I think my biggest irritation still is their push for cash. I think that neocash is a good idea but to buy one mitten per snowball? That was mean and corporatey. I understand that they want to get money, but with all the ads, premium accounts (and the way they treat their premium account users) I just feel really disgruntled when I feel forced to make a purchase.

I would be more happy to shell out $10 supporting a site I like rather than having to "miss out" because I don't want to play in their sketchy money fishing games

Heh heh, looking at everybody else's replies makes me feel bad about what my frustration is... It seems to be a unique issue? XD

The thing that gets on my nerves the most is that I tend to swear a lot in my regular life, so when I'm writing neomails to my friends, I always forget to censor myself and chill out with the language, so I always get the warnings like, "Hey don't talk about that kind of stuff here!"

And I'm like "EXCUSE ME I AM AN ADULT WRITING TO MY ADULT FRIENDS LEMME SAY WHAT I WANNA." But I get over it XD It's not a big deal, it's just hard to re-word things sometimes and still get the same message across XD

I also agree with the items that just seem impossible to obtain. I understand that their rarity is part of their appeal, but it's frustrating.

    Glitches/weirdness in games.
Snowmuncher: Potions and gems that are mysteriously consumed by falling blocks and falling blocks that are coming out of nowhere and hits me on the head.
Escape to Kreludor: Power-ups that suddenly vanish.
Ultimate Bullseye II: Weird physics, when it looks like the arrow would hit the target, but flies right past. You can only aim up and down, not left and right, so this sounds impossible.
Neggsweeper: Not a glitch, but it's really annoying when you've got a corner of 2x2, two bombs left and no sure indication of where they will be.

This is what happens when I'm in my early morning class and I have access to paper, pencils, and an idea. I start to draw. Sometimes it's just doodles, but not this time...

Edit: Hah, just noticed... this is on the back of a crossword puzzle my old teacher gave us. My scanner is way too sensitive sometimes. xD

So, I'm thinking of making my own website. It will be for Melbourne musicians (I might branch it to other places if it works out) where I'll basically be listing all Melbourne artists so when people are looking for other acts they don't have to ask around or sift through multiple sights (facebook/myspace/reverbnation etc) Maybe, I'll even post updates and stuff for cd / ep release and other news.
I'll also categorize artists so if you want a certain genre it's easier to find.

This may sound lame but opinions? Yay or nay?
Also, If anyone is willing to help, Say with artwork or even coding, That would be super sweet. But yeah, If anyone thinks I should go ahead with this, Do say! Even though it may not be in your area, I just want to know if it may be worth all the time I'll be putting into making it before it goes live even though I'm not that great at css/html I know basic stuff so it won't look that bad.

Alishkah reacted to passiflora in Your thoughts on legalizing marijuana?
I know this is starting to get off topic, but I just can't resist. :* I'll just leave a disclaimer here similar to what I said earlier in the thread: I don't think a substance's medical usefulness is relevant to whether or not it should be legalized for recreational use.

Cancer is unregulated cell growth that can occur for a plethora of reasons. Even naturally occurring substances can be carcinogenic.

This very statement reflects a lack of understanding about what cancer is. Which cancer is curable? All cancers?

I'm going to try the Red Flags link again with corresponding examples:
    Testimonials
    Ancient Wisdom
    Secret/Conspiracy
    - Here is some more information about why there isn't a conspiracy. Another kicker: The pharmaceutical industry is actually interested in this stuff too.*
Buy My Book ('for when they can't say "read my peer-reviewed journal article"')
    - I couldn't find a single cited reference or links to any scientific studies on the entirety of Rick's website.
Miracle Cure-All (+ "Quick and Easy")
    Natural

Little, if any, of what you've said proves the safety or efficacy of what you're advocating. It's all just assurances. Scientifically fallacious (see above), if you will.

Telling people to forego cancer treatment is grossly irresponsible. People are free to seek out treatments as they wish, but it's always a good idea to inform your doctor and consider all the options.

    * From the pharmaceutical website:
In the last 45 years it has been possible to demonstrate that CBD has a wide range of pharmacological effects, many of which being of great therapeutic interest, but still waiting to be confirmed by clinical trials. It is important to highlight that many effects of CBD draw a bell-shaped dose-response curve, suggesting that the dose is a pivotal factor in CBD research. The wide range of CBD effects can be explained by the multiple mechanisms through which CBD acts, although further research is needed to clarify the precise mechanisms that underlie some of the potentially beneficial effects of CBD.

And as I mentioned before, the endocannabinoid system one thing that can influence pathology. It's great if we can use it for certain benefits, but it's not the be-all and end-all.

It's a drug in every single sense of the definition:

A substance used to treat an illness, relieve a symptom, or modify a chemical process in the body for a specific purpose.
A substance, sometimes addictive, which affects the central nervous system.
A chemical or substance, not necessarily for medical purposes, which alters the way the mind or body works.
A substance, especially one which is illegal, ingested for recreational use.

Yes, it should, and parents should be responsible about exposure. Even pro-legalization people in this thread have recognized that it has the potential to affect growing brains - this includes prenatally (2), in infancy, and in childhood and adolescence. Most importantly, there aren't very many studies on it whatsoever so it's wayyyyyy too early to recommend giving cannabis to children.

Scientists recognize confounding factors and control for them when analyzing results. It's just as easy to turn that around, anyway - how do you know all these people you say have been "cured" have been cured specifically by the cannabis oil? Rick Simpson also advocates "other natural things" you can do, and we can't even properly control for confounders because they're all testimonials.

We are doing something about that - more and more places are implementing fragrance-free policies.

I think people are too obsessed with the lives of celebrities and public figures.

Talking about them like they know them and everything about them, Which scares me and I do have sympathy towards any one in the spotlight who gets slandered for things that others not in the spotlight have gone through. Smoking weed is an activity a lot of young people explore. In my opinion it has kinda become cultural in a way - If that makes sense?. It is part of growing up. Trying new things and to have people slitting their wrists because someone got caught smoking weed once is ridiculous. I'll never understand this incident with the cutting. But, Kids these days need to stop fussing over public figures so much. Magazines don't help, Either do talk shows such as ET and TMZ (I think that's what it's called) These people get stalked almost everyday, Which is bad enough.

I don't think blame him for taking a puff. If it helps him chill for a moment and forget everything and have fun. go for it. Though, I don't approve of weed overall as I've said in the debate topic on legalizing it. Ah. So much ambivalance.

Sorry, For ranting if I don't make sense. Just woke up and watched the news, Some messed up stuff on it so I'm kinda angry at the world. Haha.

Alishkah reacted to Xepha in Advice / Tips on writing a Job Resume?
Last time I gave tips to someone, I ended up applying on jobs again and actually got a job!

Anyway. Try not to make it too long. 1 page, 2 pages maximum.

    Mine goes like this:

    Work experiences

    Job title Dates
    Company

Major tasks I was doing in that position. (e.g. Receiving service calls by phone, fax and email.)
I put one task per line, and try to keep it to maximum 3-4 major tasks per job.

    Education

    Title of the formation Dates
Name of the place where I was studying

Don't go back too far with your education... you don't need to state that you finished elementary school for instance. XD (Yes I have seen that on resumé before!)

Make sure to understand the job(s) you are applying on. Re-use keywords from their ads! And you will also want to write a letter to go with your resumé that target a specific position and job. Show them why you are awesome, based on what they are looking for. You have to be confident in yourself!!!

Remember that the objective is to get them to call you and have a chance to meet them in person.
Depending what you are targetting, don't hesitate to play with fonts and even add a touch of color. Recruiters are likely to receive a fair pile of boring resumés to read. Make sure yours grab their attention in a way or another.

Also, have someone proofreading it before you send it to recruiters. ;)

How gently and coherently can I say this?
    Hm...
It really freakin' pisses me off. For several reasons.

A: A bunch of girls cutting themselves has absolutely no impact on whether Justin Beiber smokes weed or not. So it was a really stupid idea to begin with, and now it's interfering with his life in a completely horrifying and unwarranted way. Sure it wasn't bright of him to smoke pot where it's illegal, but he doesn't deserve this kind of nation-wide guilt trip. There is no possible good outcome for him in this.
B: This is basically self-harming for attention on a MASSIVE scale, and attention is a terrible terrible reason to self-harm. No reason is good, but attention is the worst.
C: Cutting can be addicting, and while it's not one of those "one shot and you're messed up for life" type deals, this is introducing a bunch of young girls to an activity that could potentially turn into a habit which could potentially turn into a disorder.
D: I have friends who deal with cutting, and seeing so many massively publicized instances of cutting is really triggering for them. One celebrity smoking pot is not worth the relapse of thousands of people recovered/recovering from self-harm.
    E: ... Humans are dumb. :sad01_anim:
