Random and Slightly Questionable Fact From Revenge Time!

In some asian customs (I forgot which ones), if a family's son dies prematurely without ever being married first, the parents will look for a dead woman who has also never been married to arrange a postmortem wedding. There will a ceremony, wedding cake, the whole shebang at the bride and grooms relocated graves next to eachother.

I just hope the parents don't expect any grandchildren soon after. x_x

Which Asian culture is it? It's not Chinese, and probably not Japanese...

Though, I wouldn't be surprised. Some customs are really strange.

Really? Woah, that's a little... weird... I imagine there are no wedding vows? Do they throw cake in the graves? Hm... curious...

Other culture's customs are fairly interesting... Of course, I'm sure they'd say the same things about our customs too.

Like unconsciously getting a cart whenever you go to a store, even if you're just getting one or two things.

Or the ritualistic hour long "It's Getting Close To Dinner, What Are We Having?" conversation.

Yes, America rocks.

Haha, yea. Especially the cart thing. As for the dinner conversation (which is of course, ritual), they'd probably be surprised that we have so many choices that we actually have to take an hour to figure out what we're eating. :guiltysmiley:

Oh yes, America is amazing.

Lol I bet there are so many that we don't even think of unless we try really hard.

Like funerals and birthdays. Those are two customs that might not be able to be understood by people that have never had any contact with us.

It takes me 20 seconds to figure out what I am eating. I take four seconds to figure out what I am in the mood for, 6 seconds to walk to the pantry/fridge, and 10 seconds to quickly scan to find something that matches best what I want.

How about the custom where we throw away items in perfect working order because they aren't they newest technology?

Or if you wanted a funny one instead of a serious one...I know for a fact people in other countries find Mardi Gras pretty interesting. LOL.

Well, you have that all planned out nicely, don't you Laura? It takes me forever. I usually figure out what I want for dinner at around 10 AM, and by the time I get home from school, I've already forgotten. So I have to start the whole process over again.

I hadn't even thought about the funeral ritual. Yea, it would seem rather bizzare. We dress the body up in really nice clothes and put it in a fancy box, then we sing to it and talk about it and give it flowers, and then we bury it in the fancy box and nice clothes. It does seem pretty weird when you break it down like that...

EDIT: Grr, posted late.

Haha yeah, and the Olympics.

Sports in generally really, especially ones like wrestling. Maybe the other people are all pacifists and will be terrified that we call wrestling a recreational sport :P

And yeah, that's what I mean. Funerals are kinda weird when you think about it.

Well, its a habit to us from the things we see around us, what we're taught from parents, friends and society, different routines so if we were to live somewhere else for a while, I guess we would change as well.

The Olympics? Everyone knows about that. And there is some good knowledge of American sports all around.

How about sweet sixteens? That's pretty weird when you think about it.

*HUGE GASP*

TEXTING! That's as weird as you can get when it comes to America.

Depends really. Nowadays, technology has caused cultures to be intermixed. Just about anywhere in the world, you'll still have major rituals like funerals and birthdays.

And I know I'm not going to be able to celebrate my sweet sixteen cause my parents think birthday parties are a pointless waste of money. I just get $20 or so.

Well, if we all went somewhere else right now (it would be totally amazing because then I could meet my TDNF friends in real life! :) but aside from that...) we still wouldn't consider our native customs odd. We'd stop thinking the other customs were odd eventually, but we would still consider wasting a perfectly good set of clothes and a really fancy box on a dead person perfectly normal.

Oh, my sweet 16 was... meh. Most people forgot it. I haven't had a birthday party since I was... 10, I think. =\

Ech, posted late again! =[
