-Ryan Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I've been wondering about that too. Maybe that happens when they're replying. Edit: Spritzie beat me to it. :P I think anonymous people just disapear from the bottom when they reply, though. :O Quote
Divya Bean Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Ugh, I hate work. I need time for play! :laughingsmiley: Ohhhh thank you! Now I know when to wait so I dont have a post lag. EDIT: And...I got post lagged. :rolleyes_anim: Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I'm going into one of the best high schools in the state of NY. I'm feeling smarticle. Quote
-Ryan Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I have a theory. I think that when you start going on the internet when young, you tend to be smarter depending on who you chat with and more mature depending on how harsh the people you meet are. Notice how most of the TDNers are in honors courses or were. :P Quote
Spritzie Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I went to the only HS that had an IB program at the time. I took honors classes. And I can proudly say... I hated it. I hated school. I always have. I'm just glad to be out. Quote
Unstream Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 That's cool CAV. Private or Public school? Our school was considered one of the top 500 public high schools in the country. It was pretty cool  Our school just applied for IB courses, so we'll only get it my senior year, and since it's a two-year program, I won't be able to take it :( School isn't bad though. I take all honors and I practically sleep through class. I can't wait for AP. Maybe it'll be enough to keep me conscious :P Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I hate school too, but when something needs to be done, I step up to the challenge. And this is why I'm going to one of the best schools in the state. Public. But it has the education of a private school. Have you heard of the specialized high schools in NY? Quote
Divya Bean Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Same here! I am going to a top school. :graduated: And lol, Ryan. I like your theory. :laughingsmiley: Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I'm sure that my school is in the top 500. Then again, I think all 7 of the specialized high schools in NY are. Quote
Spritzie Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 My honors classes, were actually my favorites. The rest were boring. I was so upset when I graduated with a 3.94 GPA. I was not amused at all. <_< My tutor screwed up some of my grades and gave me Bs that should have been As. The school refused to fix them too. Quote
Unstream Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I haven't heard of specialized high schools. Didn't know you could really pick which public school you went to either - usually it's based on where you live. Ah that stinks. But a 3.94 isn't a bad GPA either. Quote
-Ryan Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I enjoy my honors language arts class alot, only place I can get some decent time to read, plus, secretly I enjoy writing assignments. And Avid is fun as well. Only class I know where you get to volunteer at a fair, spend multiple hours on google reading Chuck Norris jokes, or going outside and figuring out how to get 24 kids across a sidewalk without touching it using only 2 small peices of wood. Plus, we all got free tickets to a baseball game once. b) Quote

It usually is based on where you live, but you can go to other schools. I had a friend that lived really close to one school, but she went to the one I did. (She wanted a better orchestra program.) But I wanted my As!!! And I can top you all. I didn't go to it, but Colorado has the # 1.... party school in the nation. (College) :laughingsmiley: I don't know if it's currently #1, but it has been for quite a few years. Quote
Divya Bean Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Goodness gracious, I just realized that we are talking about school during the summer! :ohno: Lol! In my MS, the only advanced thing that they have is math. I am in the double-advanced track so I wont be behind in HS. :graduated: LOL Spritzie! Quote

Didn't know you could really pick which public school you went to either - usually it's based on where you live. To get into a specialized high school, you have to pass the test. It was hard, but I did it. And when I was given the offer, I accepted. Quote
livvy Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 XKCD - unquestionably the best. Ever. Will, you'll do well in AP classes. If you're breezing through honors, then you'll enjoy APs. I've taken a lot of them, and they're sufficiently challenging. (The amount of coursework depends on the teacher though.) I have no idea where my school is ranked, but we're a pretty good school in South Carolina. We've got AP but not IB, and a couple magnet programs. (I'm finally done with the tough years of Discovery, yes!) Quote
Unstream Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 That's cool. I don't think they have any specialized high schools around here though. Our school is really bad with its gifted programs. APs are only available after sophomore year, and even then the selection is really limited until senior year. And the gifted programs themselves are practically non-existent. But on the bright side, we have one of the best facilities in the country too. I don't know what magnet programs are either :P And yay! Someone supports my support of xkcd :D Quote
livvy Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Wow, really? At my school, APs are available freshman year! Only a few, but they're available nonetheless. I took an AP my freshman year. o_O Magnet programs are programs that attract students to the school. They're usually focused on some subject or pair of subjects. (Discovery is very math/science focused.) Quote
Unstream Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Lucky. Apparently our school delayed APs so that people would do better at them when the time came. And they have prerequisites such as you have to take Honors Chem before you can take AP Chem, and so on. Hm, sounds interesting, but I don't really get it. Aren't they kinda like normal courses? IrishLiz Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 *poofs in* Hi! Nah, I'm just allergic to morning I think I am too. Stop talking about early mornings. It's bad enough I've been getting up at 5:30 for work that last 4 days. Then the last 4 days have been 12 hour work days. And I still have to get up at 5:30 for work tomorrow too. Though it's only a 6 hour. :crying: eeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww I must mention that xkcd is unquestionably the best comic ever. Seconded! Or I guess thirded now? I LOVE that comic. This one, which is recent, made me laugh because it's true. Good err...bad?? I want a job, but not a hard one. Ideas include:writer, teacher, comic strip writer, editor, rocket scientist, composer, musician(tubist, clarinetist, pianist), conductor, scientist, mathematician, Neopet worker/designer/coder, manager of a very important company, owner of a fast food chain, etc. I got a LOT of possibilities Well, if you don't want it to be hard, from experience I would say definitely cross out scientist and composer/musician/conductor... conductor might be the easiest of the three though (that's a bit of a joke). Or maybe I'm just a bit jaded. I got college degrees in both, and they were not easy. :graduated: I've looked at a zillion careers in both. I'm going to grad school to be a scientist though, and I do really love both disciplines, so on the other side, I think it was totally worth it. That's a pretty good list of jobs though. :) No, it's a college preperation class. So hard to get into too. T-T And unless you live in California or states close to it I doubt you've heard of it... In 6th your teachers select a few kids from your school to be considered, then you get interveiwed, then you have to get 2 written tacher recomendations, then you write an essay about why you want to join the program thing, and THEN they decide who gets in. -headdesk- Only 24 people got in though and i'm extremely suprised I made it. Congrats on getting in! My high school doesn't have the IB program. I just took AP and dual enrollment college courses. My honors classes, were actually my favorites. The rest were boring. I was so upset when I graduated with a 3.94 GPA. I was not amused at all. <_< My tutor screwed up some of my grades and gave me Bs that should have been As. The school refused to fix them too. Nooooooo! That stinks. That would drive me nuts. I got one B in high school because my physics teacher was a stinker, and I was so mad. She didn't like me at all. :sad01_anim: I still had above a 4.0 though because honors/AP classes were weighted. (College) I don't know if it's currently #1, but it has been for quite a few years. Yeah, I can understand wanting your As. My college was the top party school at one point, and has been at least in the top 10 for a while. They're trying to get rid of that image though. Part of the problem is that it's just HUGE. I had to delete some emoticons before I could post this. Quote
Divya Bean Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Hi Liz! Wow, that was a lot of replying! Haha. My HS doesnt offer APs until Sophomore year, but you can do a kinda of advanced thing in Freshman year where you basically sit in on an older class. Quote
jumpingbeans Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I don't know what any of you are talking about, but: I helped start a school conversation! Go me! Go me! Quote
Anisha Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Wow. You guys talk a lot. :O But I am too lazy to read. Anyway, hi everyone! ^_^ But I might poof in no time though. :shiftyeyes_anim: Quote
jumpingbeans Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Greetings fellow earthling. You come in peace? Good. We do not. We leave you in pieces. P.S.Liz I will un-think my thinking of thinking of becoming a thinking scientist-thinking. Quote
CAV of Gang Green Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I've been online the whole time. I'm just playing Burnout Paradise at the same time, and I got caught up in playing that. Quote
