aww you can do it!

my negative attitude toward it doesn't apply to anyone but me

It really is a good thing for this distraction. I just play AC while waiting for replies :P It works wonders

Posted

I'm giving myself a kind of schedule. I'll check the forums only after every 10 games of Slushie Slinger. That way I don't get too distracted and not make much progress.

gahh slsl is killinng mee! It's time consuming, and I always lose lives for the silliest reasons like not timing it properly or firefox freezing or something like that :( I seem to have a high score cap in that game...

I love it. It's my favorite of the AC games, but I haven't played it much this year, because of how long it takes. But I've had enough of SOSD, so I try to spend my time with SS. It takes more time, but I enjoy it more.

The more you play, the better you get with timing. I still have timing issues with the shortest and longest rows once in awhile, when I try to get ahead of myself.

exaccttllyy I always try to get ahead of myself.

Once I played by trying to always have a slushie in my hand, and giving it to the first customer no matter what colour. It didn't work very well because I always had my back to the counters, but it was worth a try

I'm in a small town on the Panama Canal. We're trying to catch a bunch of lizards in the Anolis genus for research. We study anolis carolinensis (common name Green Anole) in my lab. That species is an invasive in the southeast US, so some of you may have seen it. It's also

The trip's ok, minus my being sick today. It's kinda neat here, but things are a bit crazy too - reminders that you're in latin america and things work a bit differently. Catching lizards is fun.

I've been behind on the AC since I've been here... I'll have to see if my goal of rank 5 is still feasible when I get back. I'm not sure how many games I can play being sick and with the internet connection so spotty...

Ahh I'm so jealous!! :O That's the kind of job I'd love to have. Are you a field herpetologist, Liz? :D

Posted

Oops I meant to say that it's also found in pet stores (the green anole).

haha, well I'm not really a field herp. I do more molecular things, but I had an opportunity to do this trip (and one six months ago) which has been awesome, since I'm usually in the lab. It's great to be able to do some field work. I'm a grad student in molecular biology (we do a lot of genetics/genomics). For our group, we have 3 field herpetologists (one from my university, one we collaborate with at another university in the US, and one the works here in Panama), and then some professors that usually do molecular things but get to go in the field now, a student in out lab that just finished his undergrad, and me. It's been great, especially with the hardcore herpetologists leading the way. There's so much to learn from them!

That sounds like fun Liz. Though I'm not a fan of lizards, but I wouldn't mind the trip. Need an assistant? :D

Oh cool! :D Maybe there's hope for my future after all :)

Although I assume I'm gonna have to go to grad school for herpetology to do that... :laughingsmiley:

We could use all the help we can get. :)

The history here is pretty cool - with the Panama canal and all. And there are a lot of American influences. For instance, they use retired US schoolbuses for the public bus system.

Oh and these lizards are very friendly and harmless (well maybe not friendly... they don't exactly like to get caught, but they are pretty harmless). It's funny because they try to bite you, but most species are small, and it does hurt at all. (It doesn't hurt when the bigger species bite you - it's just like someone gnawing on you with their gums).

and yeah, you might have to go to grad school for herpetology. or you could apply for a fellowship with the smithsonian in Panama. there are lots of frog people here. I could recommend a few good herp profs...

Ah, that would be awesome!! I'm going to be a junior this fall, so I need to start looking for internship opportunities in my field.

Not even joking, can I come down there later in July and help out? :O

Posted

Well, we're leaving at the end of June. Plus there are permits and things - legally, you have to be on the permit in order to help.

Posted

Well, I'm definitely going to apply for next year! Guess I need to do some lizard research over the school year first...

Maybe I'm not a waste of space after all ^_^

I don't plan on working, I'm just gonna live off my disability money. I wanted to go into retail but I'm not good at anything other than Neopets. I CANNOT believe I'm going to be in Life Skills. Those kids do nothing but smell rotten, lick their lips, and cry when you won't hug them. I know I'm coming off as mean and nasty right now, but I'm absolutley done with everybody in my life. My mom doesn't give a crap, my brother is a smart aleck, my therepast is well....I'm not gonna go there, my dad is a "Man of thought not man of emotion" as he says, and I'm done with everyone. The only thing I'm good at is taking care of my Neopets.

I'm not the biggest fan of lizards, but we do have a lot of little frogs outside my house, especially when it rains. I think this is because we're in the country & I keep worrying that I'm going to step on one of them since they blend into the ground so well!

Life sucks, and is pointless, so just have fun doing what you do. No reason to hate on people/things, they're only going to last until they die or the sun turns into a red giant :P

Wow, all that venting made me hungry, chocolate chip cake here I come!!!!

The guy in my avatar is my dream boy by the way. I love him to bits!

Posted

I love most animals xD But I can't have any pets, which is why I play Neopets :D Besides, I can't have a pet dragon IRL anyway :laughingsmiley:

Ooo! Chocolate! You do know by mentioning it, you have to share with us now, right? :D

Sure!

:hands out cake and pours fruit punch:

*eats cake* Mm, that reminds me, once I finish eating this rice pudding, i need to bake myself a cake.

Any suggestions for what cake I should bake? :D

Yay! Thanks :D

And Manta, I only have my cat, Cairo. (He's in my profile picture.) Growing up, my sister and I weren't allowed to have pets because of allergies. My dad and I were allergic to dogs, and my sister was allergic to cats. Then due to my dust allergies, birds were out, as were fish and such because of my mold allergies. :laughingsmiley:
