Ohh, surveys! As a psychology student I have come to realise how hard it is to gather participants and now I make sure I always complete studies. Also, I never walk with my headphones in my ears around campus. Painful experience has taught me that that makes people look unapproachable.

tl:dr: If you really care about Neopets, read my post please.
 
Obviously they don't want it to happen. It costs them money. Regardless, Viacom is a multi-billion dollar company. $14.9 billion in revenue last year with over $2.1 billion made in pure profit. Neopets is currently the 5,733rd ranked site on the internet, usually somewhere in the 4-8K range. That's way too much money for a company to make and not be able to keep a site with that kind of traffic online. They don't seem to want to spend the money it would take to make the site more reliable. And no, it's not reliable. This happens all the time. Glitches? Indeed. All over the site, all the time. Some which have existed for years. As a premium member that actually pays money, it's even more frustrating. I'm quite sure there is a rise in traffic due to the "Scores Galore" weekend, and if I know that, surely they should. Plus it's not like this is the first time they've done it, so I'm sure they're aware.
 
And customer service? Forget it. I've never had a ticket replied to or had any questions answered. Even the premium support is basically nonexistent. I even had an incident where a man (predator) sent my young daughter very unsettling neomails. It was like pulling teeth to get this guy frozen and get the legal ball rolling. Of course she too lost her account that she'd worked so hard on for years even though she did nothing wrong. Only thing I asked the legal team for was to please inform me as to how the legal aspects were going... finding the person, charging and prosecuting them, etc. Of course I never heard anything further. Seems crazy that as a parent I had absolutely no recourse but to depend on Viacom to do something. I had no way to go after this guy on my own and make sure he was brought to justice. He made new accounts as well. Hopefully they were all banned, but who knows? He could very well still be on there somewhere. His wife's account is still active. His wife who wouldn't believe me even when I sent her screenshots of the neomails.
 
Google, Facebook, Yahoo, YouTube, Amazon all have sites way more busy than Neopets and I have never seen any of them down. The last month statistics are available (March 2012) Google.com had 176,255,305 unique monthly visitors. Neopets had 765,170. The sad thing is that number has been steadily going down for years. Perhaps there is a reason for that? I personally ran a website consistently ranked in the top 40K that contained no ads and was paid for out of my own pocket and yet my uptime was a lot better than Neo's. Same thing at another site where I was the forum administrator. That site was consistently in the top 2K. Also, with both sites we had shared offsite hosting. We sure didn't have our own data centers.
 
I understand you want to take up for the site as you obviously love it, as do I, but more people really need to say something instead of always giving them a free pass. Constructive criticism is good. In short the site needs a massive overhaul. The coding is clearly in bad need of optimization. The many constant, nagging glitches need to be fixed. Obviously when needing to report such abhorrent behaviors as the one I listed above the process should be much easier and there should be follow ups. Customer service needs a vast improvement. Perhaps they need to hire a large amount of temporary workers to help do the job. Seems like they need to hire more people period. In general it seems the site is maintained, ran and updated by a skeleton crew. If they'd need to take the site down for a few days or even a week, to overhaul it, I'm all for it. Unfortunately that's not likely to happen. Corporations tend to be very short-sighted. They only think about how much money shutting the site down would cost them. How much it would cost to bring temporary coders and programmers on board. The extra money they'd have to spend to keep some more customer service people, coders and programmers on staff permanently. They don't think about the fact that it would bring people back to the site over time. More people to read ads, more to sign up for premium, more to buy neocash. Instead of the number of people visiting dwindling, it would actually increase. In the long run, they'd make their money back and then some. Not only that, but the players, old and new, would be much happier. Even TDN would benefit as more people would be here as well!
 
Neopets has been dying for years. It may not be that apparent to some, but the statistics do not lie. It is something that saddens me greatly. It is something I want to see change. Please, if you truly care about the site do something to try to encourage Viacom to invest in the site as they should. Email them, write them, call them, whatever. Heck, make a Youtube video and address it to them. I know there are others that share my feelings. However, the voices of a few can be easy to ignore, but the voices of hundreds, even thousands can be quite attention grabbing.

I reckon it would be cool being in the content or the customization team. And seeing as the time difference in New Zealand is so great, I'm usually around Neopets at midnight =). But yeah, I'll definitely sort some of the criteria out, and go for it sometime in the future =).

I don't see why :( I think most people here are mature enough to use it sensibly and those that aren't could just have their privileges revoked?

Hugs if you want them! I had the same thing that I wished I could say, but when I did finally say it... it was the best moment of my life. My girlfriend and I are now living together, and we are as happy as can be. I hope that one day you can say it (or the person you like will say it to you!), and you can be as happy. :)

But abortion IS birth control. You are controlling birth, plain and simple. Who knows what circumstances she has been in that has required her to have that many abortions. Why did she have 5-10 abortions, but decide to keep one of her foeti? Without asking her directly, there is no way to know. Perhaps she had a partner that did not allow her to use other forms of birth control, and she had abortions without him knowing. Perhaps she used condoms and they broke. Perhaps she was not aware that taking medication with her birth control pills made them ineffectual. Perhaps she could not afford other birth control at the time.
 
I just can't see female-bodied people choosing to have abortions over and over again as their chosen method of birth control, when other ones are so much easier, if there was not a reason for it.
 
 
I am completely in favour of access to abortions for all people with uteri, no matter what circumstance, no matter what reason.

To be honest I think you're being pretty unfair and negative in the way in which you talk about her. I have a friend who is depressed, has an eating disorder (although she is trying to tell me that she's gotten better), has attempted to commit suicide and also doesn't usually help me out when I have problems- usually it's trying to one up me saying "oh, well that sucks, but look at what sucks MORE in my life." However, she's one of my best friends and I understand that that's who she is. I don't usually talk to her about issues in my life anymore if I know they are going to trigger a competition of who's life is worse, and I'm there for her to listen. I guess that's just the type of person I am though.
 
What I'm saying is you need to figure out whether you really want her in your life as your friend. If you do you need to understand that there are some things, especially if she has a mental disorder, that she isn't going to be able to provide for you. If she's young enough I'd contact her parents and let them know what's going on so that she can get the help it sounds like she desperately needs. Also, suicide isn't something that should be taken lightly and I really think you should think about what you're saying when you say "I just know she is going to commit suicide one day." Personally, I'd be more focused on trying to prevent that than foreshadowing that.
 
All in all you need to do what's best for you, as others have said, and your happiness needs to come first. However, in doing that you need to recognize what she might be dealing with and realize that this friend is definitely different than what you're expecting from a friendship. If she's not able to provide you with what you need then I really do think you should be taking a few steps back and seeing if this is something you should really be involved with.

I'm not sure you are in a position to diagnose her with <insert mental disorder here>.. that's a pretty serious thing to do. it's quite possible that she's just going through a difficult time in her life and the resulting stress and trauma is making her behave the way she is. being sad over small things is not necessarily a sign of Asperger's or depression. in saying that, if she is mentally unwell, I don't think you're being fair on her. I understand that it must be frustrating but you say that you have Asperger's yourself - you must have some idea of how hard it is to deal with that sort of thing. you need to be supportive rather than heckling her, and if you can't deal with it, back away from her, because I don't think having all these negative feelings towards her will do ANYONE any good.
 
as for the support thing, some people just aren't natural empaths, and if that isn't the kind of person you want to maintain a friendship with, then back away.

The mini-games on Key Quest lag a LOT for me and I hardly ever win when I play with random people in the lobby. I prefer to play with my girlfriend because we have the same level of latency with respect to the server and it makes it more fair. It must be noted that the game is indeed mostly luck, though. Make sure you play 5-key games with 2 players only to make it easier on yourself. That way, you'll always get a silver key at the very least, which means guaranteed prizes.

I don't know why gay marriage has to be differentiated from straight marriage. I think marriage should just be marriage. We don't have gay housing or gay driving tests or gay insurance. Marriage is no longer much of a religious institution - a LOT of people diverge from the usual holy matrimony in a church business - and some people get married without any ceremony whatsoever. Marriage is legal, not religious, and everyone should be subject to the same rights under the law, regardless of their sexual orientation (or race, or religious denomination, or any other trait). I have no idea why people have a problem with others getting married (or doing anything, really) when it doesn't affect their lives in any manner zzzzzzzzzz
