  1. I am embarrassed to admit I'm rewatching Grey's Anatomy. I used to watch it ages ago (stopped around season 10 based on my netflix history) and stopped because of how ridiculous it got with plotlines and drama. But now I'm enjoying it as a silly little break from reality. It's been a wild ride and I'm only up to season 12 our of the 19 they have on netflix 🤣

Hello!! Do you know the avatar is still obtainable? I just spend like 5h refreshing with 8 drackonacks and nothing.

Since the new neopets layout, the avatar is unobtainable 😞 There was a workaround for a while where you could go to the "old inventory" but you can't do that anymore. Hopefully they'll fix it soon though!

  3. What I like to do to find new avatars to work on is go to TDN's avatar lists and sort by least rare first (like this https://thedailyneopets.com/neoavatars/solutions?category=8&sort=commonest for games), since that will show you which avatars a lot of people have. I figure those will be easiest for most people, myself included. I'm personally not great at games but got a few just from playing games I like a lot (like snowmuncher, whack a kass, etc). The puzzle/luck ones are the easiest for me. Not sure if you'd count them as "game" avatars but the ones like poogle racing, grrarl keno, shapeshifter, double or nothing, etc. are pretty easy, just take some time. For the flash games, everyone is good at different ones. I would suggest going through the least rare list and playing each game a few times to gauge your innate skill, and keep playing the ones you're close to the avatar score for.

  4. Since coming back to neo I've been able to work on getting some dream pets and imagining new ones! Here's a short list of my obtained favs and goals:

Yasaj: My cute magma kougra with a valentine's bow and snow/xmas clothes for seasonal looks! I'm thinking of eventually painting her candy or woodland but I do love the magma for now

Spudoggo: I recently made this halloween lupe which was my dream pet as a kid, because werewolves are AWESOME! It was kinda an impulse creation when I was thinking of gallery themes and now I'm  in love with her. She lives in a cave and only eats potatoes. I love making backstories for my pets 😆

mimma I managed to get my 19 yr old account back after having it be frozen for a long time. I am excited to have mimma back, he was one of my favorite pets back then. He /was/ a ghost kyrii with a robot chassis on him, but with the frozen account return rules, the robot chassis technically got deleted. His picture still shows it because I haven't customized him since and a goal of mine is to get another set of robot chassis to put on him so I can change his background/add stuff if I want! I can't believe his old art/petpage made it through in tact lol. I'm too nostalgic to change it for now

    Future Goals:

My biggest dream right now is a potato chia to match Spudoggo, which is ironic since I'm not a fan of chias but it would be such a perfect companion to her!

I also want a nice Eyrie but I'm not sure what color I like best. Maybe an eventide, or transparent. Or plushie! I do want to have at least one plushie pet.

  5. Seeing all these achievements is so inspiring! Today, my biggest achievement was finally getting some more item avatars so my count is above 200! I'm sitting at 203 now and pretty happy 🙂 Makes me less sad that I lost my oldest account years ago that I think had 250+ ... I'll get back there again soon enough!

  6. I have a pet UFA, Tuskaner the Island Tuskaninny 🙂

He was a pound stuck pet that I adopted and zapped, and after only a couple zaps he turned island and I couldn't be happier! I'd love for him to go to a forever home but if you just like the name and want to zap/paint/trade/etc him I don't mind. I'd just love for this guy to find a nice home since he has a great name. Send me a message here or on neopets if you're interested

  7. Hello, TDN! I'm coming back to neopets like many of y'all and found I could get into this old TDN account! SWEET! I gotta say I cringed for a good ten minutes reading through my old posts lol... But I'd lived and learned and decided to come back to neopets for this exciting new era. And that includes coming back to these forums to hang out with some fellow cool cats! I've been back to neo for about a month now and really loving the new features and updates and am excited to see where they go from here. Hopefully with less lag and site crashing! I'm mostly working on building up some wealth (TY food club!) and catching up on avatars and such. I finally passed 200 avvies on my account! And I actually finished a game of plushie tycoon without going bankrupt! 15 year old me would be so jealous. Hope you all are enjoying the "new neopets" as well ❤️

  8. Welcome (back) to the TDN forums! I'm in a similar boat, played neopets as a kid but stopped playing a while back. I recently came back and found I already had an account here! Makes my life a bit easier lol 🙂 I've been having a lot of fun getting back into neopets and I'm glad to hear you have too! Do you have any neo-goals (making np, dream pets, collections, etc?) now that you're back?

  9. I think it's a dumb thing that parts of the fandom refuse to let go of. Introducing a new type would throw the existing type chart into havoc and likely unbalance things (Steel and Dark were added TO balance it, in an effort to nerf the overpowered psychic and provide more weaknesses and strengths to other types that were tipped a little too far in one direction or the other when they shouldn't be). On top of that, the basis of a "fairy" type specifically baffles me some. What would it have that isn't covered by Normal, or Flying, or Psychic? And people list Pokemon that would be changed to be fairy instead of their current types, such as Clafairy, Jigglypuff, and Chansey. All three are perfectly fine as normal types and top the lists simply because they're pink and fluffy. A lot of what I've seen selects the sweet, cute and/or feminine Pokemon to be fairy, completely nixing the fact that in most old lore, fairies are vain, vindictive brats who love nothing more than causing trouble.

Um excuse you. Have you seen jigglypuff in the series? That little marker-wielding diva is plenty vain and trouble-causing. Of course it's not quite the same as old lore, but nothing about pokemon is very close to old lore about anything(correct me if I'm wrong on this), so why should fairy type be? Now that fairy type is official, The fairy pokemon list doesn't seem too much like they're sticking to cute/fluffy/pink/etc pokemon. Although the pokemon fandom and the pokemon creators are very different entities. I trust the pokemon creators to make fairy type into a cool and useful game mechanic. I personally love what I've heard so far about fairy type. More on that below.

So there's an official Fairy type, which happens to include Sylveon.

I really really really hate that they're making a new type.

It's super effective against Dragon and it'll have Gardevoir, Marill, and Jigglypuff.

At least Dragon has a weakness now.

And there's two new Pokemon (presumably Fairy type) called Noivern and Vivilion. Noivern's some eagle-bat thing and Vivilion's a butterfly.

Also, the scheduled release date is October 12.

    Aaaaaand that's it I guess.

Why did you assume the two new guys are fairy? It's already been revealed that neither of them are. Although you obviously didn't know that when you posted. Anyways, I think a new type is a great idea(although I do wish they'd gone with light instead of fairy -.-''')! I look forward to seeing some other fairy pokemon. Seeing as we don't have too much info on fairy type yet, I'll reserve ultimate judgement until later. I don't know, maybe they'll do something to turn me off the type but right now I'm leaning towards really loving it (idea-wise at least. I don't think that I could use them regularly. I'll stick to my fire and dragons types, thank you very much!). Also, my friend told me she thought it'd be cool if Fennekin evolved to be fire/fairy. I don't think it'll happen, but I'd love to see a fairy fox!

I forgot about Ice. But either way, neither Ice or Dragon are very commonly found in the game. They're usually both at near-end game, which by that point you probably have a full team of 6 already and have no need for an Ice or Dragon type.

Which is what I was saying, Dragon has a more common weakness now. From the looks of it, Fairy-types are found near the beginning of the game.

^^THIS! My main love for fairy stems from wanting to even the type advantages. I tend to devalue same-type weaknesses because in order to fully take advantage of them (using a dragon type pokemon with a dragon type move) you are also putting yourself at risk to have a super effective move used against you. :P I know someone mentioned electric is also unbalanced, but I feel dragon is in more dire need of evening. It is resistant to 4 very popular types(including all the starter types), and, as you said Khaos, only weak against rarer types.

  10. I am going to have to politely, but strongly, disagree. Watching only the movies makes you a fan of the movies.

I am not saying that people should be excluded from being a Harry Potter fan because they haven't read the books.

    [...]

I am not supporting exclusion, in anyway. And frankly I don't get how you made that jump. I am extremely critical of the movies, yes. But I embrace inclusion in all forms and I am more than happy to squeal about being a Ravenclaw with a movie-only fan or go to the Harry Potter theme park with my mom who only experience Harry Potter through me. But my question then is if you have the basis of people enjoy the movies and the universe, why wouldn't you want to encourage people to read the books? Because they are a better experience than the movie alone, and having the in depth knowledge does make it that much more magical.

And that's where the conversation started. Converting movie-only people into full-fledged book reading, wand wielding, chocolate frog eating Potterheads. No one's talking exclusion of movie-only people. Criticism of the poorly planned movie franchise? Yes. Less love for those fans who weren't reading the books from day one? Never.

Ah, okay. The way you phrased your first reply made it sound like you were excluding the movie fans from being fans, so I was a bit confused. I understand now that that was not your intent, I'm sorry. I still don't like the way you belittle movie fans, but I don't think you're doing it intentionally, and as long as you're polite and inclusive of movie fans then you can believe whatever you want. Or maybe I'm just seeing things that aren't there, I don't know. Anyways, it was fun talking with you. Is there anything else you want to talk about?

Anyway, here's my picture from the last movie release (the photographer was so confused when he asked if I was Bellatrix, and I was like, "no, I'm Hermione polyjuiced as Bellatrix" -- I carried a "beaded bag," and alternated between The Tales and Bellatrix's knife, changing whether I was Hermione or Bellatrix depending on my mood):

Wow, you make a really great Bellatrix! And being Hermione polyjuiced as Bellatrix is awesome!

  11. Sorry. About 65% of what I say is sarcastic, quotes, poking fun or all of that. My apologies. Also, that video is one of my favourite HP fan videos. :D

Oh, yes, of course. I forgot we're on the internet, where you can say whatever you want, slap a joke/troll/sarcasm tag on it, and not be held accountable. My apologies. I feel like there would be no reason to say such a thing (people who only watched the movies aren't true fans) unless you truly believed it. But if that's your brand of "humor", then I guess I'll leave it at that.

I am going to have to politely, but strongly, disagree. Watching only the movies makes you a fan of the movies. It is an entirely different experience to read (or listen to!) the books and watch the movies. The movies did not in fact keep the plot and themes of the book coherent in movie format. They cut major plot points and character developments, which makes the plot incoherent to people who have not read the books. This is something that people who have read the books cannot wrap their heads around, because we do know the bigger, detailed story of the books and we fill in the blanks that people who only watch the movies cannot.

    [...]

None of this means that I don't enjoy the movies. I find it thrilling to see Hogwarts and the magical world come to life. I think Maggie Smith is a perfect McGonagall, and you can bet that when the new HP section of Universal opens I will spill blood to be there on opening day. But I appreciate the movies for what they are, not what I want to pretend they are. And just like you wouldn't claim lions are the exact same thing as tigers, I don't think people who only watch the movies have the same understanding of the world of Harry Potter like people who have read the books.

I believe this topic is about Harry Potter fans, no? Nowhere does it say "Book fans only," or anything like that. There is no need to exclude the Movie fans from the Harry Potter fandom; that is rude. Yes, books and movies are different. (gasp!!) Your post very thoroughly explores just how different they are, which is to be expected. You get more time with the characters in books. More development, more plot, etc etc. The movies aren't as deep and don't go into the full story of the book, but that is okay. You can say that the movie plot is incoherent to non-book fans all you want, but that is not true.

At it's heart, Harry Potter is a story about a boy who enters the world of magic, makes friends, learns spells, and defeats the dark lord. Yeehaw. That is perfectly coherent in the movies, along with everything that happens along the way. Maybe you don't get the know the reason behind every object and character and event, but that doesn't mean you don't understand what's happening. My mother never read the books, and she watched all the movies with us and she loved them. She wasn't confused or disoriented; she didn't constantly wonder about everything that wasn't mentioned, because she didn't know that there was something to mention in the first place! You said yourself that, as a book fan, we don't understand what it's like to see the movies with no book knowledge. We fill in the blanks and understand the intricacies of the plot and characters, we see all the things that aren't there, but the story is still coherent and enjoyable if you cannot see those things.

And, I would like to add that I NEVER said the books and the movies were the exact same. Only seeing the movies does not make someone less of a fan. We shouldn't exclude fans for not knowing everything about Harry Potter. That's a terrible idea. Being a fan is about enjoying something, the end. It's not about having encyclopedic knowledge, it's not about reading and watching and hearing and consuming everything that has every been made about that thing.

It. Is. About. Enjoying. That. Thing.

  12. I have to admit when my older sister first got into the books I hated them on principle, but I think around the time the third book came out my friends convinced me to read them and I've been hooked ever since!

Did anyone here go to the Barnes and Noble midnight release for the books? (or midnight parties for the books in general?) My friends and I did them from the fourth book onward, and when the last book came out I was so hooked I stayed up until three pm the next day in order to finish it so I could start rereading it. The drama troupe I participated in had a 48 hour no spoiler rule, but if you hadn't read it by then you were out of luck. :P

I went for almost all the books past the fourth as well. I remember for the last book I was visiting my grandparents (+cousins aunts and uncles) and we all went to the release together (it was at a small bookstore though, not B&N) and we all stayed up racing to see who could get furthest and spoil the others :P I'm a slow reader so I lost pretty badly! Oh, and I when I was younger I would dress up as harry for the release parties (under spoiler for big pic, also my resemblance to 12 year old harry may blow your mind):

My mom made that robe for me, she's the best! I still have it hanging in my closet. also I should mention I'm a girl b/c you probably would not guess that

    maggiepotter_zps5f38a461.jpg

Indeed there is. xD I find it hard to believe that some Harry Potter fans have only watched the movies. You are not a true HP fan until you read the books :P Just kidding! -attacked by angry filmies- Ahhh! My last wish is that you watch this video! -disappears under a huge pile of filmies-

I would just like to say that only watching the movies doesn't make anyone less of a fan, and doesn't mean that a person doesn't understand what's going on, or the plot. The movies did a very good job of capturing the plot and themes of the books and keeping them coherent in movie format (ie: cutting some beloved but nonessential characters and plotpoints). Of course the movies aren't perfect, but they're pretty damn good and if someone doesn't want to spend countless hours reading the books, then I won't begrudge them. Also I want to point out I'm not angry with you or anything, you're entitled to your opinion. I just think it's annoying when people belittle other fans, or create imaginary criteria for being a true fan. If someone likes harry potter, then they like harry potter. We're all just nerds who love magic and flying brooms. Oh and that video is awesome!! I'm surprised I haven't seen it before. It's always awesome to find new fanmade stuffs!!!

  13. Welcome to the forums! I'm sure you'll find that it's a great and friendly community. C: I know what you mean about getting too addicted. Once you start again you just get sucked in way too far!

  14. Or - have you recently acquired a pet that had a previous BD record? Because transferring one of my pets to a side, I managed to get the avatar (this was a while back, though) but I thought that was what made it possible.

Both my pets were made on my account. My bori was the pet I created when I made my account, and my lutari was made on the recent lutari day.

I would recommend reporting this to TNT as a glitch before you get frozen for something you didn't do intentionally. You can never be too safe..

I didn't report it, exactly, but I submitted a question to the NTimes and hopefully they'll answer it next issue! I'm hoping that they either changed the requirements, or all along the requirements were just having used the BD for a certain amount of time or something. But since so many people just got it today I feel like it was some sort of sudden change (glitch or intentional), and not something about the avatar all along. If that makes sense.

EDIT: Bah I was gonna make a new post so you all would get notified but I forgot that my post was the last one! TNT addressed the avatar in this week's editorial, and it was indeed a glitch.

    glitch2_zps675bb387.png

I just checked and I seem to still have the avatar, so I'm not sure if they mean that it won't happen again or if it will just take a while for them to remove the avatar from the collections of those who weren't supposed to get it. We'll see, I guess ^-^'''''

  15. Glitch or not, it was a pleasant surprise for me as well. ^^

Now watch them take it anyway just because.

I know, right? I'm going to bed soon and I swear it just won't be there when I wake up and I'm going to think it was all a dream. I'm going avatar-crazy @n@

  16. So I visited the battledome today (I visited it earlier today as well) and was greeted by this:

    glitch_zps16563395.png

This is my newest account and it's only 2 months old, so obviously I have no records from the old battledome. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a glitch? Did Neopets change the requirements for the avatar? I mean I'm happy to get a new avatar but I just think it's weird and I'd like to know if anyone knows what's going on.

Also, I double checked my userlookup and neoboard preferences; I definitely have the avatar now.

  17. The thing that concerns me about this becoming a more permanent feature is that codestones are going to stay sky high for prices :/ I was kinda bummed about needing to switch to the island school from the pirate academy to begin with due to sheer cost, and this new feature is going to keep it ridiculous.

Has anyone determined for sure what happens with the doppelganger boon? It seems like the others have been found out.

Edit: A couple people have been saying that it allows you to use a one time use item twice before it disappears. I don't have any of those to check. Maybe someone who chose it could?

I've tried it out, and I'm not sure. I've been trying it with my lesser healing scroll and bandage ability. I was able to use Bandage two turns during my first battle, so I thought it might have to do with one/limited use abilities. But I've fought ten battles since that first one and that hasn't happened again so I think it may have been a glitch -n-

update: I'm trying snowballs out now. I was able to use a tortured snowball (the one pictured in the boon) to work twice, and a poison one as well. I'm just using the snowballs I have in my SDB, so I don't have the biggest subject size or variety, but here's my current success rate.

Update 2: Talking with people on the BD board, and we've confirmed that snowballs are reusable with about 20-30% success rate. We're testing other one use items right now. The boon seems to not work on once per battle items.
