Honesty is always the best policy.

Which feelings- his feelings towards you, or being queer? I saw some of your posts in the gay marriage thread- you clearly don't have much respect for people whom are queer. Quite frankly, I would be surprised if he would be able to get over his anger towards you for the way you will be treating him.

    YES YOU ARE.
Your friend was being a GOOD friend. He was being truthful, and sharing things with you that were important to him, things that were weighing on him, and were difficult to talk about. YOU are the one that is blaming it on him, and ending the friendship over it.
The end of this friendship falls on no one but yourself.

It would hurt HIM more if you just ignore him. Clearly you're showing how little you care about him.
Your poor friend. He doesn't deserve this.

If he was your best friend he wouldn't have been honest with you? I don't think that's how friendships are supposed to work.
He probably expected that you would not feel the same- queer people usually don't think their straight friends will suddenly want them. He probably just wanted to be honest with you, share something that has been troubling him. If I were you, I would be happy that my friend trusted me so much.
So, while he may have been a bit hurt that you didn't reciprocate the feelings-- unsurprised, but unrequited feelings always hurt-- losing your friendship is going to hurt him a LOT more.

Wow. From the sound of it, I think your friend is better off without you in his life.
You clearly have no idea how hard it can be to tell someone you're queer. It took me years to tell my closest friends, and years more to tell my family. It was hugely traumatic- I kept having nightmares that everyone I cared about would reject me, and I would have no one left to turn to. I was lucky- no one did.

A friend of mine told me that she had feelings for me as well, and I am so glad that she did, even though I did not reciprocate the feelings at all- it explained why she had been a little weird with me, and I appreciated that she cared about me enough to be honest with me.

If you want to cut off ties with your friend, then do him a favour and tell him that. Don't just ignore his facebook messages and phone calls. That is low, and mean. Your friendship should have meant more.

This company makes me SO ANGRY. Not only are they friggen bigots that can't deal with people just wanting to get married to the people they love, just wanting to be able to NOT GET FIRED from their jobs for being queer, but their CORPORATE DOLLARS go towards a council that actively SUPPORTS countries that want to make homosexuality punishable by death. This was kind of touched on in the article the OP linked to, but I hope people will understand how serious this is.

This isn't about "free speach". This is violent hate and bigotry. Seeing pictures of people lining up to support this company makes me sick to my stomach, and fear for my queer brothers and sisters everywhere.

I just want to say, that I appreciate you guys so much. So many of the people on TDN are such fantastic allies, and I appreciate the fact that this is a pretty safe space. Rainbow cookies for you all.

Hi there, and welcome to the TDN forums! :D -offers cookies-
(Personally, I would get my dream pet first, then get the lab map. Zapping is tonnes of fun, but it's nice to have a pet you already want before you start zapping and get nothing but stat changes! LOL. Also, waiting will give you a chance to find some pieces on the floor, or through Key Quest. :))

Rebecca~ got a reaction from Mouseykins in What's with the 7 word warning?
This is one rule I really like actually- even though I sometimes break it. XD I don't always notice that a post only has six words in it before I post, lol.

Without this rule, I think that TDN wouldn't be nearly as awesome as it is. When I look at news posts especially, I am tempted to just say "Oh, I like!" or "Ick", or something similar. Because of the 7 word rule though, I stop and think about what it is I like or don't like. Do I not like a new colour because it just isn't my taste, or do I think it was badly designed? What about new petpet colours do I like? Stuff like that. Having the 7 word rule generates discussion- if you can't find a way to get seven words in there, it's just not worth posting.

Jeepers, this guy sounds like a real prize. Children's AID laws can change from area to area, and I don't know if this would technically be against the law but I would report it anyway. This guy should not be allowed to care for children, and quite frankly, he should be fired as well.

Okay, so I'm such a terrible Canadian that I forgot that it was Canada Day yesterday until I remembered that I didn't have to go to work today.
So a belated post to celebrate some of the cool things about Canada.

    1) Canada is really, really pretty.

And Canadians are a little strange.

We have gay marriage (and universal health care, and free access to abortion. Whoo!).

Our Conservative leader is still about as progressive as the US' Democratic leader.

(I still hate you, Harper, but thank you for not being scary conservative.)

The world sees us as being polite. That's pretty awesome. :)

Also, we are really big. :)

So yay for Canada. Most Canadians I know are pretty apathetic most of the year, but most of us would rather not live anywhere else.

That is a terrifying thought. The rapist should be in prison, not taking care of a child. And frankly, forcing the woman to give birth is such an invasion of her bodily autonomy. There are many more health risks giving birth than there are related to abortion, and every day for the pregancy that foetus would be a reminder of her rape.

I don't understand why so many people think that as soon as abortion is legalised that everyone is just going to go have unprotected sex willy-nilly. It has been completely legal in Canada for decades, and paid for completely by our healthcare system. If you are a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident, aged 12 or over, your abortion is free, and doesn't require parental approval.
Even with this free access to abortion, none of my heterosexual friends in sexual relationships are relying on abortion as their only form of birth control. They all understand that some people find abortions to be extremely difficult, psychologically. In fact, the only person I know who has had an abortion (well, several in her case) was a high school acquaintance of mine that had been raped, was a drug user, and had a lot of problems in general. I shudder to think of what any foetus she had to carry to term would end up like.

Access to abortion is about a female-bodied person's right to choose, nothing else. It does not matter if YOU would get one. It does not matter if you would want your girlfriend or wife to get one. It doesn't matter if you think that giving the infant up for adoption is a better plan.
The only thing that it comes down to is if you think that someone should be allowed to decide for themselves if they want to carry a foetus to term.

And if you still say no, think about this.
How would you feel if other people started telling you that you HAD to donate an organ to someone. Regardless of your wishes, they were going to force you to have an operation, and they were going to remove one of your kidneys. The fact that it would impact your life has no meaning to them -- when you only have one kidney, you shouldn't drink too much, etc. The fact that you would have to recover from the surgery doesn't matter to them. What if you get an infection? What if there are complications? Doesn't matter.
You're giving life to someone -- doesn't that trump your wishes?

Now compound that -- pregnancy is more than just a surgery. It is a nine month long process that plays with all aspects of a female body. Not only are there chances to the body afterwards, but there is post-natal depression, tonnes of disorders and diseases that can come out of the the pregnancy (high blood pressure, etc). It changes your life completely for those nine months - you can't drink, you can't smoke, you have people invading your personal space all of the time (unwanted touching of your belly by strangers, ultra sounds, etc). And then you have to give birth, which is extraordinarily painful.

I have issues with people being forced to do almost anything - I believe in every person choosing what is right for them as much as possible. Having such an invasion of bodily autonomy be enforced is just abhorrant to me.

I had heard about the first case, the one man eating the face of the other, but not of the subsequent cases. Those poor people, what a horrific thing to have to go through. I can only imagine what kind of horrible hallucinations they were having. :(
I don't think that we need to worry about any kind of drug induced zombie apocalypse. As it is a drug, it will wear off in a certain amount of time, and it's not like it can be passed from person to person through attacks. It's horrific, but not the end of the world.

Hugs if you want them! I had the same thing that I wished I could say, but when I did finally say it... it was the best moment of my life. My girlfriend and I are now living together, and we are as happy as can be. I hope that one day you can say it (or the person you like will say it to you!), and you can be as happy. :)

But abortion IS birth control. You are controlling birth, plain and simple. Who knows what circumstances she has been in that has required her to have that many abortions. Why did she have 5-10 abortions, but decide to keep one of her foeti? Without asking her directly, there is no way to know. Perhaps she had a partner that did not allow her to use other forms of birth control, and she had abortions without him knowing. Perhaps she used condoms and they broke. Perhaps she was not aware that taking medication with her birth control pills made them ineffectual. Perhaps she could not afford other birth control at the time.

I just can't see female-bodied people choosing to have abortions over and over again as their chosen method of birth control, when other ones are so much easier, if there was not a reason for it.

I am completely in favour of access to abortions for all people with uteri, no matter what circumstance, no matter what reason.
