A lot of the guests come here via google, as we tend to explain and discuss a lot of things, both Neopets related and not. Trust me, the boards are VERY active. The guest-to-online count is really a very poor indicator of the activity level of any forums.

Wow the chains have been a tain wreck this month and there's still about a week till they're all complete. o.o I blame the fact that literally every chain we have is running this month.

I know I usually don't reply to those NMs from you guys thanking me for all I do with the chains, but I really do appericate them. And I'd naturally like to thank everyone in the chains this month for not freaking out over the mess and just rolling with the changes I'm having to make as we go to keep things organized. TDN has the best chainers ever.

I'm currently running Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop. With Pidgin, Thunderbird, and Firefox with 18 tabs open, including Habi, my two cores are sitting at ~35% and ~25% usage, respectively, and a temperature of ~55°C. If I switch tabs to Habi, my core temps increase about 10°C within a couple minutes, and CPU usage climbs to >70% for both cores.

(While it's uncomfortable to have your laptop running that hot, they are built to handle it, and operating temperatures should not be compared to those of a desktop PC. My temperatures regularly exceed 70°C when playing an FPS.)

Habitarium is a horrible CPU hog, like many other Flash games. (Flash video, on the other hand, uses GPU to run, so you don't notice the same effect while watching Youtube). The sooner Flash gets replaced by HTML5, the better, in my opinion.

Things this game teaches impressionable young children: Want to rob a bank? It's easy, even if you're a notoriously wanted thief! All you have to do is get a group of criminals all come in through different entrances, and security can only deal with one at once!

I have a separate wireless keyboard at home, so I'm going to use THAT. I taped the letters around the ones used in the game to avoid pressing them. Since it's already tricky to play it right without a number pad.

Sorry about that. I appear to have swallowed a bug. ....EWWWW.

And it's no wonder; the number of invading insects on Roo Island has increased more than ten-fold, taking us to a total nearing half a million bugs! It would appear that Roo Island will soon be completely flooded with this purple rain.

    ANYWAY.

Bugs aren't the only weird things flying around, and potentially into people's mouths, today! With the release of TNT's newest challenge, Sophie's Stew, gamers everywhere will be bouncing goodness-knows-what into a glowing cauldron containing a savoury dish of a more than questionable nature. Or into the mouth of her waiting Meowclops.

At least today's score is easy to achieve - you should be able to achieve it on only level 1.

As mentioned on the guide, play on hard and get all the items except for one. Purposely die. You'll re-start on level 1 but will keep all your previous points!! Just make sure you only go one direction and you should be safe!

Xepha reacted to enwhyyou in Tips for beating AAA in Gwyl's Great Escape (makes it a lot easier)
I hate this game and my previous high score for this game was 55 (of course once you discover you hate a game, you almost immediately stop trying). But after playing awhile, I got the hang of it. However, it took me 4 times of beating AAA's score to successfully send the score (due to unfortunate circumstances that happened one after another, it felt like the universe was playing a joke with me). Anyway, on the fourth run through the game, I discovered something that should be helpful to anyone who is struggling to meet the required score.

    I made a board on it: http://www.neopets.c...50543346&next=1

    I'll summarize:
    1. Beat the bonus round (bonus code gwylsgreatestescapeever) and levels 1 and 2, with enough life to last you to level 3
    2. At the last gem at lvl 3 (where you zigzag down), sacrifice your first life.
    3. When you respawn, go immediately to the platform for a time bonus that will boost your score tremendously.
*Remember to land directly on the middle of the platform for a x3 time bonus. At this point, you should have at least 800+ points

People have been having problems getting past the later levels due to glitches. With this, you don't need to play as many levels to get the required score. I beat AAA's score when I was in lvl 4, and never encountered the platform glitch.

    Day 3

Welcome back to The Daily Neopets’ exclusive coverage of the 2012 Daily Dare. This is Emily reporting live from inside the Games Room. We were lucky enough to receive a message from Lulu early this morning. Unfortunately, she has still not been able to get in touch with King Roo and, last we heard, she was feeling a little motion sick from too many rides on the Roo Island Carousel. All the best goes out to Lulu and we hope she comes back soon.

Moving on to today’s challenge, it looks like AAA may have some tricks up his sleeve. His score of 1,547 in Destruct-O-Match III is going to be a tough one to beat. Of course, Abigail has been busy tinkering with her Bit of Evil Clown, something about trying to make it bake cookies, so she only manged a score of 983, reassuring those who’s game skills got a little rusty after the Games Master Challenge earlier this year.

What’s that...? Oh, Jerry the Pteri would like me to remind all of you that you have until this Sunday, March 11 at 11:59:59 NST to complete your Team Challenge in order to qualify for the prize this week. You may want to remind your partner as well to make sure your team scores get in on time!

Our resident parasite specialist has also asked me to inform our viewers of an unusual infestation of the game room. Purple creatures have been seen sneaking around the new games machinery and, reportedly, giving out prizes when clicked. I am told there is no reason for alarm at this time.

Well, I think it’s time I head off myself to start working on AAA’s Destruct-O-Match III challenge. Good luck to everyone today. Play hard, be safe, and until tomorrow, this is The Daily Neopets wishing you good night and good luck.

Xepha reacted to Emily in (When) Do you think new Habi levels will be announced?
Well, after the fiasco of cheaters running through levels, it's evident that TNT has at least programmed levels up to 100. Before anything has a chance of being released, They probably want to fix all current glitches and make sure everything is 100% stable before introducing new levels (and undoubtedly, new problems). Due to the fact that more levels have evidently been programmed, TNT must not think that Habi is a threat to income-generating content. Perhaps they will choose to cap max-out gems at a 500np value. The XP needed to reach the higher levels will also increase, and the time needed to get these higher levels and the reward they generate is fairly equivalent to the time it would take to play flash games to generate the same amount of income.

I'm sure we'll eventually get new levels, but I'd rather all the glitches be fixed before TNT rushes to add more to the game.

Xepha reacted to Anime in TNTs Decision to Convert Darigan Pets and Plushie Pets...
I brought up customization because it is directly linked to and fully responsible for the drastic changes most pets saw when it went live. Had TNT not implimented customization, the changes you list above may not have been as drastic, or they may have changed in entirely different ways.

The Jubjub is the only example I have to work with, but it should suffice. The Coconut Jubjub is the only I could find a satisfactory image of from the art it had when I first joined Neo 6 years ago. The older art has been overwritten by the current files, and no longer exists on the site at all.

    ->

The Coco Jubjub became a Jubjub that looks like a coconut, instead of a coconut with feet. (I should note that Coconut was one of only three colors that survived that first art update with the feet-in-front-of-face look intact) This qualifies as a loss of defining features, which I belive is what you were pointing our in your first post.

Is it as drastic as some of the ones you listed? No. But is IS on par with what happened to a lot of pets when they were converted. The Plushie Acara, for instance, or Sponge pets in general.

What I was trying to say (and apparently I missed my mark) is that those changes were going to happen. No ifs ands or buts about it. We may have retained some sinister smiles and some spikes, but in the end, a lot would be lost for the sake of uniformity. And when it comes right down to it, uniformity across the species is more aesthetically pleasing than some 40-odd totally unique colors that bear only a passing resemblence to each other. And BECAUSE uniformity looks better, that is what TNT, as a business, is going to go for when updating.

The current fanbase enjoys and uses customization. Yes people left, but people leave Neo every day for a lot of reasons. We lose people because they don't like the way a plot has gone, or they're annoyed that a new color didn't turn out how they wanted it to (I know someone personally who did that...). Heck, I'm willing to bet we lost a lot more to the layout change than we did to customization. xD There are still a large number of active users that were active before and remember pre-customization days. The vast majority just got used to it, and there was a large outcry for it for a very long time before it came about.

I did not mean to say "that's the way things work" twice. It just sort of happened. I do not have a "sore spot" about this topic, nor am I hostile towards it. If anything, this topic in particular isn't brought up often. It's... never brought up, really. Most of the time people complain about the filters.

Xepha reacted to Anime in TNTs Decision to Convert Darigan Pets and Plushie Pets...
Mutant and Maraquan pets have non-standard poses because they have non-standard appendages for their species. 8-bit pets have non-standard poses because the entire point of being 8-bit is to be flat, viewed from one side on the screen. Baby, while we're on the topic of non-standard, has this issue due to size. And even then, all 4 of these species have poses as close to the standard as TNT could manage while taking into consideration that they're drastically different from a pet with a more basic color.

As for your list of pets: Yes, the old poses are more menacing/cuter/cooler. But a lot of the art is also horribly outdated. Those colors would have been due for an art update regardless of customization. They had just redone the art for the entire Jubjub species when they finished all of the current poses and went live with them. Bit of a waste of time for the people drawing the Jubjubs, really, but the fact remains that the art was going to be updated in one way or another at some point. That's just how things work.

Yes, those colors got hit pretty hard when it came to the update, but that was less because TNT decided to attack those specific pets, and more because those pets no longer matched the art style of the site and current pets. They decided that customization was the way to go (and I haven't heard complaints about it since it went live, so I think most people enjoy it), and the art and pet poses had to be updated to make it possible. Things were lost (like unique poses and emotions), and things were gained (the ability to make your pet 100% unique, numerous items gaining an actual use). That's just the way things work.

Also, TNT is very firm on the fact that they are not going to make UC Neopets avalible again. A few Editorial responses on the topic:

    (Issue 511)

    (Issue 513)

Note the phrases "art updates" and "out of date".
