In some asian customs (I forgot which ones), if a family's son dies prematurely without ever being married first, the parents will look for a dead woman who has also never been married to arrange a postmortem wedding. There will a ceremony, wedding cake, the whole shebang at the bride and grooms relocated graves next to eachother. I usually figure out what I want for dinner at around 10 AM, and by the time I get home from school, I've already forgotten. So I have to start the whole process over again. I hadn't even thought about the funeral ritual. Yea, it would seem rather bizzare. We dress the body up in really nice clothes and put it in a fancy box, then we sing to it and talk about it and give it flowers, and then we bury it in the fancy box and nice clothes. Just about anywhere in the world, you'll still have major rituals like funerals and birthdays. And I know I'm not going to be able to celebrate my sweet sixteen cause my parents think birthday parties are a pointless waste of money. I just get $20 or so. livvy Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Well, if we all went somewhere else right now (it would be totally amazing because then I could meet my TDNF friends in real life! :) but aside from that...) we still wouldn't consider our native customs odd. We'd stop thinking the other customs were odd eventually, but we would still consider wasting a perfectly good set of clothes and a really fancy box on a dead person perfectly normal. Oh, my sweet 16 was... meh. Most people forgot it.
