I get it .. some people are "good writers" .. but do TNT have to pick the same entrants EVERY WEEK ? the same names just repeat themselves .. especially in the CC and the Poetry contests ... it's like .. they get picked without the judge looking at the entry ... even if their caption is really lame (and most of the time it is .. looking at the low number of votes they keep getting) ... Saxen was picked for the first time last week and she won first place .. because her caption was awesome ... so ... TNT .. give other people a chance ...

/rant over ....

I put in a CC this week, but I didn't get picked. I do not usually vote, unless I see someone on here ask for votes (like you or Saxen).

But I was excited for Saxen last week and so I put my own in this week, hoping, but I was not chosen.

I do not see the names that are normally chosen, but if they are the same, that kind of stinks for the rest of us trying.

I know that feeling... *sigh* Once again, I didn't get chosen... I don't understand how the weirdest ones always get picked! (No offense to anyone out there) I mean, some really deserve to win! I don't know if TNT is even really trying anymore. I really wish I'd get picked at least ONCE, even if I don't get any votes. At least I made it, right? I just submitted a Poetry entry, but I doubt I'd get chosen anyway. I'm still hoping for that one miracle though... ;)

Aww thank you Angelo :*

I agree, though. It's the same ... *counts* ... nine people I see in the CC every week, and a couple of those are always in the poetry contest. I know it's not the case with what TNT said about the AC ("they enter so much that we can't handle all the entries so they get put in a lot"), because these people use the Charter boards, and post on a particular board. About three of those have said they only posted a couple in the CC this week, and that they didn't think they were very good.

I'm just going to keep spamming the CC/Poetry contest until I get in again.

I made it in this week...and I have been lucky the past few times as well.

I put in LOTS of entries each week, not just one or two, so maybe it is just a matter of 'odds'. I dunno.

I do think it is just luck (or odds) because I don't know of any reason anyone from TNT would be inclined to give me any sort of special consideration.

I only put the HARD push on asking (begging? heh) for votes when I think there is a chance I might hit the Gold tier (because it shows up as a trophy X#). I think I have posted here thrice seeking votes...and two times was able to hit Gold (and TDN peeps are AWESOME, btw, with helping out when asked). Otherwise I just keep a board running on Charter and bump it up throughout the contest.

I do like seeing how everyone rallies around someone if they put the word out that it is their first time in the CC. Lots of the votes they end up getting are actually from other folks currently in the same contest.

So, yah, full circle...I dunno how TNT chooses the captions, or why they have been choosing mine, but I don't think that anyone from TNT has any particular interest in ME or in giving me any sort of advantage. (tbh, it would be kinda weird if they did)

Just keep plugging in entries...the more the better, imo.

Good luck!

Not denying they are skilled people at all, Ruto, but it is entirely possible that TNT have favourites for certain competitions. They're people after all not robots! XP

Ruto .. I've won several times myself .. I AM skilled ... but if you read what Saxen wrote : About three of those have said they only posted a couple in the CC this week, and that they didn't think they were very good.

I personally submitted about 10 captions these week ... here's one of them :

Meerca : I can't believe I have to wear a floater again.

Korbat : Yeah , 'cuz that should be your major concern right now.

Funny or not ? you judge :D

I should say Angelo that this was on... friday, maybe? So they probably did enter more. Even so though, I do see the same faces every week, and I am convinced that TNT has favourites. It's only natural when you think about it - people who have been entering for years are going to be on their radar, they're going to have seen their captions many times before, and if you read something someone wrote and become familiar with them through that and like them, you're generally going to find what they say funnier because of it.

According to the NT editorial, TNT doesn't even bother looking at the usernames. I know if I were writing a program to let me look through as many submissions as possible in as short a time as possible, I'd probably have just the actual submissions (with their descriptions for the relevant contests, I suppose), with checkboxes next to each, in rows down the page. And I'd check any that I found more amusing/creative/artistic/whatever for a set amount of time, and then I'd click a button that would show me only the ones I'd checked, from which I'd narrow it down to the final count. And then the script would publish those submissions appropriately (with the usernames added back in).

For the caption contest in particular, they get so many entries that they don't even read them all; therefore, the time that you submit your caption can increase its chances of being read. My friend told me that she asked others who'd gotten in when they submitted, and the consensus seemed to be late Friday evenings (she aimed for midnight NST, which is early Saturday morning her time). After I started submitting on late Friday evenings (only until 9pm NST for me, since I'm on the East Coast), I've already gotten two captions selected after years of not being picked.

So I think it's a combination of skill (or having a similar sense of humor to the judges) and timing.

Excellent! I'll keep that in mind... I've never been selected for the CC, and one time I even asked TNT in the editorial if they banned people who submitted too many entries (I was afraid they might have done that to me because I always send several entries every week, haha - I don't spam though, they're all different entries).

Hopefully with this timing thing I'll have a better chance now... I'm no caption genius, but I do believe my entries are somewhat good, at least if you compare them to most of the selected ones. Or maybe they aren't, and I'm actually delusional. lol. #plottwist

Anyway, I'll keep trying!

All Submissions have to be in by Late Friday night. Any submitted after the entries have gone up for voting are not eligible. So, submitting entries over a weekend is not going to get you selected.

The new image usually goes up on Tuesday afternoon. You have from that point until sometime late Friday until MAYBE the wee hours Saturday to get your entries submitted. I try to have all of mine submitted by 9pm EST (6pm Neo-time) Friday night.

The list of entries that can be voted upon are usually posted between 3am and 9am EST (midnight and 6am Neo-time) Saturday morning.

Even though there is still a box to enter captions...after voting has been opened it is a waste of time to continue sending captions.

I don't know why they don't remove the option to enter once voting has begun. They should have something like "Voting has begun for this week's Caption Contest, please try next week when a new image is available!" beneath the image instead of the text box.

Just my 4 1/2 cents worth.

Good luck!
