I usually do the quest if the total item cost is <1000NP. Each stat increase costs me about 21k if I train it myself, so it's definitely worth it even if I only win rarely.

The average price of a brown codestone is 4160np*
The average price or a red codestone is 18243np*

People are saying it is a personal thing. It absolutely is NOT. It is simply much more expensive and time consuming to train with brown codestones.

ok ... this stamp avatar thing is ridiculous ........ i mean retired avatars are OK in my opinion ... but I totally refuse to be handed an avatar that some people spent over 100Mil NP on .... In terms of faerie abilities:
Shade is much better than bandage. The amount of damage blocked will be much more than the 5hp bandage gives you.
I would say that Icicle's 6 icons are more useful than 4x2 that you get from sear, but it's pretty close.
 
Items:
Your constants are pretty weak. I would recommend upgrading to something like the Scroll of Knowledge (11 icons, ~90k np) and/or the Scroll of Ultranova (9.8 icons, basically free) depending on your budget.

Right now, as of today, red codestones average about 18,000 NP each, and regular codestones average about 4,000 NP each. That means it becomes more expensive to train with regular codestones than red codestones when you are training with 5 regular codestones, i.e., when you are above Level 100.

Wow, a lot of downers on lab ray training! My pet is lab trained and honestly, I'm thankful for it because her stats would never be as good as they are now. Overall, the lab ray does tend to increase your stats, but each stat goes at a different rate. The lab ray tends to increase HP a lot, slightly increase strength, and slightly lower defense. That's how you can tell a lab ray pet - really high HP, low level, and low defense. It comes with a good strategy, though: don't worry about defense and count on your high HP to take as much damage as your opponent deals.
 
My suggestion for training is to use the lab ray (only if you don't care about species/color, that is) and keep using the training schools to supplement the lab ray. You may end up paying more for some stats, and it certainly is frustrating when you keep losing stats, but overall you will gain. And you can always stop labbing for a few days to give training time to catch up. That's the way I train and I find it's very successful.
