Error when using Chrome

I keep getting an error when on Neopets (and only Neopets) when using Chrome.  It says something about a missing Microsoft Kernel and a Trojan horse.  I have Virus protector.  The error almost looks fake, it's not coming from my virus protector.  Has anyone else been experiencing this lately?

Do you have adblock? It is likely a fake warning to get you to download something malicious and it usually comes from an ad. Try turning on Adblock Plus (a chrome extension) and see if the warning still persists.

Of course you should always do a scan on your computer just to be extra safe :)

I was using Safari, two days ago, on Neopets, and I had a pop-up window stating there was a problem with my Windows installation and I might have a virus, and to call a "1-866" number for help or contact a Microsoft Service Center, and to try not to fix the problem myself or close my browser. The pop-up was not from my anti-virus software, but was another Safari window. Do not phone any number. It is a fake and a scam. I believe it came from one of the ads on Neopets. Malwarebytes has an article here: https://blog.malwarebytes.org/fraud-scam/2014/11/psa-tech-support-scams-pop-ups-on-the-rise/and here: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-tech-support-scam-popups/. I closed Safari and then cleared my cache/cookies. Please do as hrtbrk mentioned, by running a full scan. You never know. I did. Although it took a while, I felt better when it came up clean. I never had to do it before, but I'm sure Neopets has a way or would like "bad" advertisements to be reported. Unfortunately, it popped up while I was playing a game and was not able to see who the advertisement was from. Good catch on recognizing that the message did not seem to come from your anti-virus software and for asking!

To expand on what Scoobert_Doo said:

If the malicious add is coming from Neopets it is a very good idea to report the add to them so they can get it taken off and dealt with. To report the add go and submit a ticket to TNT through their help site, and if you can't get that to load you can submit a very detailed email to them at [email protected]

Also if you get an add like that from our site send a ticket in. At the bottom of every page there's a "contact us" link. We try and check the tickets a few times a day.

Scoobert,  I too use Safari and had the EXACT same message a couple of days ago as well.  Although mine seemed to be a combination of the two messages as mine also said something about a Trojan horse.  But it gave me a number to call and said not to close my browser and blah blah blah, just like yours.  Of course I did, and ran a scan and everything was fine.  But I seem to have a lot of problems and it all, sadly, relates to neopets.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but are you still having problems? Yesterday, Firefox kept crashing. After Firefox restarted, I noticed it said it was "updating", which is normal, as I have Firefox to automatically update and version 41 was released. However, Firefox kept crashing. I then switched to Safari, and noticed it kept "locking up/freezing" - crashing, of sorts. The only thing in common with the two browsers, I could think of, is Adobe Flash. Firefox and Safari use the same Flash plugin and I noticed Flash had an update too, to 19.0.0.185. Long story short, I think Flash is the problem. So, if you are still having problems, are you using Adobe Flash v19.0.0.185? I think I'm going to try to "downgrade" to the last version of Flash (18.0.0.232) and see if the crashes stop. If I misunderstood your last sentence, then I do agree, as I have seen a few "questionable" ads from Neopets before, and my apologies.

Yes, I am having a lot of problems with freezing, which I was also having before I got that message.  However, I only have the problem with the freezing while playing neopets.  I also have an issue where I constantly have to re-log in to neopets.  I get worried at times that I am going to be redirected to a fake log in site, but I am careful to read the URL before logging in.  To answer your question, Yes, I am using Adobe flash version 19.0.0.185.  I never considered it to be the issue, but I suppose it could be.  I too felt it could have been the ads on neopets, but using ad blocker seemed to be worse.  IDK.  I think I will reset my computer to factory settings and see how that goes.

Thank you for letting me know. I, finally, broke down and installed AdBlock for Safari and AdBlock Plus for Firefox. Do not seem to have the problems, now. I think it was Flash.

Those messages asking you to pay or call a number are scams with malware/viruses embedded into them. If you're still experiencing problems rather then just running an anti-virus scan, a malware scan would be beneficial too.
