leverhelven
I've just started playing NeoQuest I for the avatar. And in the near future I guess I'll have to play NeoQuest II for the other two avatars. But am I the only one that HATES these games?! EUUURGH. So BORING, so SLOW! Both games suck, in my opinion. I can't find a way to make them more fun. Unfortunately I need the avatars. What do you guys think of NQ I and II?
Rebecca~
Nope, I think you're in really good company with that. I've played them both for the avatars, and I got the bronze trophies. I decided that I wanted to upgrade them both to gold though, which was pretty silly. XD I'm finishing off NQ1 on Insane now- still in the Jungle Ruins. *sigh* I don't know if this will help you at all, but with NQ2, to make up for the fact that it's longer than the original NQ, they give you additional people to play as, which makes the game easier. But yeah, it still sucks. I tend to either watch a movie or listen to audio books or something like that while I'm playing it- keeps my mind occupied, so I'm not driven completely mad with boredom. leverhelven
Gash, I think what drives me mad the MOST are the controls. Like, seriously? Couldn't they make it so we'd be able to use the arrow keys or something? More fluid movements? Jeez. Walking square-after-square-after-square is maddening. jcpet
I have to admit that I wouldn't be playing these games if it weren't for the avatars. But that being said, I don't think the games are really that bad. It does take a lot of time to complete, but role-playing games are designed to be like that. As for the controls, I agree with you, leverhelven, but considering these games were released over 10 years ago, I can't really blame them. I'm sure it was really hard to code up one of these games back then.
Spritzie
I personally love tedious stuff, but NQ I was a bit too much for me. I actually enjoyed NQ II. The multiple characters took a lot of the boredom out of it. I plan to upgrade my trophies for them, but I'm not in a big hurry to do so. Duma
I have played them for the avatars and -maybe- i will one day commit myself to upgrading the trophy. I don't hate them but it's not that I like them either. I guess the first time was nice for the story, but other then that. meh. What I hate the most is how the actions in a fight keep changing places depending on the options you get. If you're not careful you end up using a potion while you didn't really needed it/didn't want to use it. Some of them should stay at the same place. Ruto
I love both of them, even though playing NQII on insane did indeed nearly drive me insane. NQI has been a nice time killer for the past couple of weeks, and it's easy to multitask while playing it. In general I just like roleplaying games, so that seems to be why I have the patience for neoquest.
Cassia
Ugh I can't stand either...I tried to get through them for the avatars, but gave up. I'll go back to them sometime...
kris10ly
Is it a law of the internet that anyone making an "am I the ONLY one who ____________~?" statement will always list something that isn't uncommon at all? xP No, you aren't the only person who dislikes NQ/NQII. In fact, most people whine about those games and stop playing them as soon as they've gotten the avatar/first trophy. Personally, I enjoy them - they remind me of playing Pokemon Blue on my GBC as a kid, and all the page refreshes lead to some great random events. I like that Neopets offers some patience/strategy games as well as the reflex-based flash games I'm not very good at.
xkittyxxx
I have started NQ2 in hope to get the avatars, but it's just so boring! I agree, the controls are just ridiculous... All the clicking drives my partner mad too lol. I did find watching TV at the same time helped a lot though, and using the maps/walkthroughs to speed up the process lol. I'll probably pick it up again eventually :)

One thing I couldn't find anywhere: in Neoquest I, when you die in Normal Mode, what happens? Do you have to start all over again? :sick01:
Ruto
You simply lose some experience points and are sent back to Neopia City. Usually you can just sneak back to where you were and pick up again with minimal consequences. Although I do think that, if you lose to the final boss on evil difficulty, you will have to start the game completely over.
RobertoLuongo
Nope, I actually like them. They remind of the old turn based Japanese RPGS (like the old Final Fantasy games) which is definitely one of my favourite genre of games. Though, The final boss on Evil (Mastermind, is it?) is actually way easier than Jhabnal or whatever the first boss is. So there is that! leverhelven
Oh, boy. I'm playing right now, and this keeps on happening: You attack a huge skeith, but miss! A huge skeith attacks you, but misses! Like, for every enemy. Battles that could be really quick take an eteeeeeeeeeernity because everybody keeps missing every attack. :grrr: I am SO abandoning this game forever once I get the avatar. Bright ^_^
I actually really liked the games when I play them, but I don't know if I would still enjoy them now. I played them when I was around 12. I don't know if I would have the patience for it anymore. But back then it was the coolest thing in the world. AJ11
I started out finding NQII utterly boring but as the extra charachters appeared I started to enjoy it ... yes I actually liked it !! I liked the old fashioned click step click step thingy and was quite sorry it was finished at the end. I started NQ I expecting it to be about the same but found it deadly dull by comparison, stuck it out to the end for the trophy and avatars though and glad I did..I think its one of those things to tick off your list ... been there done that etc :arrowhead:

XD It is frightfully boring, but it's a lot shorter, and while the additional characters make the game a lot easier (Velm, let me love you!), it's still dreadfully dull, and it takes FOREVER to finish. crazy_cat_luv_bb
If you found it tiresome then you may want to visit the Avatar Chat ;) There is a board with people who are playing it for either avatar or trophy. I'm sure you would get through it faster with motivation from the board. I started out playing NQ 2 with not-so-good feeling but now I see it's not pretty bad and already gained all the avatars from both NQ and NQ
