Xepha got a reaction from Lamppost in Forum suggestions
The old topics with new replies are included in the View New Content options ;) Just give it a try, it works great and you can filter it by topics you have been participating in.

You do know that you can go to "View New Content" to see everything new?
My own preferences would be not the be notifed for stuff I have not opted in if I was a newbie.

This. I also can easily find new replied since I toggle each subforum as read (I click the orange button beside it on the home page, and it gets rid of unread notifications for topics). So when that button turns orange again, I know that there is a new reply to something.
I've got to say though, I'm glad that notifications weren't just set to on for me when I started, though I wish I had found them a little earlier.

Xepha got a reaction from Emily in Classic paper books - Time to retire?
I really dislike reading more than a couple paragraphes long on a screen. I tend to print everything (mandatory articles reading for instance) and it never crossed my mind to own a device to read electronic book. There is something in physicallity that I like... a book has a smell, it makes distinctive sounds when you turn a page, when you flap the cover because you are done reading. Clearly, the experience cannot be the same with electronic books.
I also enjoy going to libraries, as they are one of my favorite place to hang out since I'm a child.
I mostly read fiction unless it's for school, so I don't see the need for bookmarking, searching, highlithing and that kind of action. I just want to know the story. :P
So in short, I don't think traditional books should retire, because the demand is still there. I don't know if anyone has mentionned this so far, but whenever digital is involved, there is always a risk that one day the format of your files won't be recognised anymore and you will need to get a new device to read, and so on.

Xepha reacted to hrtbrk in Why is there a limit for "like" button?
So people don't go around liking every post.
Our intention for activating the like button was for users to help recognize helpful or knowledgeable posts/users, as well has have another outlet for people to acknowledge they agree with a post to avoid spamming a topic with simple "i agree *random words to get around 7 word rule* or restating what another user has already said to show your support/agreement.
Since it also reflects a reputation system that can be seen on user profiles, there is a limit that has been added so it's not abused by giving a false sense of reputation (as that's partially why we added the feature.)
At any rate, if I recall correctly, the more posts you have, the more likes you are able to give per day. :)

Xepha reacted to Emily in Neopets Account Help
Hi Everyone!
As Neopets continues to grow and add more exciting things, we all want to play more, whether it's on our phones, at home, at school at work, in Narnia, on vacation, at Grandma's, and anywhere else we tend to hang out. With TNT also spoiling us with fun content, many of us also have side accounts to hold all our extra stuff.
However, TNT also has some strict rules about what is ok and what is not ok regarding accessing accounts and what is allowable/ not allowed on side accounts. Hopefully this thread will help out those who aren't sure what is allowed regarding Neopets accounts.

Account Age Perks/Benefits/Limitations
To find out which specific perks you qualify for, visit our calculator and input your account creation date. You can find this date on your userlookup where it says "Started Playing."
Some general account age limitations for accounts up to 5 months old are as follows:
Additional Perks: These are perks that are granted once your account reaches a certain age and are often referred to as "Loyalty Perks"

Xepha got a reaction from internalxorgans in Spooky Treasure Map?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Collect pieces that you get from random events... but don't invest too much on buying them. It could award you 10 useless spooky foods, or one of the 10 items could worth more than the map. I got a Snorkle Snout when I turned my Spooky Map in :)

Xepha reacted to Emily in Got a warning and I believe I should not have
There's a difference between holiday-themed items and the iconography of the religions the holidays come from. A menorah or a Christmas tree, for example, (at least from my point of view) have much less potential to be offensive than say, a revered religious icon, whether it be a sacred animal, or person. I think this is largely due to the fact that, as we've seen, "religious symbols" or items affiliated with different religions are so dynamic and so ambiguous. Christmas trees, for example are a Germanic tradition, with origins back in ancient Chinese and Egyptian cultures before "Christmas" was ever heard of. What we perceive as religious symbols today have evolved and changed over time, and can mean different things to different people.
Not trying to diminish the relevance or meaning of either, but if you wanted to be really black and white, you could say that having a Sacred Kau wouldn't be that far off from having, say, a Jesus-character pet. Imagine the uproar that would cause?

If you had made a suggestion via a ticket, rather than opening this kind of discussion on the Neoboards, it would not have been the same and you would only have been turned down and not warned.

Xepha got a reaction from Emily in Too old...
Oh hey!
I'm 26. Been playing since I was 16. I would never consider to give up a game that I like and that has played a big role in my life like Neopets. There are enough games that I like that CLOSES with a short or no notice at all... :P
And I don't exactly care about what people would think if they knew I played that game over any other game. XD
