My account got hacked, is there anything I can do?

At first I thought it was just the inventory glitch but doesn't look like it. All the money in the bank is gone, I had a few expensive items in the Trading Post that are also gone, even my pet's equips are gone. :( And there's a few cheap items in my inventory that weren't there before so definitely someone has been messing with my account.
I'm trying to send a ticket but I get an error message: "The page you are trying to access is no longer available."
Is there anything else that can be done?

I already changed my password and put a PIN in my bank account but now it's kind of too late. :sad01_anim:

 

How does Neopets deal with hacked accounts anyway? Is there a way to "revert" the changes made today so my account goes back to the way it was yesterday or is everything permanently lost?

 

I really have no idea how I managed to get hacked, no one should have my password and I haven't clicked any weird links. I'm really sad about this. :(

I'm truly sorry if you got "hacked". I'm glad you still have access to your account, though. I think getting a support ticket in, would be best. I understand you receive an error message, when trying to send a ticket, so, if you don't mind me asking, what browser are you using? I know the Neopets support site can sometimes give error messages, like the one you received, especially if using Chrome. It is usually due to "third party" cookie policies. I may be able to walk you through changing that. I think once you get a support ticket in, and, hopefully list the items you had in trade, amount of NP in the bank, etc, Neopets support can take a look, and, possibly, see what happened. Or, maybe, let you know if it is related to the strange inventory "happenings" on the site. I'd rather hope it is that, vs a hacked account, as that may be easier to restore your account. Again, sorry that happened.

I was also hoping it's just a glitch but it really looks like someone managed to login into my account. I was looking in my SDB and only expensive items like rare stamps were removed. If it was a glitch then everything would be gone, not just expensive items.

 

I'm using Firefox. I just tried sending a ticket in Internet Explorer and got the same error. It's my first time sending a ticket so I don't know if the problem is my browser or not. I've seen other people today having trouble sending tickets so I guess I'll try again tomorrow. I'll be sure to list the items I had and amount of NP in the bank. Thanks for your help!

I use "default" settings in Firefox, with no special plugins, except for ad block plus. I haven't had any issues with the support site. But, if you are still having problems submitting a ticket, tomorrow, post, and I'll see if we can figure something out.

You're probably not logged in to parapature, the help site. If you can't get it to load even on a different browser, you can submit your ticket by emailing them. In your email provide as much information as you possibly can, so TNT has a good understanding of what's happened and what's missing. Their email is [email protected]

If you're able to send in a ticket on the help site, that is the preferred way to go, but whatever method you use, don't send a duplicate ticket through the other way.

 

For future protection, I recommend noscript. I use it all the time on Neopets and it blocks harmful things. I'm not sure if this would have helped in your case, but extra precautions are good. I mostly only have it enabled when I go to the neoboards, petpages and usershops. Basically anywhere that allows a user to post things. My husband finds it annoying so I switch it off for him. It's also recommended you have a PIN, I see you have one now so that's good.

 

For anyone else wondering about account security put a PIN on EVERYTHING!! It can save you a ton of headaches later on! :)

 

Good luck and I hope you get this issue resolved in a timely manner. At least your account isn't frozen and you can still participate in site events like the Daily Dare that just launched today. :)

I had a similar situation happening to me lately. I already had a PIN on everything, but anyway I lost over 90% of my bank account and all the expensive BD stuff I had equipped. Fortunately the SDB and gallery are untouched. I already changed both password and PIN and sent a ticket... But, thinking that it took me 14 years to reach the point I was at, even without all the give outs that exist in the game nowadays... Is a tough feeling... I feel for you and hope you can recover your items...

Thanks everyone for your help. I managed to send in a ticket today by using a friend's computer, the ticket page still wouldn't load on mine. Hopefully everything will be resolved soon.

I'm checking out noscript and downloading right now! Thank you! I'm glad I still have my account but after losing so much I feel a bit unmotivated to do the Daily Dare. :mellow: It's depressing. But I guess I'll do it and hope Neopets manages to recover my items and NPs at some point.

I feel for you as well!! It really is awful. I feel that even if I played for another 10 years I wouldn't be able to get back to what I had before. I hope both of us can have our items back!

My account was recently hacked as well. With help of TNT I got access to my account again so I'm really grateful for that. Although all the items and NP that were stolen were not returned. I must say I didn't ask them if they could be returned. I'm just saving again to get it all back.

Don't be demotivated for new events though, they give out unique items and never to obtain again trophies!
