teeniem55
I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were. In the day and age of the tablet, are you surprised that Neopets hasn't developed an app? I know most of the game is based in flash, but you'd figure they get with the times. Does anyone think they eventually move forward and develop an app? Thoughts?
.Brianna.
I'm fairly certain TNT mentioned that there is a mobile app in the works, just not sure when it is going to be released.
Rune Valentine
TNT has actually expressed their intent of bringing Neopets to mobile, they even had a survey up to help name the mobile app back in February. They haven't indicated a release date, though. But for sure one is in the works
teeniem55
Well, that's good to hear. I just got my account back in May, so I wasn't aware of that. I wonder if it will be a pay app or free. It would be nice to be able to do daily's on the run, for sure.
Rune Valentine
To be honest, I wasn't even considering a paid app for Neopets! Gosh. I would be very annoyed if they charged for a "premium" version of the app. :shiftyeyes_anim: But they'll likely have one out for free, we've been waiting long enough :P Mouseykins
maikrowsoft
In my opinion, Neopets can't even get their website working right - which should be their main focus instead of building an app. Duskitty and .Brianna.
Venerian
I'm curious about the app though. It'll make it way easier to be more active on Neopets for me. I didn't consider a paid app either, but I think I would pay (if it's not too much, just a small amount). However, I think they first have to test it. If it doesn't run properly it would be a waste for a lot of people. I mean, I would pay for other apps wich I use a lot. I would pay for it if it is a one time payment. As in, you don't have to pay like every month. But. I think they'll have one for free :P I mean, using the site is free why make a paid app then? maikrowsoft
All their Flash and Shockwave portions (including games) won't work on Mobile though. If they do indeed have a mobile app it'll probably be extra content, likely revolving around Lutari Island. Not that easy to convert the entire site to a mobile app especially when it's so buggy. fishmonster
I definitely don't have high hopes for any app they end up putting out.. my phone probably sucks too much to use anything properly anyways, haha. I just can't think of anything that would be more appealing for me in app-form than if it was just on the website.
Venerian
Ah, ofcourse. Well maybe the extra content will be fun. You know, perhaps. Pity that the games etc won't work then :( I don't really have knowledge about apps. But in that case I agree with maikrowsoft. I would rather see a good updated site then a new app with new content. I'm still gonna try it out though, when it's finally here :P
dawnshine
What are the "site issues" you'd like to see worked out before a mobile app is born? I frequently see users making complaints about "site issues" but I'm always unsure what they are. The site seems to work okay for me. Sure, it's not perfect but I even pay for Premium and still don't expect perfection on any front. I don't have a smart phone or a tablet so I probably wouldn't use the app, esp. if it costs money, but I would like to see Neo get with the times and make an app. If they want any future with younger generations they're going to have to adapt to the new media that is overtaking traditional laptops and computers. Anime
I don't know what they're going to do about games- that's likely something they're discussing/will discuss as part of development- but even without games the way they talk about the app it sounds like you'll be able to do basic things on the go, like dailies, neomail, the boards.... They may even have app-only games instead. And besides, even if the games were capable of being ported based on file type, that doesn't mean they're playable on mobile applications, nor does it mean they'd be fair, which would lead to not reaching them regardless. Also, I, too, and curious about the "site issues" referenced. I mean, the site isn't perfect, but it's functional. There are rarely ever bugs that cause basic play to be impossible, and when they happen they're fixed quickly. Wildbreeze
Ranaki
With how easy it is to hack anything - For those that KNOW how to hack - I'd be wary to do to anything that required to log on anything to my phone... Even NeoPets...
KyokoHateshinai
I have a feeling that it'll be a while before it comes out though, and even if it does it'll be slow (especially with key quest) I sometimes do go on neopets on my phone! I remember playing dice-a-roo on it :) O and visiting the turmy on my phone during class hehe
maikrowsoft
Regarding the site issues, I'm a mobile developer and to bring a website to a mobile platform the site usually needs to be ready for a mobile experience. Neopets is far from HTML5 compliant, with IE8 compatibility view being forced, extremely heavy reliance on Flash (and Shockwave). The easiest way Neopets can bring most of the functionality to a mobile platform easily is through a web wrapper (e.g. PhoneGap / Cordova), but if the main site itself has less than half the functionality on mobile platforms (without flash games or even wheels), that experience is just going to be substandard. Building a native app would then result in a complete overhaul of the site protocols (which will probably result in the site getting overhauled as well), or simply have a different set of functionality from the current site. nightfall8705
I'd rather the site itself be fixed first before there's even talks of an app. Besides, an app really wouldn't be my thing anyway. I don't use my phone nearly as much as I do my computer... so I guess I am indifferent. I would, however, love to see something be done about Lutari Island. They need to either fix it or get rid of it. Personally, I'd love to visit it and see what it has to offer, but there's more important issues the site needs to be addressed first. maikrowsoft

Avia loves Chias
Building a native app would then result in a complete overhaul of the site protocols (which will probably result in the site getting overhauled as well), or simply have a different set of functionality from the current site. it could just be for social aspects like neomail and neoboards and possibly auctions and trading. that's all that the WoW app does, and people are happy with it in general.
maikrowsoft
But the Neomail and Neoboards are terrible. They can't even code the filter system right :(
chizLemons
Well, what if they just made a "lite" version of neopets for mobile? It doesn't need to be the whole site. There's a lot of browser games that could work well, like Neoquest, and most dailies. Of course I'd love if the site worked perfectly overall, but it's probably different teams working on the app, right? They don't necessarily need to stop working on the website to do it! I'd be pretty happy with a Lutari Island app already. I hope it comes soon. :)
chelperk
Well, that's good to hear. I just got my account back in May, so I wasn't aware of that. I wonder if it will be a pay app or free. It would be nice to be able to do daily's on the run, for sure. I play neo quite a bit from my iPhone and have TDN bookmarked, do my dailies and sometimes restock a bit by searching with the basic SW and going to whichever shop based on my item search. It's not the fastest or most convenient way, but it works!
Tam
I do a lot of my dailies on my IPad already and would love an app. I would pay for a one off purchase but the in-app purchases drive me crazy.
