I haven't been here in a while due to the hacker scare. I've noticed more members of TDN join Jellyneo due to that purpose (not just HAMS this time). Anywho, it's great to back at The Daily Neopets after a few days of not being here. :yes: I realise there's not too much point in me explaining this again, but I'm going to anyway, just for the sake of clarity. xD The datacentre hosting TDN and many other major websites was compromised by a professional, highly skilled and probably highly paid black hat hacker, who had essentially no interest in Neopets or Neopets-related websites - the hacker's goal was simply to gain access to numerous websites with lots of visitors and use them to distribute malware (a goal which the hacker achieved rather spectacularly). Considering the hacker's skill level, there's virtually nothing we could have done to prevent this attack (the blame falls partly on our web host for the way they handled our server passwords, but that's more of an oversight rather than a clear vulnerability - it probably would only have slowed down the attack). It's unlikely that any website would have fared better than TDN when faced with the same attack. TDN is an extremely secure site, but a determined and sufficiently skilled hacker could easily bypass all our work and find another way in which we can't control directly. That said, our datacentre has probably learned its lesson, and their systems should be much tougher to breach from now on. Once again, we're talking real, experienced, highly skilled hackers here; not the idiots you see going after Neopets accounts. They make an (illegal) living out of doing this stuff. Not people to be trifled with. Quote

I'm no good at games, and I've been way too busy with classes to keep up with gaming :( Maybe I'll go back on the last day and at least get the Abi score for everything :P But idk if I'll have the time And yeah, the hacker scare freaked me out too. They have professional hackers? :O Although yeah...TDN does get a ton of traffic. It's easier to hatch my Dragon Cave eggs here than it is anywhere else, even the hatch sites lol Quote

It's not looking likely though. xD They have professional hackers? Hackers are highly skilled, passionate programmers. That's the basic definition of what a hacker is. :) Some of them choose to walk on the shady side of the law, but many others are hard working, thoroughly awesome people. Sadly the term 'hacker' has seen a lot of misuse lately... :( Quote

(I have 2 hours from when I get to work until I have to do anything other than answer emails.) Unless of course, it's a game that annoys me, or takes practice. I had to do Chia Bomber at home because it was super-crazy-hyper speed on my work computer and I couldn't keep up. But I had a really easy time at home. Quote
