Neopets NFT Situation Link Collection For anyone who’s confused over what’s going on, a few weeks ago, we found out that Neopets are making NFTs. NFTs (or Non-Fungible Tokens) are digital receipts bought and traded with cryptocurrency such as bitcoin, or in this case, Etherium. The response to this has been overwhelmingly negative, and there have been multiple scandals that have happened since. There are a number of petpages and articles explaining everything that’s happened, and I figured a central thread to collect all the links would be helpful. A community boycott has begun this weekend, lead by JellyNeo, which we are in full support of. Speak with your wallets. Spread the word on social media. Let your voice be heard. Quick information about NFTs/Neopets Metaverse and why the community is against it: NFTs are essentially a crypto-currency scam that gives you a "unique" Neopets picture that you "own". It is currently believed the Neopets Metaverse are allegedly taking images from Dress to Impress and selling them as their NFTs. There are plans to make the game pay-to-win, all having to do with the purchase of NTFs. This threatens the heart of the game at its core. I'd be sad too little ixi. This was never the idea of Neopets. It's supposed to be a safe place to play games. Not a "Gimme all your money and we still won't keep your kids safe, HA!"

The more I stare at these Free NFTopets, the more they're starting to grow on me. (As in "this might have given me an idea for a Runway theme", not in the "I'd like to own an NFT" sense. )

You are not paying to play. The entire website is free and accessible to you without having to pay a cent in order to access the content. You chose to pay for Premium because it offers nice QoL to maintain your shop but you can still do all the same things without Premium. The Neopets Metaverse is changing that by having gameplay be locked behind a pay wall, meaning you won't be able to access it at all without purchasing NFTs, which are hundreds of dollars each. This can be anything from new Neopets worlds, new plots, new pets, new items, new events - won't be accessible to you in any way unless you purchase NFTs. Imagine you couldn't play the Altador Cup or participate in the Advent Calendar without having to buy an NFT...

yeah, sometimes randomized characters can really hit upon a winner and unlike nfts, it's a fun goal to work towards you should go for it if they're giving you inspiration! at least one good thing can come out of this.

Jumpstart/Netdragon (it is clear by now that these companies are the ones actually pushing for the NFTs, not The Neopets Team) own the IP for Neopets. Sadly, they can do whatever they wanted with it. If they wanted to do a brand deal with a toilet paper company, they could. tbh I'd prefer that to the NFTs! also, what is the purpose of emptying out shops? i didn't do that, but surely it doesn't do anything, because without any items, anyone not participating in the boycott isn't going to be able to find the shop to read the descriptions, anyway?

I once wrote to TNT suggesting that if you get 6 matches you should get six prizes instead of three I also thought you meant halfway there for a new PB/dreamie or bank account goals or something

I don't have a shop on my account, but I'm letting my friends and cousins know so they can take the items out of theirs.

Truly what a mess at least we get a slight laugh with these wrong holiday month but

here's mine:

My family has four accounts between us and we've all logged out after emptying our shops and will stay dark until Monday. I'm the most active player, but the kids are home for Canadian Thanksgiving and they were as disgusted as me by this situation and very willing to keep away from the site in protest. I cancelled Premium after the recent Charity Corner cheating mess (guess we know now why they didn't bother to punish the cheaters) but I get Premium as a birthday present, so it doesn't expire for months. It will be hard losing it, but I manged without for years. And who knows if Neopets will still be around when it expires? Not looking good..
