Training advice please

Recommended Posts

Given how red codestones have plummeted in price since they have become available from winning in the battledome I have been wondering whether it would make more sense for me to train my main pet up to level 250 and then use the ninja school to bring the rest of the stats up to an appropriate level. She currently has the following stats:

Level: 120

Hit Points: 239
Strength: 201
Defence: 202
Movement: 77

I have no idea how long training at the ninja school takes but given that I can only play a bit in the evening most days I wouldn't be able to "constantly train" anyway.

Any thoughts/ suggestions?

Yeah, that'd probably be a good idea, considering starting off at the ninja school is, what... a codestone, and takes two hours? Most of the red codestones go for less than the more expensive normal codestones, anyway, which I really don't understand, considering they're both available as prizes from the battledome, but only normal ones can be won from keyquest, and all that, unless I'm mistaken.

Uhoh, time for me to stockpile reds before all the regular trainers figure this out!

You can indeed win reds from Tombola, KQ, etc.; they're just much rarer. I think there are just so many more people training with regulars, and it's only very recently that it became cheaper to train with reds. When I started with reds less than a year ago, the price was a bit more than 8 regulars, on average.

It takes 4 hours, and there is a fair chance of getting a bonus level. I made the choice to do this in January, but I was a little shy of level 200. I was training seven and then eight. Now, I can train anything for less than the price of a single Eo codestone.

I bought the cookies, and they certainly helped. I bought five Terror Trove scratchcards a day, and I trained at the eight codestone level trying to remember when I was supposed to train.

Personally, I have about 500 codestones horded, for when the prices goes back up.

Now with the new abilities, in particular Warrior's Rage, it would make sense to train to level 200 anyway (ah, but 300 is the question).

Training levels will become longer and longer (and you will think you don't do much progress).

And moreover, you'll need more codestones to train. Fortunately, you can get free codestones from various activities (which have already been mentioned) on Neopets.

For level increase, I can add another daily (much rarer but still worth trying) is fishing at the Ye Olde Fishing Vortex. There you can get an Irritable Genie-in-a-Bottle if you're lucky enough.

And @coltom, level 300 abilities deal with healing your pet, so you might want to reach that level soon enough to get some or all of your pet's HP back.

Aye, but at level 300 then Red Codestone requirements go up to two stones per training level. As I am going to train for Agility so I can use heavy robe of Th, I would rather not need two stones per level. I'm not sure if I am going to train defense, but I still have a long way just to train endurance. It is tempting to train to level 300 for the next Fae ability, but I need to get the HRT, 80 some hp and I could train 300 defense.

I'm predicting regular codestones are going to drop in price now that the war is over. Fewer people are going to concentrate on training their pet, I think, so the demand will decrease and supply will increase, causing a drop in price. However, if a lot of battlers do what you're doing and start training with red codestones, the demand for red codestones will go up and their supply will decrease, so their prices will increase. Since you're pretty far away from graduating at level 250, you have to decide whether you think the codestone prices will still be worth it once you graduate. Since you only play for a few hours at night, I'm assuming you'll gain one level a day, so it will take you 130 days to get to level 250, which is a little over 4 months. Do you think prices will still be low for red codestones then?

I remember his discussion came up before the war, Some went for it, I eventually did, but I was around level 236 at the time. So it made sense to jump to 250, while being at the 8 codestone level.

One thing to remember is that the MORE people who want to train in the red stone range, the HIGHER in price they will go as the supply shrinks.

Ah, I see Lamppost has posted while I was writing this. lol And saying the exact same thing I was trying to say! LOL I agree with her that the prices of the regular codestones should come down now that the war is over. That's usually the case.

Besides, the next time there's a war, won't be for some time I am pretty sure. This obelisk war, is the first of it's kind I've seen in YEARS. Usually the site plots that I've seen since the "old days" have had very little to no battling

So if you're in the regular codestone range, There really is no hurry.

If you want some quicker training methods while training at the regular codestone levels, here are some suggestions. Kitchen Quests, can give you a random 1point stat increase, an item or a handful of NP. Terror Trove and some other scratchcards can give you a level up, if you're lucky. Coltzan's Shrine CAN give stat increases, especially for lower statted pets.

NC methods: Training Fortune Cookies can cut your training time by 30%-75%. They cost 125 NC and last for 5 days. Faerie Quest Fortune Cookies, gives you 1 random faerie quest a day for 7 days. (7x24 hours). They cost 100 NC each and can give you ANY kind of random faerie quest.

If the prices of "normal" codestones are going down, don't forget that you can trade 8 of them (random selection) for a random red one at the Mystery Island Volcano. Then you have to compare the price required for getting the missing normal codestones and the average price of the red codestones to see if it's better to convert normal codestones into red ones or directly buying the red ones you need for your training (I remember buying Zed Codestones for 74k).

Since the Battledome was down for the new one to appear, I've been training my spoilt pet and I got:

100+ levels

150+ HP

150+ strength points

200+ defence points

(most of the points come from trainings, some from Faerie quests and armoured neggs)

@coltom: don't bother training agility, use sneggs (+2-3 HP and +2-3 agility points). This will force you to level up above 300 and hence aim for the level 300 ability (and you'll have more HP to heal too)

Well, that is exactly what I was wondering about. It is pretty obvious at the moment that red codestones are cheaper but a lot can change by the time I would reach a level that could use them, hence me asking what others thought of this.

As a casual gamer I am training my pet as and when I remember to actually start a course so it would probably take me even longer than 4 month to reach the level as there are also often days where real life gets in the way of saying hi to my neopets. I haven't been training during the war as I didn't think the high codestone prices were worth it but am now looking at what to do next. (was actually surprised that I managed to "do my part" for all waves in the war even though the leaders included a fair number of losses)

I think I'll keep with the regular codestones for now (as and when I have the ones I need from mainly the battledome) and buying the odd ones and then probably stepping it up a bit in a month or so when prizes have stabilised post war.
