  1. I'm actually really impressed.

After they took away random contest, I was really worried they were taking away that side of neopets.

So the fact that they've added site spotlight & beauty contest to the avatar list kinda' shows that they're keeping it & want neopet to be more like that.

  2. Hello!

Sorry for the begging, but the person who lent me MSPP said that they are happy to lend me a super attack pea as soon as I get a pea chia.

Hence, I'm desperately hunting for one right now!

I won't need the pea for very long, and I have lots of trades on my main, so will be able to send the pea back as soon as you need it.

I have just applied for the TDN pea, but if there's a long list for November, I thought I'd at least try on here.

Feel free to message me on my neopets account: blueberrymuffinpops

    Thank you!

(the title is supposed to read "about to be lent" <_< )

  3. I'm saving for BGC collat.

...And then once I have that, for MSPP collat...

...And then once I have that, it'll be SuAP collat.

BUT - once I have finally gotten the big three, and can spend a penny, I'll begin on the stamp avatars, which will probably take forever and a day to get, but... You know...

  4. I belong to a feminist society at my univeristy. (I'm actually a committee member)

I'm incredibly proud to be part of this society, and we run loads of great events (I'll tell you them at the bottom, you should really find out if your local University/college/school has a feminist society, as they're great)

But as someone who has been involved/seen a lot of these discussions, and although I always respect everyone's opinions (even when I disagree with them) I've learnt over the years that sometimes you need to take a step back and accept that some people - because of their experiences - just won't ever be able to reconcile with feminism.

That's ok, but to anyone whose on the fence, or maybe met a few not-so-nice people who have said offensive/ridiculous things under the name of feminism, please give it another chance. Because the best people - the most caring, inspirational & self sacrificing people - I've ever met call themselves feminists. And real life feminist groups and movements do so much good. So you might find online some people who just talk a lot of stuff, but if you come meet us, we support charities, we create learning groups for people who can't afford/access education, we fund & staff domestic abuse centres (for men and women) we do everything we can to help people. And that's so awesome, and I'm sure there's a feminist group near you calling out for an extra hand if you've got some time to spare.

    Ok, events we've run:

I'll start with the ones I've already kinda' mentioned.

    Shelters for the vulnerable.

Our society is very large, and we sponser/support a London half-way home for people who have been homeless because they've run away from an abuser.

The half-way home is actually a number of homes, 5 of which are for male victims. We run events, bake sales, competitions, to raise money for them all year round.

Nearly all our committee volunteers personally with this halfway home, which varies from collecting blankets/items for people, to cooking, to staying overnight as a staff. The majority of us are also University students, so we really do stretch ourselves, and are always hoping to find more people to help.

There's also a smaller shelter that we're involved in, which specialises in helping women and children who are actually illegally-citizens immigrants, are unable to get help because they fear they'll be deported. This puts thousands of people in the most dangerous position you could imagine, and without shelters like this many individuals feel like there are absolutely no way out. I'll not go into too much detail, because I think it would break the forums policy of posts, but this shelter is amazing, and is run purely on donations and volunteers, which is so sad, but it can't get any official help as it refuses to give up names of vulnerable people who would probably be arrested if found by authorities.

    Education.

We run loads of educational workshops.

As we're a University society, we have great resources, and will contact/beg our lecturers to come along and host free/open lectures for people who would unable to access higher education.

We run reading groups, sometimes just focusing on feminist literature (this term we're doing Bell Hooks!) other times on any genre, any books, and we can discuss how there can be problematic aspects of books that we still love. That something can have sexist elements, but that doesn't mean that you have to hate it.

We run consent workshops, we are attended by men & women alike, and even staff.

We run health workshops, give out *health items* (I don't know if we're allowed to talk about adult topics here) but we give them out for free & teach people how to use them safely and correctly.

We run women in STEM, a panel just about supporting women in typically male dominated fields. This can be as simple as meeting with people who have a similar experience as you, or having the panel write complaints on your behalf if you're worried about being treated badly for complaining about maltreatment.

We run black women in feminism talks. Our president is amazing & has got in world leading speakers in to talk about how culture, gender, race & ethnicity work together, how to see people as whole human beings and not just one facet.

    Fun!

Loads of the above actually have really fun aspects to them too, but we also just let off steam.

We have a hockey team, we got on cinema trips. Museum trips. Study sessions.

We have parties, and we picnics. We have poetry nights and collaborate with other societies,

I can't promise that your local group will be as big & varied as ours, but I just wanted to give you all an insight in to what a real - active physical, not just an online personality - feminist looks like.

  5. You can get pretty much any random faerie quest quest from the NC Faerie Quest Fortune Cookie. This includes Fountain Faerie, as has been mentioned, and Faerie Queen, also mentioned. You can also get a Space Faerie Quest, along with any other type of faerie that you can receive random quests from. 100NC for 7 days (7x24 hours) for questing isn't a bad deal. Just remember that if you miss a day, you can't get it back. And that you have to finish the faerie quest you're on before you can accept the next. you can abandon a quest if it's too pricey, or say it's an Air Faerie quest and you don't want to waste the np on speed/agility. ;) Another nice point, is that with the skirmishes in the Battledome. Some of the "boons" you can get to choose from, depending on which faction wins and you've battled at least 10 wins for the winning faction, Allow you to refresh a random faerie quest, gotten at random OR while using a Faerie Quest Fortune Cookie. Explained here, http://www.thedailyneopets.com/obelisk-war/boons/#quests

This effect from this (or any) boon, only lasts while the Truce is in place. A week, I do believe.

I hope this info helps. :)

That's really cool, so you can buy the cookie, not open it (does it work like that? or does it start as soon as you have it?)

and wait until you get the right boon. If you win, activate the boon and the cookie at the same time, & refresh the quests until they are not-so-expensive.

    I might try that :laughingsmiley:

  6. Meh, I really don't take pride in being womanly. I'm a relativity masculine and tomboyish female. Sexist jokes are fine by me. I really dislike feminism.

See, I find this was of thinking very hurtful (although, I do understand you weren't personally trying to cause offence to people)

because sometimes I'm very masculine/tomboyish, and sometimes I can feel really girly (it's like people forget that women are multifaceted human beings that can have a range of tastes) But no matter how I'm feeling on a certain day, sexist jokes always hurt me.

My University, and particularly my course, is majority guys, the majority of my lecturers are guys too. Even when I'm being masculine and *one of the guys* with them, it can be horrid when one of them uses sexism to alienate me and hurt me. And I can sometimes feel resentful for being womanly then, but the truth is, it's not me being a girl that is to blame, it's men thinking that can use that as a weakness and exploit it to make me uncomfortable and get an upper hand.

Anyway, feminism is there to protect women & fight for them, if you don't need fighting for - that's fine, good for you - but don't forget that there are thousands of women who are vulnerable. And it's not just because they are women, they might have a different financial background to you, or race, or live in a different country which is more dangerous.

So I support feminism, not just for myself, but also for those who need it more than me,

  7. Nice to meet you Ellie.

TDN forums is a great place to touch base with, it's SO much easier to find information & keep up with what's going on than following the neoboards.

We're also very friendly, and always trying to answer each other's questions.

You said you're looking to improve you account, which area are you interested in improving first?

  8. Thanks, it just came to me & was my first every attempt.

I'm working on another one right now, but I have so much University stuff on my mind, I find it quite hard to focus on writing.. When really I should be writing an essay.. Or an article for the actual newspaper I work for /laughs.

Thanks for the advice on the comic thing, I just wrote out the *screen play* and dialogue for a comic and sent it to the artist, hopefully they'll remember to include me and that'll be another credit.

Are two people allowed to collaborate on a story as well?

  9. May sound silly, but did you check to make sure you don't already have it? You may have started NQ2 a long time ago and just forgotten about it. It resets after a year I think?

    /face-to-palm.

You're totally right, I did already have the avatar!

I looked on my neosignature list, and it was actually one of the first ones I got, so no wonder I had forgotten.

Well, that's about 3 hours wasted dying to plains lupes when I didn't need to.

    Thank you for the advice!

  10. Hi, so I recently started NQ2 (after playing NQ1 for YEARS) and I've decided to go for the *Weakling * avatar first (as if involved lots of dying and losing your gold)

But, I've been killed by about 20 plains lupes, and still have not got the avatar.

    Am I doing something wrong?

For now I'm just hitting *do nothing for 5 seconds* repeatedly and letting it kill me...

Do I have to attack it a little first?

    Thanks for your help.

  11. I just thought of a quote from Lisa Simpson:

Bart: Hey, Lis, look! They're adding a new character to Itchy & Scratchy! Poochie the dog?!

Lisa: Adding a new character is often a desperate attempt to boost low ratings.

But hey, that's just me (and Lisa). :P

    HAHAHA!

You (and Lisa) are totally on the money there.

But I'm glad they're at least trying to get people's attention.

I do wish they'd fix defenders of neopia first though...

Maybe that'll be the birthday surprise:

    "WE FIXED STUFF!"

  12. If you're going to use ebay, buy items that explicitly say *space faerie code* in the name, and make sure they've got 100% feedback from lots of people (check out whether those people bought the SF code too)

Then buy the item, if they don't send you the code/the right code, then you can message them asking for a refund, and say if they don't give you one, you'll give them bad feedback.

For the record, this is what I did, it worked & now I have her as a challenger ^^.

  13. Thank you for the really awesome response!

Your words actually gave me some real perspective.

I think you're right about articles, sometimes the topics are a little silly, and I wonder if it's because they prefer that writing style, or they rarely get very functioning articles come through for new topics (I can't imagine how many avatar guides they've received)

My first article that was being *held* has now been published!

    http://www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=563738&week=663

I'm now currently working on a new article, and also a comic series with an artist.

The latter is more for fun, so I don't mind if I don't get author credit for it, but does both the *writer* and *the artist* get trophies/credit for comics?

  14.

Agree with you 100%. For a new player it is hard to make more than 10k? per day, but an experienced player who knows what to do could make 1 million NP in a week easily - even on a brand new account.

Unfortunately at the moment, everyone is suspicious of everything.

As a player with a one week old account, I'm discouraged from playing Neopets for precisely the reasons mentioned by the OP in this thread.

I think the easiest way to have people not distrust you is to put a little effort into your account as a newbie.

When I interact with new accounts, I have a look at what their pets look like, the size of their shop (if it's stocked at all) have the put any backgrounds around, updated any of their petpages /etc. etc.

If they've done nothing, I'm very wary, because they could be running a scam.

If they've put in some effort, and look like they're actually here to play neopets on that account, then I'm happier to trade/etc.

  15. The stupid random Avi's. I hate them all! Lever of doom can just kiss my you know what. I've stopped spinning the wheel of knowledge and I won't spin the expensive one.

I come to thread every time it's been updated, because I agree with all of you so much!

Why do random avatars hate me so much?!?

I have been pulling the wheel of knowledge for YEARS.

I nearly always get the spin again (right next to the star) and when I do spin it again, it lands of the *wisdom * tab, so I don't even land on an item,

    /cries.

This is nearly as bad as when I got the black pteri on my FIRST DAY of a side account, and didn't get it for years on my main.

*makes new account to house a couple of new pets... Oh what's that, a random event... !?!!?!?*

  16. I only have 27 avatars. Is that good or bad for someone who has been on Neopets for a year?

I know people who have neopets for 10 years and have less avatars!

It's totally up to you, on what you like about neopets and what it is you want to collect.

There is a general feeling right now that having a *rounded account* is important, which means if you're looking to get lent an avatar pet/item,

or perhaps adopt a pet from someone, then showing you've put effort into your account is important.

Have you used TDN's avatar checklist?

    http://thedailyneopets.com/neoavatars/solutions

The clickables alone should push your count up a little.

However, if you're happy with 27 for now, that's great too!

  17. Finally got the techo cheesy avatar!

    Only took 10 years! (Hah!)

Well, more like 1 year, I've been playing it three times every day I've been on (so maybe... 5 days a week?)

    I followed the TDN guide

and used Quadruple Fudge Cheese (1800 NP) and Dive Left at every move.

I was determined to get an avatar today!

Tried playing cell block, I've been NQing all day & even trying to buy a rare food from the chocolate shop.

So glad that it finally paid off!

Anyway, I just hit 285 avatars!

That was my most recent goal, I guess I'm now aiming for 290.

Anyone feel like lending me a battle pet? (I just got the space faerie as a challenger) or going the whole hog and lending me a BGC for my neolodged grarrl? (collat can be found here) :laughingsmiley: :laughingsmiley:

  18. I've found the game really hard, when I forgot the pass word for my main & began rebuilding on a side I got really good at the game & managed to get the avatar,

when neopets finally got back to me and helped me get into my original account, I abandoned the side (this was before sides were allowed I think) and went back, but have never been able to get scores that high again.

I thought maybe my old/slow computer made it easier...?
