Not really an "achievement" on my part, more extreme wonderfulness of another person:

Someone gifted me the 500k Lab Map piece today!! It was the only one I couldn't buy and was hoping to win from KQ (I had received all the other but the 2 cheapest from KQ already), but someone amazing person gave me the piece and now I have a complete map! I can't wait to try it out and hopefully get the avvies eventually!! I'm off to adopt a pet from the pound to try it out on~

Love the Wraith. One of the better wraiths out there! The clothes are nice and I've been asking the Editorial for a Biscuit Tonu for over a year... I think it looks PERFECT!

I'm sure I wasn't an influence but I'd like to think I was - SO THANK YOU TNT FOR BEING RAD!

+3 levels for the price of one?! Awesome! I've only ever gotten one bonus point before!

    EDIT:
I advanced to the Haunted Woods chapter of NQ2! Only two more chapters to go!

I've doubled my Assignment 53 high score again. 12,222 -- more than halfway to the avatar! Woohoo!

EDIT: Make that 19,629. If I had watched a better video, I'd have had it. Hopefully I can get it tomorrow.

3% discount is still better than full price, and for the Richest avatar, that actually saves 300k! Quite significant in the long run. Discount days are the only days I buy from the Hidden Tower.

Mariposa, thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I went from it working 10% of the time to it now working >90% of the time.

Rebecca, I've been watching Youtube videos, too (which is how I got past the first part of the second level), but it was so frustrating to see them bouncing around like crazy and it just not working for me. (I assumed you had to time when you hit "up"; I didn't realize you could just press and hold -- that's so much easier.) Right now my goal is to just get all the nerkmids I can so I can have as many lives as possible. I'll worry about "maximizing" my score once I can stop dying (if I even need to for to get the avatar).

Now I just need to get a little faster so I can go kill all the baddies while the energy shield is still active. But still, I at least made it to that part consistently today!

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Mariposa has some wonderful tips, and she basically covered what I do as well. :)
Another thing you may want to do is to watch YouTube videos of people playing. I watched all the ones I could find, and I found it interesting to see how many people bothered or didn't bother to get into the secret areas, get the shield there, etc. After watching a video for the first time I was able to double my high score, so it may help you as well. :) Good luck! Assignment 53 can be super frustrating, but it just takes lots of practice.

As far as I know, it is just a random number-- but the number will always be between 200 and 800.

I used to play this a lot because I was curious what would happen if I won. I guessed right once and got I think a Marrowblade as the prize.

A correct guess will win you a marrow-themed item.

Assignment 53 is my favorite game! The wall jump does take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is hard to miss.

Once equipped with the Gravity Boots, the wall jump can be completed in the following steps (this is what works for me):

Face the wall and start walking toward it, keeping the left (or right) arrow held down.
With the left/right arrow still held down, press the up arrow and keep that held down too. Both arrows should stay held down, and you will jump toward the wall. Make sure to hit the wall while you are still in the air (it may take a little tweaking to get the timing right). As soon as you hit the wall, you will automatically change direction in the air. You do not need to do anything else to change direction. At this point, you can release your left/right and up arrows and allow yourself to float down to the ground. I recommend practicing with the wall jumps when you get the first pair of gravity boots on Octozodi 2. After you get the boots, just go back up to the checkpoint and practice jumping to the wall there. Stand on or just to the right of the checkpoint. Press the right arrow (keep it held down) and immediately after press the up arrow (keep it held down too). With both of the arrows still pressed, you should hit the wall to the right and bounce off of it. To get the shield for Wuba Secundus 1, first get the boots and walk to the very end of the ledge. Slowly inch toward the edge and allow yourself to fall straight down. You will end on the platform with the shield. To get up, do the press+hold right arrow, immediately followed by press+hold the up arrow. Again, both arrows should remain pressed. You will bounce off the wall to the right and land back on the platform that you dropped from. (This level can be completed without the shield, but I strongly recommend using it if possible). To pass the wall jump to the rest of the level: Walk to the very edge of the first ledge, as far as you can go. Do the press+hold right arrow immediately followed by press+hold up arrow. Keep both arrows held down for the entirety of the jump and you should automatically bounce off the right-hand wall, then bounce off the left-hand wall, then bounce toward the right again, collecting the nerkmids in the air and falling down on the other side of the hole. I hope that helps! I am not sure if the arrows work differently on different computers, but this is what always works for me.

Thanks so much, everyone! I appreciate all of the positive wishes and suggestions! In the end, I neglected my homework (completely worth it, even if it means I've got a long day ahead of me today :p ) and instead did some reading for pleasure, then I played a Disney movie in the background while I splurged and spent all of my saved Neopoints for one of my dreamies (now I have a Desert Lutari! Woo!).

It's so great that you're going to be getting the data for this, Siniri! :) I wish I had kept track of it while I was spinning. I doubt I even broke even, since I only ever got super cheap Nerkmids before they deflated, and I got a number of the backgrounds and stamps.
But, I do have to say that as an avatar collector, I did find the avatar to be worth the price of spinning. I've wasted FAR more NP on trying to get the Kelp avatar than the WoE, so I figure it's not that bad at all. :P

I'm a stay at home mom, so my time is rarely for myself. My puppy is very hyper and loves to play but once she's curled up, she's the perfect snuggling companion and I find her company to be rather soothing when I'm in a bad mood.

Rebecca's Disney movie activity is fun too. Except when it's the same Disney movie repeatedly!! My daughter controls the movie selection most days and for a while it was Tinker Bell all day, every day. :P

I was wondering about your leavening since they looked a little small (but still very tasty). Some other factors that can contribute to them not rising:

Leaving out salt (salt acts as a catalyst for the rising process, so you only need a little bit, but you do need some -- I've used recipes that removed it because the person was on a low-sodium diet, but usually there's so little in baked goods, and it's really necessary -- if you're following a recipe, it's not obvious that they left out this key ingredient) Letting the batter sit too long before baking (either because you didn't get them in the oven fast enough, and/or because you put them in a non-preheated oven -- you don't need to be Lightning McQueen, but once the leavening gets wet, they should get in the oven fairly quickly -- this can also happen if your oven temperature is off -- mine is, so I often bake in my toaster oven instead) Messing with it too much when it's in the oven (opening the door, shaking the pan, etc. -- anything that cools them or lets the bubbles escape while the batter's still wet) Humidity (this can mess up your ingredients when they're in storage -- it also keeps things like whipped cream and meringues from setting, though the effect on baked goods is less; still, I thought I'd throw it out there, though there's not much you can do about it besides making sure things are stored in airtight containers and trying to use them up fairly quickly.) Of course, it's probably just that your baking soda is a little old, as you said, but I thought I'd point out some potential other issues that can cause the same effect, since you said this was your first time baking. I hope that doesn't offend you, but I enjoy learning about all the things that can help make my baked goods come out better. (Another important one is overmixing -- this can make the baked goods tough and chewy -- something you want to happen for things like pasta or bread, but not so much for cakes or pancakes or biscuits -- unless you do, then mix away! I'm not a fan of chewy, so when I learned this one, I enjoyed my banana bread so much more -- my mom likes things chewy, so she always had me mix for at least 50 strokes.)

P.S. Your pictures really are very nice. They make me want to try the cakes, for sure. If they were half as delicious as they look, I'm sure they were amazing -- a stellar first attempt at baking.

Instead of frosting, you could try icing (which I prefer with pound cake): it's just lemon juice and powdered (confectioner's) sugar whisked together and drizzled over the top. It should be clear and pour a little faster than syrup, and turn white and harden not long after you pour it.

I don't think I use nearly as much sugar as Martha Stewart does, but here's a more formal recipe: http://www.marthastewart.com/313152/lemon-glaze

I like that it's quick and scalable, so you can do it for a whole cake or a single cupcake.

I guess I should test WoExtra then. But I don't like spinning a wheel unless it costs less than 0.1% of my bank account (ideally, I'd say less than I earn in interest each day, but since that would be nearly 300M, I don't think I'd ever get there...), so I've got a ways to go before I'm rich enough to test it. It would also be a bit more of a pain to test because the value varies based on the cost of training, so I'd have to keep stats records separately from other results so I could calculate profitability cutoffs based on training tier (if that's important).
