Ok, these are my suggestions! 

July 19th 2018 was a normal day for me. Went in to work knowing that there was a possibility of thunderstorms around the time when I was supposed to be getting off, no biggie I can handle that.
Around 4pm is when the first set of sirens went off, though it was sunny and bright out. Everyone's phones kept going off stating Tornado warning in effect until 4:15. Then it got extended until 4:45 . I was off at 4:30 but decided to wait until the warning was over. Then somewhere between 4:30 and 4:45 the sky got really dark on the one side of town, and the sirens went off a second time. No body really knew what all was going on but, as it turns out a Tornado had touched down and destroyed parts of our town. I wasn't sure if my  house had gotten effected but then I heard someone say that the roof of a building a ways down from my house had been torn off. So then I panicked and left trying to speed home to check if my house and cats were okay.
It didn't hit me until I got to a bridge that a tornado had gone through. The steeple of our courthouse.. you can see for miles. I first noticed it was gone. a few blocks after this bridge is where you could really see the damage. My mother made it to my house before me and called to tell me I had gotten hit pretty bad. 
After making a lot of turns, and turning around to find a different way home because of trees laying across the street.. I finally made it home.
The gist is... my shingles were torn off (but thankfully no holes in the roof), siding got torn off, my neighbors garage was in my yard, my husbands car was totaled, and a lot of busted windows. 
Dealing with insurance has not been fun. I don't feel like I have been given enough to cover all the damage, but thankfully my dad knows how to fix things so the only thing I need to hire someone for is to redo the roof.
My town was called "a state of emergency" and apparently made some international papers as well. 
Sorry if this is long, I just needed to get it out somewhere.
 

It's never too late to satisfy our nosiness curiosity about everyone else. ? Is much of the east coast humid then?
I wasn't aware of Baltimore not being in a county, that's intriguing, how does that work then? Does that mean Baltimore has no sheriff's dept? I'll admit I struggle to get my head around there being a police force AND sheriffs in America and I don't really understand how that works, is it like police = town, while sheriff = country?
I want to try Old Bay, but I don't want to pay the price it's sold for over here. xD

I am from the east coast us, specifically Baltimore, MD. I have lived here my entire life and for the most part I enjoy living here. The weather can be hit or miss here though. Baltimore is known for being very humid, and this summer has not let us down in that department, we've also had loads of rain lately which has been nice for cooling things down but its still pretty darn hot.
Baltimore is in a interesting place, its one of the few cities in the us that is independent from a county and has its own unique kind of atmosphere the way any kind of small city does I guess.
I like living in Maryland also because how close I am to D.C. and theres always something fun to do there too. I'm also very close to several beaches although I usually go to Delaware with my family in Rehoboth.
Some of my favorite places in Baltimore though is the BMA, The Walters Art Museum, and of course going to an O's game at Camden yards (don't mention anything right now about baseball right now though, we're on a losing streak lol).
As for food, ask any Marylander and they'll mention Crabs and Old Bay seasoning ( this is very important to us LOL), Otterbein cookies, Berger Cookies (yummy if you like chocolatey fudgey goodness), and Fishers popcorn.

It isn't a glitch, there is a message on the page "For the Festival, The Soup Kitchen has received extra dontations (sic) and will help regardless of your prosperity. Bring your hungry pet forward and let it eat to its heart's content. :)"

I'm not sure if there are any posts about this yet, however, the Soup Kitchen will currently feed your pets regardless of how many Neopoints you have. While this is great news for anyone trying to get the avatar I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a glitch since there is no reason that the Soup Kitchen should be open for everyone. If it is a glitch could people be frozen for feeding their pets there since it is technically "exploiting a glitch"? It also is displaying the text from the Faerie Festival which is why I think it could be a glitch caused by all of the recent changes.

Haha...  yep lets go with this. A mildly evil plan by one of the good faeries is a much better explanation than that JS gets their wires crossed Every. Single. Time. there is an event.
Not that I mind the Soup Kitchen being active, I actually quite like that people could obtain the avatar without having to launder huge amounts of NP to side accounts and back again, it's more the principle of the thing. Now that we have noticed the pattern though, I can't wait for the next mini event after the Dragoyle hunt so we can test the theory and see if it goes on again!

Many of the dailies around the site also give out books, which vary widely in rarity and worth. A few dailies give out books that can be worth something to sell, but you can easily accumulate enough freebie books to read them to all of your pets in turn.

I get a handful of books from the BattleDome each day, several of them sell at 1 NP.
 

Books show up on the Money Tree all the time too, any of the numerous ones that are Battledome prizes are got rid of on there.
Playing Kiko Pop on easy is a good source of books, too (amongst other things). Play on easy and always aim for the middle balloon and you'll always win a prize. 365 varied items per year, not bad. ?

You could write to the editorial about it, even if it doesn't get published, someone will read it and might put something in motion.

This is SO much better than getting the Air(head) Faerie 3 days in a row like I did with my last cookie! But I've got no idea what to do with this dip... total 1st World Problem, right?
But educate me first... this can sit until I decide what to do with it, yes? It'll only be lost if I get another dip? I don't have to like, use it today to be able to continue using my fortune cookie... ?
Maybe I should paint my little guy Darigan, just for the lulz.

This is me, giving my Gelert a magical Poogle toy to play with, and finding out first hand WHY they are called magical... my Gelert wasn't too impressed at becoming a short fat Poogle, I can tell you.

Don't be a noob like I was so I'll share 3 mistakes I have made long ago... and not so long ago ?
1. If you truly enjoy the feeling of helping hungry pets, you might want to check out The Kadoatery (when you have NP to spare). It refreshes at certain times (there'll be people doing time-keeping on Neoboards) and you can feed them if you're quick enough. If you are slow, the only ones left will be the ones asking for ridiculously expensive food. You get an avatar once you've fed 75. My mistake was to spend over 200,000NP feeding one Kad before realising it didn't have to cost so much.
2. Beware of people on Trading Post. Most are very nice, some are clueless, a few can be mean and would take advantage of newbies. Paint Brushes are almost always expensive, and a Faerie Brush Plushie  is NOT a Faerie Paint Brush  even though they look similar. (In my defence I was an innocent kid and I never imagined people would lie to me.) You can check the price estimation of each item at JellyNeo's Item Database. https://items.jellyneo.net/item/5554/
On that note, if you ever want to paint your pets into something other than the basic colours, you can do so by using a morphing potion, a paint brush, zapping your pets at the Lab Ray (after you've collected all 9 map pieces), or for free if you have completed a Fountain Faerie Quest. Alternatively, (shameless promotion alert - I don't even run this guild) you might want to check out Zapping Your Dream Pets http://www.neopets.com/~ZYDP2, where you can list your wish (once your account is 4 months old), and someone will contact you if they zap a pet into what you want. That's where I adopted the Halloween Jubjub in my profile picture, and where I adopted out a Faerie Poogle and an Ice Jetsam to others. Downside is you don't get to choose the pet name.
3. Don't feed your pet a Poisonous Jelly. There was a time when I didn't understand the word "poisonous"...
I hope I haven't bored you yet! ? As said above, if you have any question, ask away! There are also guides about almost every aspect of Neopets from flash games to plot solutions to battledome, so I hope you like to read!

You got it, lol. There is SO much to do, and you get to enjoy discovering it all. ? If you're into collecting in any kind of way Neo is definitely a serious enabler in that respect. ? SO many people, no matter what their RL habits are, turn into total hoarders on Neopets. xD
Then there's the customising of both pets and 2 different kinds of Neohome, and earning trophies from games... making money from things like Food Club and the Stock Market...
There's so much to do you'll probably find different things corner your attention for a while and suck you in. I wonder how Neoquest will grab you...
Joining a fan community or two was a wise move though, you'll find out about so many things you might not have discovered for ages otherwise. ?

Hmmm that really depends. A lot of people create a gallery, which are showcases of things you have bought... some people try to make as much money as possible to obtain items/dream pets.... Some people train pets for battle.... some collect avatars, the list goes on but those are the big ones I can think of.   
@CannotLeave what do you enjoy doing?   I like bouncing around and am goal oriented so I spend time collecting avatars, which all have different requirements and are like a little victory each time.    If you have any questions about getting started on any of these, let me know!

Thank you everyone for welcoming me, I actually heard about it through Reddit! I was on the Runescape subreddit and the Neopets subreddit was recommended by the site... Of course I had heard of Neopets before but I just got around to joining. As for questions, just starting out on Neopets seems a little overwhelming, it is like there is so much to do-- what should I be trying to do, what goals are there?

I love collecting a type of stuffed animal called Beanie Boos. 

I know all of their names by heart (they come with name tags). Does anyone else collect stuffed animals? 

I've been playing on my main account for almost eleven years and that's a really long time to NEVER see some things...
Here's my conspiracy list. Does anyone concur? 
1.) I've never won Guess the Marrow.
2.) Smuggler's Cove never has anything to sell.
3.) The Almost Abandoned Attic has always just ran out of items.
4.) Refreshing for avatars and battledome challengers has never actually worked. 
5.) I've never gotten past The Gatherer (and that petpet) on the Altador Plot.
6.) The Turmaculus can never be woken up apparently ever.
7.) Qasalan Expellibox gave me neocash once, and a disease twelve hundred times.
8.) The Daily Puzzle often isn't refreshed very daily.
9.) I've found the guy sleeping at the magma pool four times, but gathered all the worms for the cave quest once.
10.) I can't beat the first guy on Neoquest and it sucks.
And a Extra Side Note just because I saw it today, did anyone notice that they changed the Altador Cup Trophy from looking like....you know....to a normal cup?
