Hang Out and Post

Haha, wow. That's actually pretty funny. =] What story are you reading?

I'm multitasking by doing multiple pieces of homework at the same time. I am going to be sooooo tired tomorrow. x_x But I suppose I should be used to it. I've been like that since the start of 10th grade. *sigh* Oh well.

Lol it's funny, because I have a friend who's just like you. She stays up late every night doing homework. 10th grade can't be that hard, can it?

And I was reading "Fourth and Too Long" by Chris Crutcher. His books are actually often censored in schools throughout America since it talks about abusive parents, sex, drugs, gays, and the whole boatload, but personally I really like his books.

Well, when your day consists of an honors class, two Discovery classes (an advanced science and math program), and two AP (Advanced Placement, which is basically college level) classes, yes, it can be that hard. But that's probably because I'm taking more of 12th grade classes rather than 10th grade classes. Either way, it's exhausting.

Sex, drugs, and violence?! *look of mock-horror* Like we don't already hear about that in the hallways? (Which is kind of sad.)

WHOA!!!! The Steelers just made a interception and then ran all 100 yds down! :O Amazing

But yeah, you day does sound tough. Sounds almost like my year next year :(

But I mean, why censor them? They're in schools, they're real. It's better to be exposed to them now than when you're an adult; before you grow up thinking the world is all nice and fuzzy.

Most of the teens I know don't have any notion whatsoever that the world is warm and fuzzy. The books are censored because the people making the rules have a silly idea that we're all still innocent and untainted by the "real world" they so frequently warn us of. They don't realize that we know a lot more than we're given credit for. I mean, I'm still totally innocent, but just from walking through the halls, I've heard a lot about the very things that book was censored for. I think they still want to believe in a world that DOESN'T have that.

? How do you know your schedule for next year already?

Yeah that's the thing. And I know this one kid whose mother completely shelters him from the real world, and he really is innocent and naive. Strange how adults think we should be innocent/naive or think that we still are.

No, but I'm selecting courses, and I'm thinking of taking all honors, doubling up on science, taking German, playing Orchestra, and taking Health, which is required, afterschool. No study halls at all.

Edit: Woot! Page 1500!!!!

I was about to shout what you put in your edit! Thought-thief!!

As for the schedule... Just don't do more than you think you can handle. I'd hate for you to be up as late as I am next year. It's not pleasant. :sad01_anim:

I'll try not too, but I want to do well for getting into colleges, y'know?

Haha, I'm hoping that the Steelers win, but then again, I do live in PA.

And they look like they're going to win too, though the game is only half done. That last touchdown was amazing.

Honors is just a harder class. You learn more, faster. It looks really good for college resumes (which is different from the college where you are), and also puts lovely dark circles under your eyes. =]

It's also weighted though, but 1.05%, which is like a 5% raise in your GPA, which is also good for college

Though, it might be different in Australia. I don't know their school system that well.

I'd actually forgotten about that aspect. =] Where I am, regular classes get you at most a 4.0 GPA. Honors gets at most 5.0, and AP gets at most 6.0. I currently have a... 5.05 I think. :graduated:

Yeah that's the same here. But for some reason this year it's hard to do well in gym. I mean you used to be able to get A's just for showing up, but now, you have to be able to run a mile and a half in under 10 mins to get an A. It's so weird, and I get a B+ every semester in that class, and it's pulling my grade down. I think it's my teacher though. He doesn't seem to be recording grades, he just gives you what he thinks you should get. Like randomly. It's basically his overall impression of you. It's lame :(. But he's a cool guy, so I can tolerate it.

So I'm just stuck with 4.0s I think

Isn't it that you just have to get about a 90% GPA to get a 4.0? We only get shown our overall percentage on our report card.

Correct. Oh, ha, it was funny: the skeleton in our anat. class is really old, so the skullcap and jaw (excuse me, the cranium and mandible) had come off. So we were trying to fix it, and Emily got really crazy with the tape, and the craziness continued. We taped his arms (antebrachia) to his chest (thorax) so they would stay up, and then a tissue box to his hands (manus), so now he's standing there holding a tissue box, and anyone who needs tissues has to get it from him. It was entertaining. =P

No, I don't... I could probably look it up though.

According to Google (the wonders of technology!) :

3.7 - 94-93

3.6 - 92-91

3.5 - 90-89

3.4 - 88-87

3.3 - 86-85

3.2 - 84-83

3.1 - 82-81

3.0 - 80

2.9 - 79

2.8 - 78

2.7 - 77

2.6 - 76

2.5 - 75

2.4 - 74

2.3 - 73

2.2 - 72

2.1 - 71

2.0 - 70

1.9 - 69

1.8 - 68

1.7 - 67

1.6 - 66

1.5 - 65

1.4 - 64

1.3 - 63

1.2 - 62

1.1 - 61

1.0 - 60

0.9 - 59

0.8 - 58

0.7 - 57

But as Polemarch said, it varies by school. The one in my school handbook says something different.

Dang that's pretty tight. I've heard so many things before. That means I have a 3.9 :( I had a 96.75 for my final percentage.

Here's what I found:

Our grade point average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted. Your grade point average may range from 0.0 to a 4.0.

For example:

A=4 grade points

B=3 grade points

C=2 grade points

D=1 grade point

WF/F=0 grade points

Notice how it says "our". So maybe it's different for each school?

And wikipedia:

A+ 4.0

A 4.0

A- 3.7

B+ 3.3

B 3.0

B- 2.7

C+ 2.3

C 2.0

C- 1.7

D+ 1.3

D 1.0

F 0.0

Edit: Oops, didn't see all of those posts ahead of me lol.
