I've sold all of mine. If someone did the calculations and showed that the odds of getting an expensive item beat the NP you'd get from selling them all, I'd reconsider. But I did an experiment on scratchcards. I had hoarded all my non-base level ones to scratch for levels when I got close to leveling up, and i tracked my results with each one compared to their SW price. I found that the SW price beat the rewards, and the rarer the card, the more it did. People tend to remember their wins from things like this, as rare as they are (compounded by the fact that others only gloat about their wins and don't tend to say "I opened a such-and-such and it was full of junk"), and don't remember all the losses, so they overestimate their odds of winning. Thus, they're willing to pay more for the item than it's actually worth.
 
This might not be true for the discovered chest, of course, but since it's held true for every other chance item I've tested it on (I also tested it on certain goodie bags, etc.), and the theory is based on known psychological biases, I'm not willing to lose NP testing it for the chest. If people pooled their resources, we might be able to figure out the probabilities, but we'd probably need to open at least 1000 chests to get the variability low enough to have a reasonable estimate. And that's a lot of NP to spend on a test.
 
Some people like to take the risk, thinking they'll be luckier than average. But only half the people are, and in the long run, everyone moves closer to the average. So I'd rather just get myself the guaranteed, predictable NP from selling. In the long term, I win out.
 
(Even if you get it for free, there's still the opportunity cost of opening vs. selling -- if you open it, you lose out on the opportunity to sell it for its going price. Of course, you can view it as a game, and consider the price difference the cost of playing. As I said, some people like to take the risk, just as some people like to play the lottery or spin the wheels.)

Due to an incident back in April where a member got locked out of their account with the pet still on it, we have had to replace our Werelupe. We bid farewell to Cajrouth, our long standing Werelupe and one of the most-lent pets in the ALP, and welcome the new Werelupe Anndarial!
 
The new Werelupe chain will only provide the Werelupe and Mootix avatars, not the Whee! avatar like the old chain did. As we have another pet with an aged Snowbunny attached to it all ready, we did not feel it was worth the trouble to obtain and age another.

Didn't think about the stamp either....played every day too but it still wasn't enough and only ended up with 2000 points. I played a lot, it would have literally taken hours of daily dedicated time to get thousands of points. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Had enough to buy the book so I'm fine with that. After seeing the stamp I wish I'd spent a little more time getting points but getting Rank 1 was tiring enough (I can't imagine the patience people have to get All-Star)

I don't have the Rubbish or the Packrat avvies but only because I am such a neat freak and like to stay organized. I want both of those avvies someday, but I, too, am concerned that discarding boatloads of items would get me nowhere... it seems like a waste of time. Anyway, we could do with a little less junk in Neopia, so maybe I'll put my OCD aside and collect some junk too. :)

I've discarded well over 5,000 items and still haven't gotten the avatar.

So I'm trying to get the MSPP avatar, I followed TDN's avatar solutions which says to "View your inventory while carrying a Malevolent Sentient Poogle Plushie (TCG) there."
 
I've refreshed at my inventory multiple times but the avatar won't show up.

As you can see I'm clearly carrying the MSPP (TCG) in my hand so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong :(

Just finished Neoquest II on Normal difficulty! I don't feel the need to upgrade this trophy, so I never need to play this game ever again!

Finally hit 2m in the bank, but slowly saving up more and more now. I'm trying to get to 10m before starting to burn my NP on things. :P

If you play fair and square, you do not need to worry about review scores ;)
