This happens quite often (it even happened with another book from this year's Advent Calendar, I think). New items aren't always activated right away, so we'll end up with books that can't be read, album items that can't be put in your stamp album, or toys that can't be played with. They usually fix it within a few days, so you'll probably be able to read this book to your pets soon.

Here it is

The ray is fired at my_friend_Cora... ... and she changes colour to Electric!! But... nothing happens. It makes a kind of 'zzrrrppptttt' sound before shutting down completely. The creepy Kookith shoos you away and appears quite angry, so you hightail it out of there before he shoots some miniature laser beam at you or something. They're gonna kinda coordinate for a while then!

I haven't decided if 7 minutes feels like forever or no time at all while I'm waiting. Also! Achievement for today: 1/18/20: Finally got a Fountain Faerie quest and was able to get the Buzzin avatar

I really haven't been paying attention (I entered Kokariia in BC this week, ends Jan. 3-so brutal!) so I haven't picked. Brutes seem good, ok @jellysundae and @AllTimeMarr , I will throw in with you! Just as a side note, I noticed that almost all the BC Pets have basic stats, like if I had to battle them-Kokarria would crush them *lol* But for their amazing art talents compared to my stick figure drawing of Kokariia-they crush me! Eh, I had to try it, YOLO !

Let us try and find out! There seems to be more chance this time, unless the majority share @Angeló's view. We shall see! *get all Brutish*

I'm not sure what age exactly you mean by 'older', but I'm pretty sure that a lot of older users (my mom, for instance) are tech savvy enough to use ad blockers, which are so omnipresent these days that some browsers actually include them by default. I'm not exactly sure how Neopets generates income from ads, but what I've been able to find is that it's most common for ads to only generate (a tiny bit of) money when they're clicked. I think @jellysundae is right, and that Neo's resources are pretty limited these days. (I'm also not sure what kind of effect NetDragon's purchase of JumpStart had on the site, but the pessimistic side of me can't help but think that a game that's been bought by several different companies over the years will probably feel the effects of that, and not in a good way.)

that's a really good point I haven't even thought about yet - with thousands of items on neo, this could cause an item to be forgotten about if it doesn't turn up in any relevant searches. bummer. they really should fix the wrong item names at least, weirdish descriptions I can live with. my personal favorite from this years calendar has to be the Lava Bubbles, they are exactly what I would have wanted but never expected to actually show up :) it fits perfectly for one of my final customs so I'll definitely use it.

Haha, well of course I don't actually know, but I'm assuming that the actual artist focus has been on the NC side of things and that's why the Advent Calendar's mainly re/upcycled items. But hey, doing things that way's very topical, at least! Tongue-in-cheek here, I don't suppose gifs have much of a carbon footprint. ?

I guess they settled their differences in the interim. Although this Ogrin seems to be super-obtuse, he's probably not realising that the Hissi's just saving him from the lava so it can eat him. xD *goes back further* Aha! So there's the Zombie, lol. Yeah I'm loving that they're continuing this saga. To me that definitely shows that they do care. It seems to me that they're still doing what they can with what limited resources they have. I believe if you watch all the previous Holiday Ogrin animations, todays makes a lot more sense.... but that requires going back and watching them all on the 28th day haha
