    Aww, Lev! *hugs*

The vast majority of funerals take place at eleven, so everyone is ready for lunch after. The funeral I went to a few weeks ago, they took too long at the cemetery, so we ended up leaving before they got there. That was kind of sad, because there was a meatloaf and pies and cookies and cake...xP

After the office manager's service, they went to a local restaurant. I think it might have been pay-for-your own, which is highly unusual. My dad and I got dinner from Wendy's instead and took it home. Yummy. :)

As a general respect to people mourning their deceased loved ones, I will stop for funeral processions. Although I doubt the deceased really cares and I wouldn't give a hoot if anyone had a funeral procession for me, let alone stop for one.

I think people really complicate death and make it into something far more depressing than it needs to be, but hey, whatever is your cup of tea. I don't see a point in mourning the inevitable.

A funeral procession consists of cars going to the cemetery. The lead car is always the coach (what others call the hearse), followed by the limo and any cars belonging to family members that aren't riding in the limo. After that, it's first come, first in line--you drop your window when you pull in and tell the funeral assistant who greets you whether you'll be going to the cemetery. If you go, you'll be given a magnetic flag to put on your hood--it's orange with a black cross in the center and the cross reads "funeral"--and you go park in the line-up. If you don't go, there will be more assistants to direct you into parking spaces.

After the funeral (or rather, after everyone stops talking and gets into their cars), everyone will turn their lights on, the funeral assistants will step out into the street with giant stops signs for cross traffic and everyone will head to the cemetery. Depending on where the cemetery is and how many people there are in the procession, the line can grow quite big. (I remember one procession where the girl had committed suicide...the assistants triple parked us and it seemed like the line went forever.) When you get to the cemetery, the assistants will take the flags back and you can go to the luncheon or go home as it pleases you.

Etiquette dictates that you are to treat a funeral procession like an emergency vehicle: pull over and wait for them to pass (or stand at the crosswalk and wait, even if the walk light is on, as I learned). If you see them on the freeway, let them pass you...don't get in a hurry. Once, I got stuck at a stoplight because a procession was on its way through...in that case, you just sit there at the intersection until they're gone and proceed as normal.

Sometimes (but rarely do they do it), the family can pay extra and swap the luncheon and the cemetery. My dad did that when my grandma died, except being an employee, that was his "discount"--he didn't have to pay extra. In that case, we had the funeral mass, went to the church hall for food and then got into our vehicles and rode to the cemetery. (My dad and I rode with my aunt and uncle...nice to have the company.)

When the funeral home's last office manager passed away, the body was present for the funeral, but since she was going to be cremated, there was no procession. In that instance, we all filed out in back of the funeral home, watched as the casket was loaded into the coach and listened as the officiant said a few more things. The door was shut and the coach took off like it was going somewhere...but in reality, they just circle around the block (or a few blocks) until everyone takes off. At that point, they'll move the casket into one of the vans and take off for the crematorium. (My dad didn't get that run because he wasn't officially on duty...that and I would've been stuck in the office for the 90 minutes or so it takes to get there and back, since I wouldn't want to have gone.)

My draik is dressed up as daenerys from Game of Thrones :D ...I couldn't help but think that wig was designed with game of thrones in mind lol... although, unlike neopets, Game of Thrones is NOT for children

but yeah, customizing my male faerie lenny has been difficult XP lol I wanted to dress him more masculine, but I don't see why boys can't wear skirts! :)

I recently studied gender and clothing in one of my classes, very interesting. But yes we discussed how in the real world, women have so many more options lol (and there's such a variety of styles to choose from-dresses for example and accessories)

oh and the majority of neopian players are female (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neopets) The large amount of "feminine" clothing probably results in the demand from users who frequent the NC mall...They have to appeal to the audience who's buying

    Morning all,

is it just me or is there limited choice for Male pet's when it comes to customisation ?

Looking through the NC mail at the super packs, there is only a limited ammount, or looking through other bits and pieces. I've missed a few of the morphing NC items that would look cool on my Grarrl, but a dress and a girly wig doesnt give off the impression of i'm male and look at my lazer sword and guy stuff !!

So, I just LOVE getting to know interesting habits from different areas of the world and I thought we could share them here! :)

As there are many Americans, you can also talk about something more regional, like from your State or county or whatever! It just has to be something curious and interesting :D

    I'm gonna start:

Some of you will probably know that us Brazilians are very warm and love hugging and stuff, even when meeting strangers. But the amount of pecks on the cheeks varies from area to area. Here in Rio, where I live, it's two pecks (one on each cheek). In São Paulo, however, it's just one. There are also other areas of the country where they give you three pecks! Also, some elderly people (mostly women) will give you three pecks on the cheek, regardless of the State you're in, saying that "the third peck is for you to marry" [as in, get a nice husband and marriage :laughingsmiley: ]

After Leverhelven's post about crazy things we used to believe when we were younger, I thought about odd things we do right now. (Or not so odd, but we never would've thought we'd do it when we were younger.)

My thing right now is looking up words--even slurs--to see where they come from. The one slur I couldn't figure out was the "w-word" (and I don't mean another name for a prostitute). It turns out that it comes from the belief that Mexican immigrants swim across the Rio Grande to get here, thus they have...well, I'm sure you can figure it out.

Something odd is the way place names (or even regular names) are pronounced differently in different places. Like in the States, Toledo is "Toe-lead-oh", but in Spain, it would be "Toe-lay-doh". In Australia, it's "Mel-burn", but in Florida, it's "Mel-born". Or (and this is the one that got me thinking of people names) "Genevieve" is "Jen-ih-veev" in many places, but in Francophone parlance, it's "Zhon-vee-ev". (I have a hard time transliterating the French j, so I usually put in a Z.)

And then there are words that we pronounce with extra letters that just aren't there! I'm sure that's from the fact that English steals words from other languages. Like "patio" versus "ratio". "Patio" is pronounced as it looks, but "ratio" has an S sound. What's up with that?! (I had a cousin who laughed at me when I was little for purposely mispronouncing a street name that has that in it, but I agree with my younger self: "There's no S in it!") Or how everyone pronounces "Cambridge" like there's two i's. *facepalm*

5 things TDNF may not know about me:

    1. I raise buffalo, deer, and lots of veggies on my property. I hope to convince the boy to let me have pheasants or chickens and a honey bee farm as well eventually.
    2. I am very much so covered in tattoos, on both legs, an arm, and my neck
    3. I went to school for journalism and have anchored on webcasts, DJ'd on the radio, and run a radio station as a GM
    4. During my time as GM, I convinced the FCC to change licensure rules, which is basically unheard of
    5. I listen to a lot of Swedish Death Metal, Folk Metal, and Doom Metal, which are all very different from each other

@nubisbully - Yeah, I do actually. I take a women's multivitamin every day that make up the vitamins and minerals my diet may lack, but I still have to have ice all around me. Might as well become Elsa while I'm at it, lol. I'm not anemic and my doc says there isn't any deficiencies that were present in my bloodwork. It could also just be my water element taking over since I drink ridiculous amounts of water all the time. I'm uncomfortably, unnaturally hot all the time, and it could just be my body's defense mecanism to keep myself hydrated and cool. :)

The problem I see with that is that TNT has already assigned sizes/weights to each of the pets and I don't have any reason to give that they might get the imperative to change them.

I'm cnidophobic and didn't stop crying about having bloodwork until I was twenty-five! The only thing that makes it tolerable now is a butterfly needle (smallest gauge...hardly hurts), the "lay-back chair" and the promise of a juice box at the end. ^_^ Sadly, I still have to put up with a standard needle for an IV...I doubt they'd agree to the butterfly for that. :P

That being said, I can't give blood or plasma--I'd freak out! (I still have a memory of my first draw...I swear to this day that they took a small volume bag instead of vials!) It's a shame, too...my friend gives plasma as often as possible and gets $40 a pop. I hear some places give $200 at a time!

I actually have an entire list of what animals the neopets are like. I used to have it all on a petpage, but I think that account was frozen...or I pounded the relevant pet.

On that same list, I've also started noting what I think the average height for each pet would be, as I don't believe they'd be as tiny as TNT would think (if they were real). I don't have that entire list done; but from what I have, the buzz would be the smallest at one foot (still too big for a stingie! YIKES!) and the largest would be the chomby, standing in at 6.75 feet. (My notes say that stegosauruses were up to nine feet tall, but I think a chomby would be a smaller and cuter species.) I imagine when I finish the list, grarrls will be the biggest, as Google tells me tyrannosauruses were fifteen to twenty feet tall.

Bck32808 started a topic about where our offline pets got their names and said we could talk about our Neopets, too, but I thought it would be better to start a separate thread, rather than get off track with the original.

    ===

    Main

Empress of the Night: one of those pets where you want a really cool sounding name. I think "Queen of the Night" was already taken. :P

Lord Koschei: I'm not really into Doctor Who (despite having BBC-A now), but I briefly had a crush on Julia Roberts's brother, who is the only American to have played The Master. Wiki mentions a possible name for The Master as "Koschei", who was an antagonist in Slavic folklore. Koschei by itself was taken, so I added "lord" on the front. I think I originally meant to have him look as evil as possible, but after crosspainting him shadow, I thought he looked pretty cool with some of his "hatching clothes" intact. I also like the Lost Desert wings a lot better than his natural wings, so that's why he has them. ^_^

    Primary Side

Isis-Andraste: I had an FFQ and needed a good name for a Desert pet, so that's what I chose. For those of you who don't know, Isis is an Egyptian mother goddess and Andraste was a war goddess invoked by Boudica.

Beloved Greg and Darling Dominic: as you know, I have quite the crush on Greg Hicks. ;) | My crush on Dominic West has been touch-and-go since Burton and Taylor (for which I watched solely to see Greg!), but apparently I decided he'd make a terrific gelert. So there we go. :D

Everwind Heart: another "cool name". I've tried variations on "otter" in different languages, but I don't think I've been as satisfied with any names as this.

    Secondary Side

Ostara's Bunny: honestly, I don't know why I have a cybunny. I was going to get one because of my best friend/heartmom, but she and I broke up early last month...yet I still got one. Ostara is the Pagan celebration of spring and that's where the "Easter bunny" comes from. In goddess form, Ostara is usually referred to as Eostre, but I like "Ostara's Bunny" a lot better. My poem "Lady in Green" even has Ostara using Boudica's famous bunny divination, saying something like, "If he runs left, six more weeks of winter...if he runs right, spring will soon come."

Mark Harmon: my favorite NCIS actor! I wanted him without the hypen, but Mr. No-Hyphenate is on an abandoned account some Lindsay Lohan fan created after seeing Freaky Friday. I don't necessarily think Mark/Gibbs would make a good skeith...more that I like the fact that skeiths eat everything and he needed a good name. :D
