Stop using Hola VPN immediately

Recommended Posts

You know the old adage, too good to be true? Well, it's... true.

You are being used. In a bad way. It is also actively updating to prevent you from realizing something is going on.

I've never heard of Hola VPN.  Can you please tell me what Windows apps or Internets sites use it? Thanks!

If you've never heard of it, then you have nothing to worry about. It is a browser extension or something you have to actually download.

If you don't wish to read Shane's article: Hola Unblocker was selling your bandwidth while your computer was idle. If you have it - even if it isn't enabled in Chrome - uninstall it to be safe. What it was doing was allowing any person who uses the free version of Hola to view whatever website under you ip address (potentially) Additionally, the were selling your bandwidth as mentioned.

Yeah if you've never heard of it, then there's really nothing to worry about. A lot of people use(d) it to watch Netflix from different countries given you have different options depending on which country you're in. The best thing to do right now if you don't want your bandwidth basically being enslaved and sold is to remove it then just find a different way to have a VPN.

Right now it's still patching to prevent most people from noticing what's going on. The savvier computer users may have noticed something fishy going on, which is how it was found out in the first place. Just because it's patching doesn't mean it's changing what it's doing w/o your permission, simply blocking you from noticing. I'm sure people can find other, easier ways w/o the use of an extension like Hola.
