What are your essential items?

So, I saw a topic like this from a few years ago and I thought it would be interesting to hear what your "essential items" are. This means, the items that you must have with you wherever you go.

In my pencil case (school stuff), my essential items are:

-iPod (even though they're not allowed during class, I use it during recess)

-Lip balm

-Scientific calculator

-At most, two pencils (personal use, no lending)

-At most, two pens (personal use, no lending)

-Highlighter (personal use, no lending)

-At least one stick of gum

-Money (sometimes, the amount is never more than $2 though)

-Cell phone (also not allowed during class, but it's turned off during school hours)

And in my purse, I always have:

-Money (usually at least $20, kept in a wallet)

-Stop & Shop and Starbucks cards (also kept in a wallet- I never use either of those though xD)

-Mini notebook and blue BIC pen

-iPod

-Cell phone

-At least one bandaid

-Hair elastic

-Mini flashlight

-Lip gloss

Also, I might have my house and mail keys with me or a pair of sunglasses outside of my purse. I don't keep a pair of sunglasses in my purse because there wouldn't be enough room for other items if I put my sunglasses in there. :/

My purse doubles as my school bag, as I live extremely close to campus and I rarely have more than 2 back to back classes, so I never need to have many books with me. Always have:

-Keys (our door locks automatically)

-Wallet (ID, money, store cards, cheques, birth certificate, passport. Probably not always necessary, but it's easier to just to keep it all in one place)

-Phone

-iPod (always in pocket)

-lip balm and a tinted gloss

-multiple hair elastics

-a few pens

-sunglasses

-gum

-small notepad

-usually a magazine or something in case there's some down time

I never thought about carrying bandaids. Probably not a bad idea.

Seems like these days I cannot survive without my smartphone, it has everything on it from my grocery list to me being able to check my bank accounts. Little scary it is. x__x

But aside from the phone my purse always has;

Wallet

Drivers Licence/Student ID/Debit Card/Insurance Cards

Any random gift cards I may have at the moment

Tylenol & IB Profin (yes, both xP)

Chap stick

Coin purse (must have, wallet is tiny and I HATE loose coins in my purse)

Hand Sanitizer

Headphones for the phone

Pen

When I have hair (aka: the half of the year when I haven't cut it short and it's long) I've always got a couple of hair ties

I've always got a blanket, flashlight, sunglasses, and proof of insurance in my car.

I try to travel light; usually, that's just wallet, keys, and chapstick (in my pockets) -- oh, and a jacket, even in summer (I get cold very easily). I usually have a knee brace, too (I have patellar tendinitis, so I need it if I have to walk far or its hilly). If it might rain, I like to have an umbrella.

If I'm going to be out for a while, I may bring a bag with a pen and notebook, reading material, water, food, and a folded-up plastic bag. Spare socks if it might rain and I'm going to be outside a significant amount of time. If I'll be exercising and far from home, I'll bring a cooler with ice for my knee (so I can ice it as soon as I'm done; I can strap the ice on with an ace bandage and ice while I drive).

In my car, I always have a local map, emergency cell phone, paper towels (for checking the oil/cleaning the windows if needed), CD's, and an umbrella in the passenger cabin, and a spare tire, jack, jumper cables, mini tool kit, a quart of engine oil, reusable shopping bags, and a blanket in the trunk.

Oh thanks, the Kindle is awesome! I defiantly recommend getting one! I just got it a few weeks ago for a graduation present and it has quickly became one of my essential items! It is super light, easy to read, and I can bring tons of books wherever I go instead of just choosing one!
