Ruto Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I have no college fund, either. My parents already told me that they're not going to fund anything. I have to rely completely on scholarships. :( Quote
:)Doc Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I have no college fund, either. My parents already told me that they're not going to fund anything. I have to rely completely on scholarships. :( That's what my parents are doing. :( I've already been told if I want any education I've got to pay attention NOW instead of LATER. That's why I'm trying so hard to get good grades and do good on my Sax. Which by the way All A's and One B and 2nd chair out of 2 :P Quote
Ruto Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I've got all A's except for a B in English. Curse that woman. <_< I have to do well on my clarinet, too. 1st chair out of 6. 5 idiots and a good successor for next year. >=3 My mother says I need to make it to All-State band this year. Quote
:)Doc Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I've got to try and make All Region first! I'm so scared. I really suck at the scales :crying: Quote
livvy Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Just keep practicing, Doc. I'm sure you'll do great. :D *spazzes* Look at this prompt! 2. "The most important lesson you can learn while you are here [at Furman] is that for your life to have authentic meaning, fulfillment and consequence, you must learn the importance of connection to forces larger and greater than yourself: to larger causes and to the greater community." Rod Smolla, President, Furman University With this in mind, briefly describe a current issue or recent event in your state or community and how it will affect its citizens in the future? More importantly, how have you, as a leader, made a difference in regards to this issue? Maximum Allowed: 500 words. What the heck am I supposed to say about that? I'm a HIGH SCHOOL student, for goodness sake! I don't have time to go out and save the world! I'm busy trying to keep my own little world from imploding! Quote
:)Doc Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Awh thanks Livvy ^_^ Hm... make something up? x_x I don't know. Say you saved a cat from a burning taco building in the middle of the night in your underclothes, while missing Two and A Half Men, your fav show. Bet they get a kick outta that :P Quote
livvy Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I actually told them basically what I just told you. Here's my opening paragraph. As much as I wish I had an impressive answer for such an impressive question, I hold more firmly to honesty than I do to self-flattery. As a high school student, I spend most of my days trying to balance school, homework, sleep, and extracurriculars. I don’t have time to go out and save the world every day, but I do what I can to keep little pieces of it from falling apart. Quote
Tyler. Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I want to major in something to do with computers, but it's years away for me I have a college fund that's pretty big so far Quote
Divya Bean Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Those tests always have one of two results. Either "Wow, I never knew that about myself! :O" or "Wow, I never knew that about myself. <_<" (The latter being with intense sarcasm, in case that didn't carry clearly.) Because Bean, I know you. =P I'm sure you'll let me know when you find the "Get back at Livvy" plans. I dont like those tests. I think I know myself, so I dont need some test that is probably wrong to tell me. <_< :P Ermmm....searching didnt go to well. Quote
Spritzie Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I always had a hard time with college thoughts. I could never decide what I wanted to do. It changed from web design, computer something, lawyer, paralegal, etc. I'm eventually taking some business classes. After that, I have no idea. Quote

I'm a HIGH SCHOOL student, for goodness sake! I don't have time to go out and save the world! I'm busy trying to keep my own little world from imploding! That isn't too hard. I'm a freshman in HS and I could figure something out. Not sure if I would be able to stretch it into 500 words though. Quote
stephiime Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 i'm not much of a leader ... but 500 words isn't too bad at all @_@ Quote
Spritzie Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I've always had trouble keeping my writing under the word limits for things. I just love writing long stuff. I just can't get into writing short stories and such. I love really developing the characters, plot, etc. Quote
Divya Bean Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I am applying for this opportunity at a Museum, and for a few of the essays the limit was 150 words. I cant write only 150 words! My first draft was roughly 700. x_x Quote
The Score in Blue Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Only 150 words?????? That's hardly anything, maybe a couple of short paragraphs. That's exactly why we need good editors. Quote

My first draft was roughly 700. x_x Okay, that is way too few words. What kind of essays are that short? What were some of the subjects for those ones? Quote
livvy Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 That isn't too hard. I'm a freshman in HS and I could figure something out. Not sure if I would be able to stretch it into 500 words though. Alright then, CAV. What have YOU done to save the world? I could do 150 words. But I've always been a very concise writer. I like words; I don't like to waste them where they're not needed. Some people are really good at using words effectively in longer writing, but I'm not one of them. If I try to use a lot of words, I just sound long-winded. Quote
Spritzie Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I think I tend to be a very descriptive writer. It's been so long since I've written anything though. But I always loved long things that I could work on for a long time. I had one story going with a friend, for about 3 years. Quote
livvy Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Hm... I suppose it's more that I can be long-winded in fiction, what with descriptions and setting the scene, but for an essay or report, I tend to be more conservative with words. And since I consider these as essays rather than stories, I write short. Quote
Spritzie Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I haven't had to write an essay in quite some time. I always had to kind of force myself with essays and reports. I don't write well under pressure. Quote
Lego Man Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Good Afternoon everybody who is on TDN right now! ^_^ Quote
Wembly Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Ooo, oo! Pick me. I'm here! Although I forgot that it was afternoon, it gets dark so early these days. Quote
Spritzie Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Hey LM. :) Wembly, I always lose track of time when I'm at work, because I'm in a room with no windows. I leave the room and I'll be surprised to see it's snowing/raining/dark out. :laughingsmiley: Quote
Lego Man Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Yeah, me too sometimes. It's 6:00, yet it feels like its 8. :laughingsmiley: Quote
Spritzie Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I'm bound to be confused for awhile. I just like that it's light when I leave for work at 6:30am. But then it's dark long before I head home. Quote
