Scattered Through Time

Hey, guys.

I have nothing whatsoever to do with this role play.

Although Morgan has asked me to deliver an important message to you all.

Morgan's internet has been acting extremely unreliable recently and she can't get it working properly.

Also, she is not being absorbed by Maplestory. Morgan needed to uninstall it for several reasons.

((She asked me to take over Yema. I'll do this a bit differently.))

Yema had opened a portal near the Raptor.

"Go through now!" she shouted.

She drew up the ground with a hidden power and it threw the raptor in. She followed soon after and the portal remained open for Floaro.

((Just an alternative to Loc's exit, this is more interesting.))

When Yema emerged from the portal, they were in a plain with no trees in sight. The ground was rock. She was lucky that it was night.

The dinosaur lay unconscience below her as she floated above him.

((It's night, read the posts.))

Yema placed her hand on the ground.

"This shouldn't be desert... this should be a grassy, tree spotted area." she said.

Over the hill, sounds of fighting could be heard. Metal clashing and men grunting.

Yema floated over the hill and saw it. The battlefield. Corpses covered the ground and in the middle of the aftermath of war stood two individuals in armor covered in ripped cloths. They kept swinging their blades at one another, but each swing was block by the other fighter.

Yema turned toward Floaro, "Can you heal the raptor?" ((Water has healing capabilities according to Avatar.))

Yema separated and created a clone.

One of her said, "I need to find out what's happening down the hill." Then floated toward the two men, trying to remain inconspicuous.

The other said, "I will see what I can do for the raptor." Then floated over to the wounded beast.

Floaro did not like it here, it was too dry, he felt weak, he took some of the raptors blood and splashed it on his face, he was so weak.

"This creature needs a name, the sound he made, it reminded me of an Echo. I know let's call him Bob!!"

Yema rolled her eyes. "Echo" she said.

She placed her hand on his leg and it lit up. Eerily and unearthly. Slowly, the blood began to flow back toward the wound and the skin slowly healed.

Over the hill, Yema soon realized where and when they were. They were in the middle ages, in the area where the space bombardment left its scar on the planet, turning the once lush forest into a parking lot. The two men fighting were knights fighting for glory and honor from their kingdoms.

Its clear why we are here. I have to be patient, I can only take one to save the future... the winner will come with me.

((The knights... if anyone knows someone who wants to play in the RP... tell them that one of these knights would be a perfect place to step in. One will die by the other's hand soon.))

((AA mentioned that he was going to put in a new character soon. This could be the perfect place.))

Dimly, Echo opened his eyes.

He tried to move, but found he couldn't. A pain greater than anything he had ever experienced jolted through him, making spots explode in front of his eyes and numbed his senses.

Frightened, his consciousness barely intact, Echo lashed out spasmodically with everything he had, blind instinct telling him that the only scenario possible was that he was surrounded by predators.

Something seemed to tear in his leg, adding to the fact that it was already 100% fractured.

A true spasm of pain racked him, and something else tore, or rather broke, this time in his neck.

As his mind faded, Echo did not realize that his body was fading away too.

((He dies. Just be patient for a bit.))

A being hangs in space.

It has no name, no shape or form. It is outside such things.

It does not truly watch, because it is outside sense.

But it knows the scene, it knows what is unfolding in the place where it was only seconds ago.

...or days? Months? Years?

It does not matter, because it is outside time, as well.

It is merely an observer, helpless to change the events, this made all the more agonizing by the fact that it wants to, by the only thing it is not outside: conscious thought.

And yet a voice calls to it.

Not exactly a voice, because in nothing there is no sound. Not exactly a call, because there is no language. It is something greater than language, or lesser perhaps.

But it carries a message, a message that can only be understood by the restricted human mind when put in this form.

It is not your time. You are needed.

It does not originate in the nothing; clearly it comes from something else.

The being, which does not exist, but hangs in the nothing, follows it...

Echo materialized again.

He had no memory of what had happened; it would have overwhelmed him if he had, because only a mind unrestricted by time and space could understand.

He saw two beings in front of him; he could tell they were fighting, and of a similar kind to what he had seen before.

Attack! Kill! his instincts screamed. But he found that these were but voices, and that they could be ignored.

He ignored them, and everything became clear.

Time slowed to a crawl. He had detached himself from that, too.

Now he could think.

((The death bit could be some very special spell of Floaro's, something he didn't even know was possible. Or it could be something else. If Greek mythology is true, I'm pretty sure this could be true too. But tell me if it can't be tolerated.

A side effect of the journey is that Echo is able to detach himself from everything and see things effectively from someone else's point of view. This will make getting through to him much easier.))

"Calm down Echo, I will heal you." Yema said calmly, knowing he couldn't understand it. But the words sort of sung from her mouth very very calmly.

The fight between the two men continued. It was almost never ending.

((When ever someone want to join, they need to become one of the knights and kill the other.))

Present day:

Rocks twisted and ground burned.

C was practicing the weapon. It was deadly.

His power levels were low now.

I had better get back now.

His body glimmered in the sun and the ground shown like glass. The weapon melted the dirt to glass. It shattered at C walked over it.

((Note, his weapon is very dangerous.))

((Yeah, I kinda got that idea. :P ))

Shade was finally feeling the effects of sleep deprivation and time lag. He tapped several spots on his tactical control system to indicate that command would fall to Char-Kin-Vine for 15 minutes, and settled down for a nap.

((The knights are a good idea, but I need to get a few ideas together first.))

Name: Mird

Gender: Male

Age: 29

Species: Human

Alignment: Heroes

Skill: Stealth, infiltration, assassination

Time period: Middle Ages

Character Description: A lean, hard looking man who always wears light, unpolished armour. The dull grey armour stops him from standing out, but many people have made the fatal assumption that it is not particularly strong. He openly carries a rapier, but there are also several throwing knives, daggers, and also a smallsword concealed within his armour.

Other info: Mird works as a hired assassin, and is exceptionally good at his job. While not officially a knight, Mird is generally considered one as he is often seen in the presence of a select few high-ranking lords and barons, who happen to be his most frequent customers.

This place stinks. Mird thought as he parried a dangerously strong slash from his opponent's side-sword. Such a waste of life over such a minor disagreement. Rather than risk having his rapier broken by the much thicker side-sword, Mird turned his opponent's blade away at an angle, then ducked low and thrust at the slight gap in the armour at his target's knee joint, rapidly withdrawing his sword afterwards. Well that's why I fight isn't it? The knight attempted to bring his heavy sword around and down on Mird's back, but in doing so he placed his weight on the leg Mird had injured. So that the lords and barons can settle their stupid little conflicts directly, instead of getting others involved. The knight staggered back with a howl of pain and tried to bring his sword into a position convenient for parrying. Well it was a bit too late for the people who were killed in this battle. Mird finished the fight with a powerful thrust that went straight through his target's neck armour. At least I managed to secure a contract in time to stop yet another pointless slaughter. No more people will die today at somebody else's whim. He strode away confidently, ignoring the knight's last strangled breaths behind him. I wish I could kill all the so called 'nobles' in this country, I really do, but as soon as one dies there's always some snobbish little heir to take his place.

((Um, I forgot to mention that Echo was fully healed apparently. Can that be included to?))

Echo's mind returned to reality as his eyes relayed the fact that the combat was finished.

He dove for the tiny bushes that seemed to populate whatever place this was, barely leaving a mark as he concealed himself, but noted frustratedly that his strange acquaintances had not done the same.

Shade woke exactly 15 minutes after he had gone to sleep. He did not request for a report of the events during his nap, but instead analysed the tactical display in front of him. They were in a time period the humans referred to as the 'Middle Ages', presumably the growing band of targets had come here to acquire another member.

The nap had allowed Shade's subconscious mind to piece together a few more observations. It appears that their time portals are being created by the short, ghostlike being that we targeted first. Amazing really that it has a capacity for such anomalies without a massive power source. It does seem to- ah...

Shade punched up a communications link to the hangar ordinance bays on the two destroyers. "Hangar ordinance speaking - we're a bit busy at the moment so if you could make it quick?"

"Acknowledged. Would it be possible to swap out some of the detonation chambers in a strike torpedo for a different type of explosive?" Shade asked quickly before Char-Kin-Vine decided to roast the Hangar ordinance officer for insubordination.

"Yes, of course, that's what the separate detonation chambers are for. We can load a specialised explosive, for example a high-radiation substance, to achieve a specific effect while still retaining most of the strike torpedo's firepower."

"Excellent. Remove the standard explosive from a chamber on two of Scraw's strike torpedoes. Change the missiles' designator ships so that the pilots know they are special. Replace the explosive with magnesium flares."

It was lucky Echo reflexively closed his eyes. Still, he almost jumped out of his reptilian skin when the missiles hit. They didn't explode like the other ones had - these shone like the sun, except the sun right in his face.

After an eternal last minute, his sight returned.

Which was a pity, really, judging by what he saw.

((I'm hoping for something like a squadron of elite knights to pop up, drawn by the flares. Or perhaps a dragon.))

Mird was quite a distance away when the torpedoes hit. He spun around, and immediately regretted it as the bright light temporarily blinded him. The concussion from the blasts reached him a few seconds later, and he immediately dived for cover, finding a spot where he was relatively sheltered and invisible to human eyes. Squinting through the lights still dancing over his vision, Mird spotted several figures near the point of the sudden explosions, obviously the target of the attack.

Looking still further, Mird could spot a group of five knights heading over to investigate. No doubt heavy infantry would follow. It was time to be far away from this place.

((How much exactly does bright light affect Yema?))

Yema was suffering, the Ultraviolet light from the flares was eating through her being, like plastic to the flame. Her clone couldn't take it and faded away. Being on the plain, there were no trees or any other adequate cover. She took her last option, and dove into a dead body.

Present day:

C walked into the lab, which was hidden in a cave near the cove.

Kait was testing something.

"What are you doing?" C asked, pulling a large plug from the wall and pushing it into an exposed area on his chest. This area is normally guarded by the chest piece of his armor that retracts at will.

"I was observing that energy being's ability to open up a gate to another time. The gate seems to consist entirely of ultraviolet light and static electricity. Its a superior simplicity, which allows time to distort and the fabric to pull apart temporarily."

"Do you think you can replicate that?" C queried.

"I don't want to."

"Oh?"

"There's a rocky plain in Europe right now, pulsating with static energy. They claim it is a natural phenomenon but I think that energy being is there in another time. Suffering. This may sound far fetched but I think even though her being is in another time, she is in every time somehow. She is an immortal, no beginning and no end. Now. I believe those aliens are attacking her. Each jump they make, the atmosphere charges with energy. She can control this. But the aliens could never learn how to master this without side effect no matter how advanced they may think they are."

"Why aren't you trying to master this?"

"Think of time like the fabric of an elegant dining room table. There are some holes in it, for decoration. That's what the energy being is, she belongs. But the aliens, and in a sense any sentient being trying this, are tearing this elegant cloth. Eventually it will fall apart. This is demonstrated now in Europe."

"They could destroy the universe?"

"Yes, but this is just a theory."

Shade watched the tactical display closely as the two fighters came in for another pass. There was no need to direct them - they were experts at this, and clearly enjoying themselves. But knowing his targets, they probably had another trick up their sleeve somewhere.

((Waiting for you guys to introduce yourselves to Mird. :P ))

((Well whenever this bombardment ends, introductions may begin.))

((Also, I am confused. Is Echo a Velociraptor of the nine-foot Jurassic Park variety or of the real world less-than three foot variety?))

The two fighters banked into an attack vector, loosing a finishing barrage of strike torpedoes at their targets. Then they peeled off and headed back towards the task force. There weren't many things on the planet at that time that could survive a well aimed barrage of strike torpedoes. That was, of course, assuming that the strike torpedoes hit. "Drop one recon probe to keep tabs on the situation below." Shade instructed, waiting patiently for the explosion flash to clear so he could assess the results of the bombardment.

Yema was trapped.

I can't do anything, but the heroes must live!

She wasn't a Necromancer, she couldn't animate the body she was hiding in.

A metallic beast originated from the sky and absorbed the impact of the torpedoes.

It was enormous.

It was a combination of lizard, serpent, and demon.

It was the fabled black dragon. Such a beast with scales thick as the strongest metal and stone.

It was drawn to the area by the massive flares and activity from the battle. Free food.

Eyes red as fire and a soul of the devil himself. Pure evil fabricated into flesh and bone.

The flames burned toward it and it geared itself for the massive blast of fire expelling from its lungs and esophagus. The beam of flames shot out like a spear, and blew the fighters to pieces.

It let out a blood curdling roar loud enough to be heard for miles and miles.

Yema took opportunity and cloned herself, one to talk to the knight and another to open a portal to get the others far away from the area.

Quick as lightning, they were gone.

Her clone had no choice and took the knight without his consent. They were gone, leaving the aliens to deal with the beast.

She used a new type of portal she developed from training to hopefully leave no trace.

From the wreckage of the two fighters, a pair of small pods emerged, their propulsion systems instantly activated when the pilots hit their eject triggers. The pods sped up towards the task force at a speed unmatched by any other atmospheric projectile, mechanical or organic, and landed safely in the docking bay of the Echronal Physig within seconds. The Che-jan cared very little about loss of life, but still, good warriors were not to be wasted.

Meanwhile, Shade was gazing thoughtfully at the massive black creature that was now feeding on the knights who had come to investigate the explosions. His memory automatically supplied details to supplement the sensor readouts. It was known by many names across many planets, but to the Che-jan it was the Mait Chofysal, or Flaming Sky Serpent. Its planet of origin was unknown, but it was a unique species that managed, by some specialized mechanism, to propel toughened, vacuum sealed eggs out into space, where the embryo usually survived until the egg ended up in a suitable place to hatch. It appeared that this was mainly a tactic for distributing their young and thus reducing territorial conflicts, since most of the eggs simply fell back to a different part of the same planet anyway, but on occasion one of the eggs would somehow make it to deep space, and even more rarely one or more surviving eggs would manage to land on another hospitable planet. Once the young hatched into a survivable environment, their ferocity, natural armament and exceptional cunning saw to the rest.

Less than a century before the time the Che-jan task force currently resided in, the Mait Chofysal had been a vicious plague, spreading rapidly between planets and terrorizing the local populations. It was unfortunate for them that Mait Chofysal hunting became an extremely popular sport with Che-jan warriors. If historical records are correct, then this creature must be one of the last of its kind. A pity that Char-Kin-Vine is now furious at it, but there is really no point in denying the gunners their target practice. Shade turned to the new, distinctly unusual readouts on the portal as the turrets on the corvettes began the process of reducing the dragon to ash.

Before the dragon was destroyed, it managed to launch an egg from its back. ((I had no better place for it to come out.))

The egg was shielded from view by the ash and went into orbit. Unnoticed for centuries.

1969:

A meteor crashed down over Roswell, New Mexico.

Emerging from the ashes was a serpent with wings. Before the humans had time to react, it took to the skies. It has been growing in hiding ever since and will only reveal itself when it has no other choice.

Info on dragons for the RP:

With each generation, each dragon develops the defense to the weakness which killed its parent. Therefore, this one will be immune to plasma, which is what killed its parent if I am to understand. Before, the dragon the aliens killed only had defense against bombs and blades, hence the thick skin. Oh, and its alien. It reproduces asexually, therefore having no gender.
