lovedwallflower
Would you rather have your neopoints in one sum in the bank, or in ETS items in the SDB? Which do you think is safer?
sumtingwong
If youre not doing anything to illegal or illegitimately acquiring said money/items i dont think it will make a difference if it is going to be banked or put in SDB as far as being safe goes.. I put ETS items i find useful or think will be easy to trade towards an item i need into SDB and leave till needed otherwise everything else gets sold because i want my bank so full of neopoints that i can take a dive and swim through scrooge style lovedwallflower
Rune Valentine
I don't see the point of keeping a bunch of ETS items unless I want to purchase something very expensive. I like seeing my bank interest go up, and it makes it a lot harder to pull out all of my NP should someone get into my account. That being said, I still have a few lab map sets, piles of codestones, a couple of PBs, nerkmids, Draik MPs stocked up so I do have a fallback in case I do splurge on something, I don't spend everything. Or if my account is compromised, it'd be very hard to get all of those stuff out all at once. Lamppost
Ali Cat
I think it depends on the items. Overall, I'd rather have pure because it makes life simpler. Investing in items can result in a gain (or loss!) if the value of the item changes a few years down the road, making it a bit more of a gamble. If you want to buy something below 20 mil, most people prefer pure anyway so the items you invested in just need to be sold again. I'm not sure either is safer, really. If an account is compromised, anything that can be moved (neopoints or items) will be moved by the hacker.
Shelley
I always sell everything I ever get than I can make a profit off of. I just really enjoy seeing pure in my bank. And the interest is a plus. I also don't trust the fluctuation of pricing as time goes by on ETS items
.Brianna.
I don't like having a ton of stuff in my SDB so I definitely prefer pure, but I can definitely see why some people enjoy hanging onto ETS as well...
Avia loves Chias
i like getting interest on my liquid assets, and like shelley said, sometimes item prices change and you lose money if you hold onto something for too long. i generally tend to keep retired items in my sdb and sell anything expensive. bradsmaroo
I'm kind of on the fence with that one...several years ago I had things like "Meowclops" and the "MSPP" card...and was able to sell them on the shop wizard...I missed out on the inflation. So I made a quick buck...obviously less than 99,999 np on each, at some point...can't believe how much the MSPP card is now. When I sold them they were ETS... but I wish I would have sat on them to sell now, Hindsight...I guess it depends on how hurting you are for neopoints in order to achieve a goal. It is kind of fun to check items in my SDB that I know I've had for 10 years that were super cheap/free from advent calendar only to find that they are 50k on the shop wizard now. lovedwallflower
I'm not sure either is safer, really. If an account is compromised, anything that can be moved (neopoints or items) will be moved by the hacker. The flip side is that you can use that to your advantage: invest in ETS and transfer them to a side. That way if your main is compromised, you have something to rebuild with. That's true, but I'd personally have the practical issue of being too lazy to keep that up long-term even if it would be much safer xD It's more convenient for me to have what I need a few clicks away rather than have to log into different accounts. My thoughts on this topic in general are all seeming to boil down to preferring what takes the least time, like having pure in the bank or ETS items on your main. 010_pipsy_010
I personally prefer pure neopoints because I like seeing my bank interest rise! On the other hand, I keep some ETS items such as codestones, PBs and Map pieces in my SDB for when I want to buy something expensive like a different PB or rare stamps/cards. slavecrown
I definitely to keep my neopoints purely in the bank, that way I don't have to worry about deflation or miscalculating how much an ETS item is worth. If I want to buy something worth more than 800k, I usually just neomail the seller to set up an auction. As for whihc is safer, I don't think it makes much difference to people who steal accounts whether they're stealing a bunch of ready to send items or converting NP into items that they're going to send - it all ends up being stolen. Use a pin for both your SDB and bank account to prevent hackers from getting your stuff, that's the safe option.
missuninvited
I like pure because I can collect bank interest, but I do wish that I had enough NP to start building some more "material" wealth (like map sets, etc.) in my SDB just because it's nice to know that even if something happens to your NP (like a trip to Kauvara's magic shop, for instance - hehe), you still have that chunk sitting in your SDB waiting to bail you out. Most ETS items exhibit some fluctuation over time but with the amount that you're investing you aren't going to be gaining or losing a massive amount unless something REALLY weird happens to the Neopian economy. slavecrown
