Google Chrome, Flash and Neopets

Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere but wanted to share this tip that some users might find helpful.

As you may have discovered a while back, an update to Google Chrome's browser changed the settings so sites (like Neopets) that you enabled Flash for are no longer saved. Every time you exit/quit you have to re-enable flash again which can be a tedious process.

To keep Flash enabled:

Type chrome://flags/ into your URL bar

Scroll down to "Enable Ephemeral Flash Permissions" and set it to Disabled

Restart browser, Flash should stay enabled once you enable it with the (i) in the URL bar.

Other methods to try and enable flash are play Test Your Strength

http://www.neopets.com/halloween/strtest/index.phtml

or visit The Lair of the Beast

http://www.neopets.com/prehistoric/thebeast4.phtml

Clicking either should ask you if you want to enable flash

FYI, Chrome just released version 71 (4 Dec 2018). With 71, Google removed the "Enable Ephemeral Flash Permissions" flag, so this no longer works, as it isn't available. You will now have to re-enable Flash every time you close and re-open Chrome. Only alternatives are to use a different browser, don't update Chrome (not recommended), or install an earlier version of Chrome (not recommended, either).

i did this to stop Chrome from updating automatically like it usually does

  1. Open the Run prompt. ...
  2. Once it opens, type msconfig and hit Enter.
  3. In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab.
  4. You'll want to look for the two following items: Google Update Service (gupdate) and Google Update Service (gupdatem). ...
  5. Uncheck both Google items and click OK.
