rowtiderow
Probably the best feeling I have on Neopets is when I am checking the SSW for pricing for something I won in KQ or the BD, and I find a super, super cheap things to buy!! For example, today I won two red codestones in the BD, and while I was pricing them, I found a codestone that sells for ~20,000 NPs for 7k! And then was checking the price for my Lime Swirly Negg that I won (off a silver key- yeah!) in KQ and found one for a single NP! AND they also had a Super Icy Negg for 1 NP too! But then I felt like I was TOTALLY ripping someone off. I shouldn't feel bad, right?? I mean, if I didn't buy them, someone else definitely would. I just feel guilty sometimes for making 10+k on something someone horribly priced. Should I?
Rune Valentine
No, it's a part of the Neo-life. Sometimes people don't check what something is worth, sometimes people just feel like selling things cheap ;) If you found it on the SSW, it's yours! Congrats :D
fullonparanoid
Nah, don't feel badly. Oddly enough, there are folks who sell off anything and everything in their shop for next to nothing. If it was something like a UB Paint Brush, then I might raise an eyebrow and NM the seller just to make sure it was intentional (and, actually, if I found a UB PB for 1np I'd probably contact TNT to make sure it was not a compromised account). Sometimes folks just price things weirdly because they don't really care. Though, I do admit that I sometimes feel bad if it is obvious that they missed a Zero in the price (2500 instead of 25,000)...in those cases I DO sometimes contact the seller just to make sure. Big picture...your conscious ought be clear! Cheers! :P (I just noticed your username: rowtiderow....Bama fan? /grin)
lakecat
I have bought very under priced items, but what I do next depends on the situation. Does it look like just one or two items are too low, or that they are deliberately being generous (sometimes a message is above the shop). Is it more than a few thousand (that is, more than a few quick games to earn the same money time wise and less time than both of us sending neomails back and forth to each other). If so I send them a message and explain how much they underpriced it. Usually I suggest we become friends so I can just donate it back. Whenever I do that, the person is usually very surprised and happy that someone was honest and cared enough to let them know. Remember that the vast majority of members aren't as rich as multi year players, so even 10,000 NP means more to them. A few times, a richer, more jaded player tells me I can keep it and thanks anyway. Let your conscience be your guide. :santa: (P.S.: Could the mistake be caused by a false estimated value from the item info pop up window? I've always wondered if some newer players based their prices from that and then lose a fortune. :shiftyeyes_anim: :questionmark: ) Azurablue
Azurablue
I suppose that feeling badly about a good purchase depends on your point of view. Like those before me have already said, there are some people who like to sell low and give a break to other Neopians who are less fortunate than themselves. Then again, there are people who simply don't know any better or who got bad advice and sold something really cheaply that couldn't afford to do so. When I was new to NeoPets, I had a lucky first spin on the Wheel of Excitement and got a silver paint brush. I had no idea what they were worth and saw that a shop's maximum selling price was 99,999. I figured that it couldn't possibly be that expensive, so I put it in my store for half of that (50,000 NP) and it was snapped up in a heartbeat. This person Neomailed me later that day and told me that I was crazy because they were selling for something like a million NP (at the time) at the TP. I was so new, I didn't even know what the TP was. He basically said, 'thanks for the PB, sucker, and don't play Neo until you know how'. Ever since then, I've tried my best to price things fairly and if I've gotten a ridiculously good deal, I've contacted the seller and offered to sell it back to them for what I bought the item for in case they made a mistake. (It happened once - he was selling a red codestone for 2,000 when it was worth 20,000. He slipped and missed a zero. He was very happy to take it back.) Where am I going with this? I guess that it's like lakecat (above me) said. It's a matter of personal conscience. If you think that the person made a mistake, you could try contacting them and seeing where to go from there. If you figure that they were just one of those very generous Neopians, then no worries. Maybe you could pay it forward and put something into your shop for a low price and pass on the good feelings to someone else. It's all up to you. :) lakecat
spencerkatty
No, I wouldn't feel bad about it. Sometimes people are just generous or uncaring when pricing their shops. Any pricing they do is their decision/fault and really shouldn't affect the buyer in any way. Buuuut, if you still feel bad after reading all these posts that say not to, you can always NM the person to find a way to give them more NP to compensate for the deal you got in their shop. rowtiderow
rowtiderow
Thanks, everyone! I do feel a good bit better about it, but in the future might NM the person. I had considered it at one time, but there were people buying everything in the shop so fast, there was nothing I could do. Hope y'all make sure you don't under price stuff in your shops!! I'm officially on the lookout :woot:
nightfall8705
I completely agree with Rune Valentine. One time I was able to buy 17 (count em') 17 Zed codestones from a shop for 1 np each! At the time, they were selling for over 34k a piece. Made a nice profit from it later, but at the time, it was what it was, so I didn't feel too bad. It happens sometimes, and if it's not intentional, it's a learning experience. I wouldn't sweat it.
Koralis
I've made a good deal of NP from SW snipes and since I'm not a RSer or play a lot of games, Stock Market, etc., that makes up a good percentage of my NP income. So I'm not one to neomail the person asking if it was mispriced or offering to sell it back; thus, I personally try not to feel bad about it. I have an expensive training habit and need to finance it somehow :P If the item was grossly mispriced so I bought it for less than 1K, I don't dwell on it because the user doesn't know who bought it so they have to chock it up to a silly mistake on their part and they'll learn. I've done the exact same thing when I was a newbie. If the item was priced over 1K though so that my username shows up in their sales history I get a little anxious that the seller will neomail me asking to buy it back and I'm such a push-over and will easily feel guilty about it that I probably would. Basically though, I don't think you should feel bad.
meatfalls
I wouldn't feel bad. There are times that I stock my shop with slightly-expensive things for all 10 nps or so, just 'cause. There are definitely shops out there that stock things for a neopoint only at all times just because they want to get rid of stuff. While this isn't a method I myself would adopt, it's one that some people use, so might as well take advantage of it as long as they're fine with it!
