 19. TNT loves to throw weapons out there with Fractional and variable attack icons. It's annoying when you try testing weapons, believe me!
So on JN's profile they say the mean (average icons) is 16.3 so the damage it does will roughly average 16.3 icons provided they all get through to the opponent.

Now this part, might be more of what confuses you.

1. The user blocks all dark.
2. If dark is blocked, and there is unblocked light damage (lets say there is x light) :
2a. The light makes copy of itself into dark (now there is x light and x dark).
2b. The user receives 100% of the light and 25% of the dark, and reflects the 75% of dark.

For #1, that means that if you're attacked with dark icons, it will block all the dark icons. However, if #2 happens, that changes.

For #2 the way I understand it. Is that if you receive dark and light icon damage, and you don't block all of the light. Then the light makes a copy of itself but is turned into dark icons. The user, you, will receive the damage from the light icons and 25% of the dark, but reflect 75% of the dark. Whether this means 75% of the total dark, (darkness from the attack AND darkness from the light-copy that became dark) I don't know. Because I've never used it before.

TNT DOES like to make things incredibly confusing like this sometimes.

Whether you need it or not is up to you. The 20% heal when your pet goes below 20% MAX HP would be useful, and it doesn't interfere with your regular healing item. Though if you're going to use both this and your healing item. I don't know if it would work, but I would put Illusen's staff in slot 1, and your healer in Slot 2. This is something else I'd like to test when I get hold of an illusen staff for myself.

It sells for quite a bit, 200mil on the TP right now. So, if you got it and didn't like it, you could always sell it for a massive profit since you'd have gotten it for donating stuff.

@Aquamentis12  So if I do get the points for it, what would you suggest I drop from the lineup to be able to use it?

Fiendish key could easily be replaced. There are other weapons that could go too, but I believe I mentioned those the first time you posted about your set. However you want to battle is up to you after all. 😉

Depending on what you're donating, you should be able to get enough points for it. Ironically, items from Jhudora's quests work well for donations since they are usually r130s. Items like Poisonous Lollypops, Malice Potions, Caustic Potions, Purple Blob Potions, Dark Faerie Magic books and Noxious Nectars, are all r130. The prices on these items has been skyrocketing though. Good luck!

OK hearing from you it does make a little more sense and yes the part you thought might be confusing to me was an understatement! It is somewhat clearer, clear enough that I do not believe I will need this weapon. Since I replaced the weapons I had with the weapons you have suggested I am doing quite well during battles. With Snowager and the Fungus (on hard, same as before) it takes 1 hit to knock out either opponent. . If I do get the weapon before you do or for some reason you don't you're welcome to use mine as a test weapon. I do know what it cost and have no interest in buying one for that reason alone. Thanks for taking the time to explain what the JN rating was all about.

Ok cool. If you'd rather spend your recycling points on other prizes that's fine. I just thought I would mention it's value on the TP because it probably has the best value of any items in either prize shop if you wanted to sell it.
But that's fine, I'm glad I could help clear things up for you with JN's profile on the weapon. 🙂

How consistently do they sell?  I mean, it's SUCH a high value item that I'd get my bank account to well over what I had wanted to start reading books consistently at.  I'd also likely be able to get some cheaper weapons that are as good, right?

I don't know, but I just checked the TP and the Auctions, and people are selling them dirt-cheap now. In auction some are going for only a little over 10mil. It's insane! From what I can gather, some people might be using their side accounts to get multiples of Illusens staff. Ugh, which destroys the balance and the point of having such a "rare" item in a prize pool. So, I don't think it'd be such a great investment any longer. Since it'll be awhile before they are worth triple-digit millions again. 😞

I just got an Illusens Staff for myself from the prize shop. It's an interesting weapon. It seems healers go first in the BD, even if you place your healer in Slot 2 for the battle round. So you can't use it's healing power before you use your healer. Unless your healing item doesn't take you above 20% of your max HP. Haven't tried out it's darkness block/reflective ability yet.

Do you know anything about the weapon(s?  I'm sure Jhudora's side got one too?) awarded for finishing the plot?  Or are things like the hip blade (assuming that is a weapon) from the prize shop worth anything?  Still trying to improve, but also am still wondering how to budget the points I get since I'd like too many prizes to just get 2 of the staves, equip one, and keep the other to sell when the price goes back up.

Did you get the  Glaive of Verdancy and the Illusens Staff? If not I am offering to let you use these for testing purposes.  I don't intend to add them to my weapons at this point so they can be loaned if needed.

For some reason I did not. 😞 I only got the particles and the woodland mortog. Sure Granny, thanks! I would appreciate the lend for testing purposes!

I don't know, though they probably have similar stats since they are final prizes.
The hip blade, if I recall, is weak, like only 6 icons maybe... Illusen's Silver Shield, while I don't know it's NP value off the top of my head, if I'm remembering correctly blocks all Earth and a few dark icons.

The shield would be worth considering if you ever go up against someone with massive earth icons in their arsenal. I haven't fully decided what I'm going to spend the remainder of my prize points on. I could get a 2nd Illusens Staff and an Illusens Silver Shield, but I'm not sure yet if those would be wise investments or not.

@GillyTook and @granny63020 First off, thanks Granny for sending me the Glaive for testing.

It looks like it does 8 icons in attack. 5 Earth and 3 Air, and blocks 5 dark icons. A pretty sub-par weapon compared to some of the others that TNT has released recently. Gillytook, now you know what the Glaive does. I wish it were a better weapon, but then I'd be even more inclined to buy one since I somehow did not earn one of my own. lol 😉

I'll be sending the glaive back to you shortly, Granny. Thank you again for the lend. If you'd like, I can credit you on the page for lending the Glaive for testing. 🙂

Is it worth replacing one of my other crummy old weapons with, though?  Especially if I got a staff and replaced a second with that?  Of course I STILL tend to be a coward and go for fights I can win in one round, so I'm still sort of just working on one-round-kill sets.

I'm hopeless 😂

On no, that is not necessary! I am glad I had it to loan. Your th tester so just use your name.  Oh, and thanks, I appreciate the offer.

LOL Well...... not really, though if you wanted a dual duty weapon that also takes a chunk of dark icons out of an opponents weapon, you COULD maybe use it then. Though a Hanso Charisma Charm or Illusens Staff both block full dark and have more attack power. Illusens Staff moreso than Hanso's Charisma Charm. 😉 I saw some people trying to trade the Glaive for an Illusens Staff a little earlier today. You might get lucky and get one for the glaive, due to the fact that not everyone got one. I personally don't think what some people are asking for their glaives, but that's the market for you. Not everyone will agree with the common pricing. 😉 You might also just mount it in your gallery because it does look pretty cool. 😉

Ok Granny. Thanks again for the lend. It's no problem. I don't often get weapon-lends so it's only proper to offer a credit for lending.  🙂 I'll just update the entry and make sure it says that it doesn't need testing any longer. Thanks again. 🙂

I thought I put all of the items you suggested into my equipment but I either missed something or I just put to many items into my SDB either way I'm missing something This is a screen shot of current and what I had before we started is in a previous post that I posted originally. Hope you can help. Please and thank you.

Hmmmm unfortunately right now I don't have time to go back and reread our exchanges to find it, but I THINK it MIGHT be a Thick Smoke Bomb. You can buy them from player shops or from the Secret Ninja Training School. They are 1-use, but block ALL damage on the turn they are used. I THINK I suggested that to you. I'm expecting a phone call any moment, or I'd go back and reread what I said the last time you asked for advice. Otherwise, your set looks pretty good since, if I'm remembering correctly, you battle opponents you can usually finish off with one turn. If you need some more specific defense items during the battle plot, whenever that starts, we can tackle that at that time. Since right now nobody knows what the battle plot opponents will be like or what their arsenals will be.
If that's NOT it though, the Thick Smoke Bomb I mean, I can go back and look over what I suggested to you a bit later this evening.

Okay.  SO!  If a weapon does icons in some random stat (light, dark, whatever) does that mean only opponents weak to that are hurt, that they have to block it separately/can be less effective if it's say light vs. a light enemy, or is it just a different way of doing the same thing?  I think that's one of the things still confusing me.

Hi Gillytook, sorry I didn't se your post until just now. To answer your question, nope! In the original battledome pets had some weaknesses and resistances to certain types of icons though. Like Peophins, for example, if I recall correctly had a 15% weakness to fire icons. Kaus, on the other hand, had a BUNCH of icon types they were resistant to. I forget what Kaus were weak against, maybe nothing. Peophins had some water and earth resistance too, but I don't recall by how much. The OLD in-depth battlepedia, what later merged with JN to form their battle dept, I believe used to have a page about that. But that was when they were their own battlepedia only site, separate from JN.

The only effect icon types have in battle now, are what icons can get past which pieces of equipment that can defend damage. Against all pets now, without defending, a 10 icon weapon like Scroll of Scholar, will do the same damage as a 10 icon Ramtors Spellbook, even though they have different icon sets, when wielded by the same pet.

It's a confusing system to get used to. It made no sense to me when I first started, and I had quite a lot of experience playing different video games with different setups for equipment and stats before I started playing Neopets. i had never before, or since, come across such a ... unique battle system. Yes, I'll go with unique. 😉

It's fine!  So I only need to look at the number of icons, and don't need to worry about defence much since I only do the 1 player BD?

Edit:  Also, though I'd miss some other prizes, would it be worth it at all to get a second Illusen's staff for a weapon, or just overkill when I could likely find something better?  It didn't seem to do too much more damage than the other ones I've got did.

Well, you have to worry about defense if you go after opponents stronger than you. If you can't beat them in 1 turn, since you only have Lens Flare and no other freezer.

As for your weapons, I went through and looked at each one of them, and their specific stats. Most you could swap out for other items, Or leave those slots blank if you wanted.

Let's look at your multiple-use weapons first.

Yooyu Knuckle Duster  14
7 Physical 7 Light

Fiendish Key 11-16
5 Fire 5 Light 1-6 Physical

Shining Celesta Sword 9-13
6-10 Light 3 Physical
Defense 3 dark

Winged Palm Blade 11-16
5 Fire 5 Light 1-6 Physical

Reflecting Vanities 11-16
5 Fire 5 Light 1-6 Physical

Sword of Malum  16.5-22
5-6 Earth 5 Fire 5 Light .5-6 Physical

Sword of Malum is clearly your strongest of these. The rest are pretty weak. If you paired Sword of Malum with 1 Illusens Staff. That would be a stronger combination for you as Illusens Staff is a 14-19 icon weapon, that defends all dark and when your HP is below 20% it heals you for 20%.

It sounds like you bought 1 Illusens Staff already, right? Then I think you should look at prices of other prizes whether you want to keep them or sell them and then decide what to spend your prize shop points on. Buying a 2nd Illusens Staff won't really help you much in battle, you can't stack the healing because one staff would heal you for 20% first before the other did, thus only one would activate it's healing effect. Also, when you use your healing item in the same turn you use Illusens Staff, the Healing Item Goes FIRST. So if that takes you above 20% of your max HP, Illusens Staff will not heal you that turn. I tried it myself.

I bought 1 Illusens Staff, and I have enough points to buy a 2nd and maybe something else. I don't know what I'll do with my remaining points, YET. But I plan on doing some price-checking first, see what would be a good investment. 😉

As for your other items..

Thistleberry Pingrenade 13-24 (once per battle)
9-16 Earth 4-8 Physical
It's max damage is only slightly higher than Sword of Malum's, and it's only once per battle. You might consider this on your opening move combined with Sword of Malum and Lens Flare. If this combo doesn't take out your opponent, it would still cause a decent bit of damage. Though as Bombs go, Ghoskterbomb is still the best regular bomb, at a possible maximum of 30 icons of damage. Though it 7-8mil it's still rather steep in price. i forget the exact damage of Jhudoras Potion, it's a bomb, and I believe it's almost as strong as Ghostkerbomb, but I don't know it's current price off-hand. Just a suggestion that should be a bit cheaper.

Though you may choose not to have a bomb either. That's also an option.

Onto your last item.

Oasis Tonic 35hp heal
From what I saw on the SSW, it runs about 290,000np. Pretty bad price for healing only 35hp. Like with Granny, I would suggest a Feel Better Soup. It's a little less than double the cost of your Oasis Tonic, at about 440,000np. Heals 50% of max HP once per battle, and during that turn will also block 100% of Air icons. Which may or may not help you. But if you had a Feel Better Soup, you would be set for your healing item for a VERY long time. If you didn't get one for free from the Advent Calendar you'll still get a bit off when you consider how much you can sell your Oasis Tonic for, it would be like getting the feel better soup for less than half the normal price then. 😉

Another item you might consider, Roxton's Trusty Bowie Knife. 15 icons and blocks 75% of Earth damage. It's at least buyable, I don't know the current price, but the last time I looked was about 560,000np. Though you might have one, I believe it was handed out in last year's Advent Calendar.

I'll suggest one more item, as a novelty. The Heavy Robe of Thievery. You can't use it yet. Because your agility needs to be 201, though you do meet the intelligence requirement for it. That being said, if you got your agility to 201, the Robe would allow you to steal a random item from your opponent. Stealing currently does NOT work in the BD. It used to, but then it broke somehow. Hopefully it will be back for the upcoming battle plot.

Like I said, I'm mentioning it as a novelty. 😉

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. 🙂
